[At first, all Owen does is stare into the screen. The next breath he takes in is slow, and his eyes close tight. Exhale.]

I'm dead, aren't I? [He looks down at his chest.] Weird. I always thought there'd be some sign of how it happened. Or at least a Jacob Marley chain.

[He looks back to the screen again, and actually manages a slight smirk.] Let me guess, little fox angel... I have to do good deeds, a bell rings then I get my wings, am I right?

[Tails just... looks very confused for a moment, before he shakes his head.]

Nuh uh! This isn't the afterlife... or at least, I don't think it is, although I think someone once said that dead people CAN come here. But I'm pretty much alive an' well back in my world!

You're in Nautilus, which is a city of change! An' as for why you're here, an' what you gotta do... well, my friend Wheeljack once told me that you gotta figure that one out on your own.

[Owen crosses his fingers in different directions, mumbling to himself what Tails just told him.] Okay, so... it's probably best not to think too hard about it. Important thing is, I can't use my Gifts until I master this... Bending, you called it? Great. Work.

[When Tails says the word change, Owen can't fight off the eye roll. But he's quickly able to regain his composure. After all, it sounds like the fox is just a kid, and was going out of his way to help him out. He shouldn't throw cynicism right back at him.] It... sounds like some of the people I know back home. I guess I'm just confused as to why me. I'm just a-- a humble re-distributor of goods. Seems like there would be better choices in my world.

Bending's not so bad. Once you get the hang of it, it can really come in handy! Watch!

[And to demonstrate, Tails will hold up his palm. Within a few seconds of concentration, an orange appears to pop into existence right there in his hand.]

It CAN get a li'l tricky to pick up, but once you have it an' you start really working at it, you can literally do whatever you can imagine!

An' don't worry, I'm still trying to figure out the reason why I'M here... although I MIGHT be on the way to figuring it out.

Wow, that's... something. [He actually doesn't sound thrilled with the whole concept, actually.] And people can eventually make anything? What if your whole job back home was based around people wanting things?

[His head quirks to one side, one ear flicking back.] Well, I guess I should ask... is what you're doing here anything like what you're doing back home? Or is that part of the change that happens here?

Then I guess... you could always use bending to bend up things for people who don't have the hang of it, yet! An' not everyone in the city's got the hang of bending.

Um... kinda. What I did back home was help my best friend Sonic help people an' save the world! There are a couple'a dangerous people who get up to no good once in a while, so I guess it's not all THAT different...

Although bending an' ascension are kinda new to me.

I suppose so. [He still doesn't sound terribly convinced.]

Saving the world? You make it sound like you've done it a few times. Heh, that'll teach me to be proud of finishing the crossword and sudoku in the paper every Sunday. Does everyone get involved when someone starts causing trouble? Or do some people still prefer to stick to the sidelines?

Ascension? You know, it's starting to sound like this place needs an instruction manual. Or at least a For Dummies book.

You could probably find other ways to help people, too! There's a lot you can do in Nautilus, after all.

W-well... [He smiles bashfully.] I jus' HELP Sonic, is all, I mean it's not like I'm doing it all on my own or anything. An' usually if someone makes trouble... Some people DO wanna sit it out if they don't know how to fight or if they don't wanna get involved, but most of everyone teams up to stop troublemakers!

Yeah, see, this place has a rank system. Right now 'cause you jus' arrived, you're a Wakened, like me! But with some work on Bending and a little change, you can ascend to Angelii! An' from there, you can become an Ashura, an' from there, a Deva! You can also become an Aeon, too, but that's kind of a whole different level.

Your Tails is awesome... I think I may have to app in, now. =ppp

Oh, so you just help save the world, is it? [Wow, he's actually smiling a pretty genuine smile. Congrats!] That's still a lot more impressive than what I do back home. I think there's a lot more call for people who help save the world that a th--[He catches himself pretty quick.] a thinking man's illusionist.

I can probably guess this part, though... greater power, greater responsibility with each level? I honestly think I'd just stay on the bottom tier. I never was crazy about having people depend on me. Lowered expectations are easier to meet, am I right?

[Tails' just laughs a little.] Aw, well, everyone's got a job to do, right? I'm sure you're plenty helpful wherever you come from!

Well, if you DO get picked to ascend, I think you CAN turn it down so there's no pressure or anything. But I recently decided I wanna try an' ascend to Angelii!

I think I'm gonna have to. =D

Well, it's a good way to pass the time! The only problem is, with the Bending you have here, I doubt there's much call for magic tricks.

Y'know, something tells me there's a really good chance you could make it with that attitude, too. [He grins and shakes his head.] As long as you have your dreams and goals, you're pretty much unstoppable. That's what the lady who raised me used to always say, anyway.

You'd be surprised! Some people can do special kinds of Bending that others aren't so quick to get! I mean, I can Bend stuff up, but I can't really do any magic tricks or anything all THAT special.

...Thanks! I'm hearin' it from a lot of people, but I guess I'm still jus' a little nervous.

[He taps a finger against his chin.] I suppose it's possible, if I picked it up pretty well, I could come up with some new tricks. I mean, since I wouldn't be able to use the old ones since my powers are no good here. [Sure, he could probably still use the same sleight of hand and what not, but he's not supposed to admit that's how he does it. And his powers DO help with the act, too.]

Any time you do something new, it's okay to be nervous. If you're no at least a little bit, you'd probably be overconfident and make mistakes. But you don't have to be scared of it, either.

Yeah, that's the way to look at it! You can always learn new stuff along with the old! I'm tryin' to learn how to shapeshift at some point down the line, myself.
