[ Instant regret. That frown just didn't belong there at all. He was trying to cheer her up or... at least give her something to hope for and instead he had made her frown. ] No, I understand. There is no need for apologies. You have never seen one before. [ He took a step indicated the direction they needed to go in. ] And if I have my way you won't see one now.

I'd rather like not to see one at all. ( they didn't sound very pleasant and she wasn't sure that she wanted to accidentally bump into one. suppose terror took over and she just shut her eyes completely? what would happen then? she'd cease to be whom she was at this very moment! that was a frightening thought for sure.

still, her guilt was there and she felt just awful for what she'd implied without meaning to. the doctor seemed to shake it off though. at least he wasn't quite as offended as she might have thought. that was a relief. )

Lead the way then, Doctor. ( just like old times. she had missed them, of course, but not enough to want them back. how funny a thing time could be. )

[ He couldn't be offended with her! All she had to do was look at him with those big eyes and see there was nothing but kindness and youth in them. Definitely qualities to be protected. Lead the way he did, taking the streets past the Northern Welcome House. He currently lived there and having passed by this area so often he thought this the safest route to the gate. Rarely did he ever see any angels here. But they would have to pass through an area he was largely unfamiliar with and those angels were wicked fast when not frozen in place by the unblinking eye of a person. ] Doing all right? I know it's a bit colder up here than in the rest of the city.

( ever the sweet doctor! she definitely didn't want to upset him. he had swiftly become a father figure to her even though she had, honestly, looked for a rather fast exit after she'd realized things were going to be rather hairy whilst traveling with him. it wasn't that the love for her friends wasn't there — she just longed to have something normal in her life. the harris family provided that.

victoria headed along with him, naturally. she looked around the area as they ventured along though soon stopped that just in case a statue might be around. she didn't want to alert one! just in case. she did her best to keep up with him on her short legs and smiled when he asked she whether she was alright or not. ) Sorted for now, Doctor! So long as nothing frightening pops up. I think I can manage cold over running into something terrible.

Good, good. It's not too much further now. [ Of course he took things a good deal more cautiously in this section of town, glancing around corners and making certain to check behind them just in case they were being followed. But all was well and the large gate rose up in front of them, her 'ruby slippers'. Now all she needed to do was wish herself home. Turning back to Victoria he took both her shoulders in his hands. ] Now you know what you must do right? Focus all your thoughts on where you want to go and try to will the gate to send you there.

( that was good news. she wasn't tired by any means but it was nice that they might be getting there soon. she did her best to remain stealthy like the doctor himself. victoria waited for a signal or simply moved when he did as she thought that might be the best time to do so. she approached with him and watched as the gate rose before them. as he set his hands onto her shoulders, victoria felt herself frown. was it really so simple? it rarely was. )

That sounds rather easy. ( she was either over or underestimating her willpower. very likely the former. ) Do you think it will really work? ( she was hesitant but it was well worth the shot. closing her eyes, she tried to focus all her thoughts on the harris' home. it was where she wanted to go after all. but... was she there yet? ) Am- Am I home yet? ( she didn't want to open her eyes but it was clear that her willpower wasn't quite up to snuff for this place just yet. )

[ With a frown the Doctor took a step back and rubbed at an eyebrow. He was trapped here, unable to get the gates to focus for him, but what could Victoria have that would be holding her back? ] Not quite yet, no. I have been told that if you can't get the gate to work for you then here must be something about this place that has drawn you in. Some small piece of you wants to be here. Can you think what that might be?

Something that wants me to be here? ( she didn't want to be here at all. she wanted to be home, going to school and feeling normal. not trapped in this place. or did she? maybe seeing him again — even with a new face — was giving her a subconscious desire to stay with him. perhaps it was the hope that if the doctor were present then a certain scot might be as well. a subconscious fear that this might be the universe's method of telling her that she wasn't meant to have normalcy? she frowned. ) But I don't know... I want to go home. I... ( don't want to be here, do i? )

If you don't know then I'm afraid you are in the same situation I am in. You will be unable to leave here until you can discover what is holding you.

So I have to find a truth about myself that I don't even know exists? And face to get out of here. ( talk about a terrible situation. she had no remote possible idea what it might be. and if the doctor was stuck here himself then what hope could there possibly be for herself? )

I suppose I- that I'm quite stuck then. ( her voice cracked just slightly but the tears that threatened to fall remained unshed. )

It would appear so. [ Quite stuck indeed, welcome to the club. He waffled a bit as he saw Victoria attempting such a brave face, not because he didn't want to make the offer he was about to make but because he was worried what she would think of it. ] You... are of course welcome to stay with me at the Northern Welcome house until a way can be found to sort out this mess.

How am I supposed to do something like that if even you're stuck in this place, Doctor? I'm- I'm not nearly as strong as you are! ( mentally, physically... emotionally.

when he offered her a place to stay she admittedly felt some rather mixed feelings. having gone with him in the first place some time ago was the major cause for problems in her life. but the doctor had always kept her safe. between him and jamie she was always well looked after. she pressed her lips together in a thin line as she mentally deliberated. her options were limited. and finally she smiled albeit weakly. )

I can't imagine anyone else being better suited as someone for me to live with, for now.
