Maes Hughes | Fullmetal Alchemist
Then he remembered the phone booth and realized that no, he had been dead.
But that didn't explain why he was here, in this strange city with even stranger decor. Because he had no grand illusions of what his afterlife would be like if there was one and this certainly wasn't it.]

Usually one would envision life after death as peaceful. Serene. Fluffy.
...not punctuated by a terribly familiar voice emitting a curse and a shout- and a flash of red and gold as something was coming flying in your direction from 1 o'clock.]
no subject
Oh, wait. You haven't. Dammit.
It's the voice that gets him to turn first, before he stares at the something coming towards him. It doesn't take him very long to put the pieces together.
And then he's worried, because he's pretty sure you aren't supposed to be dead. Like him.]
Edward?

The young alchemist executes a flip, skidding once his feet hit the ground, finally coming to a halt just in front of Hughes. He blinks upon hearing his name, glancing over, and it's obvious by the look on his face that the man is a surprise to see. He opens his mouth as though to speak-]

Of course, while he knows he got the hit in, it takes him a moment to realize Ed was a little distracted. Glowing eyes 'blink' as he stays in his fighting stance, glancing in the same direction.
Those eyes blink rapidly several times over, widening as the tinny gasp escapes him.]

He ignores the idea that these two know what happened, considering their reactions]
Yo. Edward. Alphonse.
[After a moment, he runs his raised hand through his hair, sending his glasses askew.]
Okay, I know you two weren't even in Central. So, where the heck is this?
no subject
He looks at Hughes, who apparently isn't a hallucination given that Alphonse is seeing him too. It takes a moment for him to find his voice.]
...y...yeah. This is...pretty far from Central, and nowhere in Amestris.
[He glances hesitantly up at Alphonse before looking back towards their old friend.]
It's called Nautilus.

Al nods hesitantly as Ed replies. He shares the sidelong glance with his brother before looking back at Hughes, still stuck in that surreal haze.]
You must have Woken up recently. At least, that's what the people here keep saying to anyone who arrives.
no subject
[He turns that name over in his head. No, definitely not Amestris. Not Creta or Drachma either, from what he can tell.]
Woken...? I don't remember going to sleep, actually.
[Now dying, that he remembers.]
no subject
[For as long as he's been here, it's still so weird saying something like that, true as it may be.]

Even within the same world, some of them come from different points in time...
[And this is one of those points in time he and Ed are wondering about.]
