[He rests his paw back on the ground and nods, lowering his gaze.]

I was trying to find my mate and hatchling before I came here.

Oh man...

[Rex rubs the side of his neck, glancing aside, not sure what more to say about that at first. He wants to be optimistic, but he's got no idea how bad the immediate situation might be. His information is limited.]

If it's any help, while you're here it's like time doesn't pass in your home world. So if you go back, you'll return to the exact moment and place you left.

Time stops?

[The dragon shakes his head, stomping his front paws anxiously.]

No, it doesn't matter if time has stopped back home! They've been gone for years. For all I know my mate was taken for breeding purposes and my hatchling...

[He snorts, cold air escaping his nostrils.]

I have to go back.

[deusrexmachina]

[Breeding purposes? Probably bearing young only to have them taken and killed for their stones later? Oh EWW.]

Well, it might be difficult for you to get back through the gate right away. Some people have trouble with that, but you can try...

[Rarely does Rex encourage leaving immediately, but it's clear this guy has a certain set of priorities. And they're priorities Rex absolutely can't blame him for having.]

[He moves past the dragon, walking toward the still open gate and stopping alongside of it. One hand lifts to hover just past the white swirling haze before he looks back to the dragon.]

Step back through and think about home. That should give you enough direction to make it back. Just one thing you have to know, though...

Whatever your destiny is on the other side of the gate is the one you have to follow. Your path is set and your body will follow that no matter what, even if your Wakened mind is in it and wanting it to do or say something else.

My... destiny?

[Archer draws back a little as he peers up at the gate. What was his destiny now? He's been at this wild goose chase for years, and yet, he has had no leads on finding his mate or hatchling.]

I... don't know what my destiny is. It might not be the way I want it to be.

[The dragon lowers his head to the ground, lying down on his stomach, paws resting over his head, clearly frustrated as he closes his eyes tightly.]

I've been at this for years. No leads, not anything... and now I've been brought here. [He opens his eyes to look up at the young man.]

How long have you been here?

[Rex watches as the dragon lays down, then moves away from the gate. The heavy doors swing shut at that point.]

Sometimes it isn't... People go home and find out things didn't turn out the way they wanted. I've been home to visit like seven or eight times, and things the way they are right now? Not so good.

[Deciding it might be safe to get close at this point, Rex walks over and sits down alongside the dragon's head. In so many ways, a lot of what this newly Wakened has been through and is going through is hitting close to home with the EVO.]

I've been here more than three years, now, and I feel you on trying to search for people and having no leads. I had amnesia for years and was separated from my family at home. Didn't know what happened to them and for a while I didn't even know where to start looking. Finding answers... They weren't always the ones I wanted to find, either.

[Archer listens carefully before her rests his paws under his chin, looking back at the gate.]

I know I should go back but what if I don't find them? Or if I do find them and I get brought back here? What if I go back and find that they're actually...

[He purses his lips and closes his eyes tightly one more, wings pressed tightly against his back. He refused to think that.]



What should I do?

[Rex looks to the gate briefly as he speaks...]

You get to control when you get brought back here again, but on the rest of all that...

[His gaze shifts back to the dragon.]

It's not really my place to tell you what you should do, though at least here you've got actual choices you can make on your own, unlike back in your world.

[Rex sighs a little.]

After all the time I spent looking for my family, only my older brother ever came back to me. I found out from him that our parents were dead. They'd died for something they believed really strongly in...

Maybe it was easier for me because I couldn't even remember what my parents were like, but I always kept moving forward. Even when people I love go away here, it's always the same... Go forward.

[Archer regards him for a moment with his large green eyes before he nods a little.]

I see what you mean. It's just... hard. Ignorance is bliss, but it's terrible at the same time. But I can tell you've been through a lot, here in this city of change.
