And let me guess. Neither of them are around.
[ Because nobody you need is ever here, that's what he's figured out already. ]
What are you doing here, anyways?
[ While he certainly could mean 'here' in a more broad sense (what are any of them doing here, really), he turns in a small circle and gestures with one arm to his origami creations. It's probably clear he means to ask what Baymax was doing watching him. He hadn't exactly been intending to perform. He'd thought the central plaza was empty at the time. ]

[He notably doesn't mention looking for Tadashi.]
You seemed to be experiencing some distress. I would like to help. What is it that you are trying to do?
no subject
[ His bitter expression drops slightly as he's caught off-guard by the question. Distress is one word for it, sure.
He casts a glance to his shamisen before looking back to his motionless oragami figures, and his gaze hardens again. ]
...And it isn't anything you can help with.

[Baymax bends down and picks up the nearest oragami figure, one of some sort of bird. The motion is surprisingly careful and delicate for something so big and pudgy, as he takes great care not to damage the figure as he examines it.]
Did you create these oragami figures?
no subject
He watches carefully at first when Baymax goes to pick the bird up, but relaxes once he's got a good grip on it. It wasn't a huge deal, anyways, they were easy to recreate. ]
Yes, I did.
[ He reaches behind him, taking a couple pieces of paper from the pack slung across his back and sitting down cross-legged on the ground. It doesn't take him long to produce another paper animal-- this one a cat of some sort, and when he stands back up he offers it to Baymax. ]
I used to perform shows with them, in a village near the place I grew up. That's what I was trying to do here. [ He lightly nudges one of the origami birds with his foot, and it topples over. ] ...It didn't work.
no subject
In what way does it not work? You seem to be quite capable at both creating oragami figures and playing music, but I do not understand how the two acts could be connected as part of a performance.
[Since you kind of need two hands for both of them, as far as Baymax knows.]

[ He lightly strums the strings again just to prove his point. ]
I don't know what happened.

I do not know how music could make paper figures move.
But I will scan you now. It is possible that whatever force brought us here caused some undetected injury or biochemical change that is disrupting your abilities.
[And BRB scanning.]

[ Well. He more or less knows the general source of the magic, just not how it works specifically on paper. It wasn't that big of a deal, anyways.
He looks pensive for a bit over the suggestion. He guesses it's not out of the question, but he doesn't know how Baymax plans on fixing it if it's undetected... ]
What do you mean, scan me?
