[Tails' own ears perk at that, and that's when he remembers, duh, new arrival!]

No, no! It's not like that, um... but I think I might skip a little too far ahead if I explain everything now.

You're new to this place, right? I'm pretty sure I'd remember seeing you on the network.

Uh-huh. I just was falling back asleep and then I was here, How long have you been here?

[Clutching the bag of chocolates, he stares up at the fox. Please explain. He knows that Tails is smart.]

Okay. This is kinda... a really wild ride, but just try to bear with me here!

[Although Tails will be taking up a chocolate bar of his own. Candy helps you explain things, right?]

You're in a city called Nautilus. An' Nautilus exists between our world, and other worlds from other dimensions. We're here, because we heard the Call that the city sends out for people to come here when they're ready.

Thing is, though, this place is kinda weird. It can pull people from all worlds, and from any place in their timelines, too. I guess if you know me and I don't know you, that means you're from the future back home!

So, you didn't forget, you're just from the past.

[That's a lot to take in. Nauyilus, different worlds, different time periods? Ready?]

Oh, uh, right...!

[He still had to explain the actual purpose of this place.]

See, Nautilus calls us here because the multiverse? It's... kinda in trouble. A long time ago, there was a great big war between these really powerful beings called Deva. The Deva are the ones who create worlds. But when one decided to go to war with the others, it caused a bunch'a flaws to show up in other worlds. Flaws that need to be fixed, or else reality itself could come unraveled.

[...Way to lay it on light, fuzzball.]

But that's why we're here! We're here to learn how to Bend, and then Ascend so that we can FIX these flaws!

That sounds really important. We should definitely try to help out then.

[So much, so many questions, one potentially big problem.]

But what's Bending? How do we Ascend? What happens if we don't get home? I have to be there where Dark Gaia wakes up again.

[doubletailpilot]

That's what Sonic and I are trying to do, here.

Uh... to take it one question at a time, here...! Bending is, uh... it's a power based around your willpower! With Bending, you can make just about anything possible, or make anything appear! Like this!

[To demonstrate, he holds out his hand... and a second of concentration later, there's a little chocolate cupcake in his hand.]

You can use Bending to do a whole lot more than this, but doing this kinda stuff is the easiest way to start. Bending might sound easy, but it's kinda tricky to pick up and it takes a lotta practice.

[...Sorry Tails, you kinda lost Chip's attention when a chocolate cupcake appeared in your hand. Chip automatically floats up to stare at it and is just short of actually drooling.]

Chocolate cupcaaaake...mmmmm...

[Ffft - Tails looks at Chip's transfixed stare, and he can't help laughing a little. Yeah, Nautilus was pretty serious business when you got down to it, but at least there was never really any sort of RUSH to get started, more or less.]

Ha, ha! Here...!

[Just offering that cupcake to Chip; he can consider it a welcome present.]

Really? I can have it?

[Taking the cupcake, Chip spins happily in the air and takes a bite. Chocolate is definitely the best thing in the universe, a great way to make friends and delicious too.

And yes he'll definitely want to learn ASAP, so he can help out and so he can easily have chocolate to share.]

Sonic is here too?

Sure thing! When you learn how to Bend, you'll be able to make as many of these as you want!

[The prospect of making infinite chili dogs had definitely been a good incentive for HIM, when he'd first Woken here.]

[Tails nods happily!]

Yeah, he sure is! Oh, uh, but the whole reason you probably haven't missed us? It's because time kinda STOPS back in our worlds when we get Called here. So any time you go back, it'll be the EXACT second you left, like you never left at all.

But yeah, Sonic's here! He lives in his house in the southern district!

[wantsomechocolate]

Yeah. I'm definitely going to learn it as fast as I can!

[That is all of the best incentive, and the idea that time stops at home means there's no rush so he can do it without worrying.]

Well that's a relief. I'd hate to get home later and the world is broken apart again.

So, can we go visit him?

Yeah, sure we can go visit -

[That last part, tho. It catches him.]

...THE WORLD BROKE APART?

Uh-huh. Eggman broke it apart before it was supposed to happen.

[Chip is a little confused by the outburst...but then this is quite literally his life so it's normal to him]

But it's back together for now.

[doubletailpilot]

Robotnik. After that whole reality-timeline thing, I should'a guessed.

But it's... good that it's back together, now. How'd that work? The planet coming back together, I mean.

Well, he wanted to use Dark Gaia to take over the world. But everyone helped you and me and Sonic put it back together. It shoouldn't happen again for a really long time.

[doubletailpilot]

[Tails slumps visibly with relief at that... then he smiles.]

I should'a guessed that we won. We always do!

C'mon, Sonic's probably either at his place in the south, or he's running around the plains up north again... [A shrug.] You probably know Sonic by now, can never stay still!

[wantsomechocolate]

Yeah, except when he relaxes!

[which is almost never but Chip doesn't mind. He hefts his bag of chocolates as he smiles.]
