[Good call on not asking about that busted chevron, Raf. Ratchet isn't quite as sensitive about it as he used to be, but at the same time he's not going to share the story behind it with someone he just met.]

The city, himself. The long and the short of it is that there used to be a multitude of Wakened and Ascended to maintain the multiverse. Keep watch on the worlds from the outside.

But a war several million years ago killed most of 'em off. An Ascended named Cyrus - the Deva of Change - made it her business to partner up with Nautilus and Call more people out of their worlds to become Wakened and eventually Ascended.

[Ratchet's gaze shift toward Rafael momentarily.]

So congrats. You just answered a call to a job interview and joined the rest of us here in training.

[Raf stares at him wide-eyed as he adjusts his glasses.]

Called? I was Called. [He sounds a little skeptical as he looks down at himself. Was he really capable of keeping watch on other worlds? Even then, what could someone like him do?]
