[Shinji tenses at first. Hugs are not something he's used to. He leans into it and returns the hug though. It's nice. His mind wonders as they hug and he wonders if it would have ever felt this good to be hugged by his father or his mother. He'll never know now but he can't help but wonder.]

Ah, I'm not so sure about that. I trust my nakama, but they shouldn't have to deal with me at all. I would never want to be a burden on them, but I suppose I am finding that I can't protect them even from myself by avoiding them either. So I am not sure what to do about that.

What he wanted to learn of the man wasn't anything specific, just what he wanted to learn from anyone. To take things as it came. And this was another of those occasions wherein Kagerou was frustrated by something Ace couldn't completely see, couldn't completely connect. Story of their entire interactions right there. So it was something important to Kagerou at least, that much Ace could tell.]
