It would probably be surprisingly easy to explain, given that Wolvie himself was a different version part of the X-Babies that Mojo had meant to replace the original X-Men, but that all got confusing and complicated. Needless to say, he wasn't all that surprised when Kurt said he looked like someone he knew.

"Kurt, huh? The fuzzy blue elf guy! Yer from Excalibur, right? Do you know Kitty?" Although come to think of it, wasn't that Nightcrawler older too? Eh, whatever. This one smells kind of different too, now that he thought about it.

"Me- I'm Wolverine, but everyone calls me Wolvie." He shrugged. He didn't seem to be inclined to get off of Kurt at the moment either.
