I'm sorry.
[ At least he hadn't mentioned Jamie had been in the middle of a battle when last seen. ]

she bit her lip to stay the tears because they so very, very much wanted to fall. ) It's okay, Doctor. ( a small hiccough choked her on her words. ) C- Certainly nothing to be done for it, n- now is there?
no subject
[ He reached into his pocket for a handkerchief and presented it to her. ]
Here, dry your eyes.
[ He said nothing for a while, just stood there being as supportive as he could be while she worked some of these emotions out. ]
Now, why don't you tell me how you came to be here?
no subject
AGAINin front of the doctor. surely he was quite used to it by now but it always seemed as though she were either terrified or sobbing when he was near.victoria did appreciate the support though. it was rather sweet of him which, while her doctor was quite nice to her, felt very different at the same time. she sniffled gently and clenched the kerchief in her palms. a frown touched her features anew. ) I don't really know, I'm afraid. I recall being at home and then... and then I heard someone asking me to wake up. I must have fallen asleep you see. And- And well now I've turned up here. I thought for a moment it might be your ship again!
( which made his appearance all the more curious, really... )
no subject
[ That she wouldn't have been called? Victoria deserve the normal family life she wanted not this crazy one. ]
I'm about to tell you something that will be difficult to hear but I need you to be strong. You won't be alone. I'llhelp you through this, alright?
[ That other stuff was tough, but wait for it... it gets better!]
If Nautilus has called you here then I'm afraid you are trapped here in this city. Just for a time. It needn't be a long stay. If you can get the gates to work for you then returning home should be very easy but it does require a lot of willpower.
no subject
she grimaced as he spoke because even with the promise of helping her: this situation felt very negative. and then he broke the news that she was trapped and she felt as though she might cry anew. to avoid it, she bit onto her lip rather hard. this wasn't fair — she had already faced enough trials and loss in her short life. wasn't that enough? )
Wh- What do you mean? I can still get back to the Harris'? ( a glimmer of hope! perhaps all wasn't quite as lost as she thought. ) Willpower? I have an abundance of that when it comes to the Harris', there isn't anywhere else I'd rather be, really! Isn't that enough?
no subject
[ Hey, there was always hope! ]
There are four gates locate around the city. All we have to do to discover if you can return home is get you to one of them.
[ He looked about trying to decide which one was the closest. ]
I think the Northern Gate is where we should go but, now this it very important, there are certain dangers in that area. If you should see an angel statue you mustn't touch it. Make certain you stare at it and don't blink. It's absolutely essential that you don't blink.

about jamieabout being stuck. ) I'd whatever I possibly could if it meant I could return to Mister and Missus Harris!( again, she fell silent, because listening to the doctor tended to be what saved her outright from the messes she got herself into. that and a certain scot running to her shrieking aid. angels? that felt... ominous. ) Why mustn't I blink around a statue though? It's just a statue, right?
no subject
[ With an almost fatherly smile he gave the shoulder he had been holding this entire time a little approving squeeze. She could get those gates to work! She had to be able to.]
These creatures are most definitely not just statues. If one of them touches you they could send you forwards in time, making you an old women, or back in time, turning you back into a...
[ Child, well she was one already. ]
... a baby.
no subject
she couldn't help but to give him a most bizarre look as reaction to his reasoning for her not to look at the angels. or rather not to blink. ) A- A baby! ( or an elderly woman? but then her life would have went by so quickly, wouldn't it? ) H- How do they do something like that! Are... Are they related to Time Lords?
no subject
[ However tempting it might be given everything she had just learned. ]
They are an entirely separate species that sustains itself by feeding on the time energy of it's victims, those it sends forwards or backwards in time.

unwantedcousin. ) I apologize... that- that isn't what I meant to imply at all.( she paused. when he explained them in that capacity there was clearly a difference and her guilt only grew. ) That sounds horrible.
no subject
No, I understand. There is no need for apologies. You have never seen one before.
[ He took a step indicated the direction they needed to go in. ]
And if I have my way you won't see one now.
no subject
still, her guilt was there and she felt just awful for what she'd implied without meaning to. the doctor seemed to shake it off though. at least he wasn't quite as offended as she might have thought. that was a relief. )
Lead the way then, Doctor. ( just like old times. she had missed them, of course, but not enough to want them back. how funny a thing time could be. )
no subject
Lead the way he did, taking the streets past the Northern Welcome House. He currently lived there and having passed by this area so often he thought this the safest route to the gate. Rarely did he ever see any angels here. But they would have to pass through an area he was largely unfamiliar with and those angels were wicked fast when not frozen in place by the unblinking eye of a person. ]
Doing all right? I know it's a bit colder up here than in the rest of the city.
no subject
victoria headed along with him, naturally. she looked around the area as they ventured along though soon stopped that just in case a statue might be around. she didn't want to alert one! just in case. she did her best to keep up with him on her short legs and smiled when he asked she whether she was alright or not. ) Sorted for now, Doctor! So long as nothing frightening pops up. I think I can manage cold over running into something terrible.
no subject
[ Of course he took things a good deal more cautiously in this section of town, glancing around corners and making certain to check behind them just in case they were being followed. But all was well and the large gate rose up in front of them, her 'ruby slippers'. Now all she needed to do was wish herself home.
Turning back to Victoria he took both her shoulders in his hands. ]
Now you know what you must do right? Focus all your thoughts on where you want to go and try to will the gate to send you there.
no subject
That sounds rather easy. ( she was either over or underestimating her willpower. very likely the former. ) Do you think it will really work? ( she was hesitant but it was well worth the shot. closing her eyes, she tried to focus all her thoughts on the harris' home. it was where she wanted to go after all. but... was she there yet? ) Am- Am I home yet? ( she didn't want to open her eyes but it was clear that her willpower wasn't quite up to snuff for this place just yet. )
no subject
Not quite yet, no. I have been told that if you can't get the gate to work for you then here must be something about this place that has drawn you in. Some small piece of you wants to be here. Can you think what that might be?
no subject
no subject
If you don't know then I'm afraid you are in the same situation I am in. You will be unable to leave here until you can discover what is holding you.
no subject
I suppose I- that I'm quite stuck then. ( her voice cracked just slightly but the tears that threatened to fall remained unshed. )
no subject
[ Quite stuck indeed, welcome to the club.
He waffled a bit as he saw Victoria attempting such a brave face, not because he didn't want to make the offer he was about to make but because he was worried what she would think of it. ]
You... are of course welcome to stay with me at the Northern Welcome house until a way can be found to sort out this mess.
no subject
when he offered her a place to stay she admittedly felt some rather mixed feelings. having gone with him in the first place some time ago was the major cause for problems in her life. but the doctor had always kept her safe. between him and jamie she was always well looked after. she pressed her lips together in a thin line as she mentally deliberated. her options were limited. and finally she smiled albeit weakly. )
I can't imagine anyone else being better suited as someone for me to live with, for now.
