He may not like hugs but he wasn't going to let a young lady fall on her face. So he stepped forward quickly to catch her rather than leave it to fate, watching her for a moment after to be sure she's steady on her feet.

"I should certainly hope I didn't. I think you might need that." Newt says lightly, trying to smile as warmly as he might for his creatures. They were still easier to be around than people but he really had no choice now.

"I do apologize though. I didn't mean to startle. I just hoped I might learn a bit more from someone who has been here longer than me." Which wasn't really a hard thing to do. Most anyone could say they'd been here longer.
