Ginko | Mushishi

[walks_the_earth]

[A white-haired figure (possibly familiar to some residents of Nautilus) steps out from between two of the trees of the Southern district. The box on his back makes quiet shifting noises as he pulls his hands out of his pockets, bending forward slightly so he can place a cigarette in his mouth and light it with a match.

Ginko looks up, exhaling a thin stream of smoke, examining the trees before he looks back down at the sketchy path he's been following.]

Well. This doesn't look familiar... I don't think I'm in the same forest. Am I even in Japan anymore...?

[Nott had gone down to the food market to stock up on sweets when he spoted a familiar shock of white hair. For a moment he thought he'd imagined it but after a second look he realised it really was Ginko.]

Hey dude. [Nott adjusted the strap of his grey record bag on his shoulder and jogged over to the man. ] When did you get back?

[walks_the_earth]

[He flinches ever so slightly at the sudden sound of another person, though... once he's located him, it's really not what he expected.]

Ah... [Ginko's expression is one of blank surprise. Is this guy... some kind of fox spirit? That would explain why he suddenly seems to be in a different forest, though it's kind of a far-fetched explanation.

He manages to recover his tongue after a moment.] Mmm... sorry, I'm afraid I don't know you. Have we met before?

[Nott's expression freezes]

Oh.

[ And then falls.]

You forgot.

[Nott sighs running a hand though his hair before giving Ginko a friendly look even if it wasn't as bright as before.]

We have met before Ginko but forgetting that isn't too unusual. So have you just forgotten me, or the whole place too?

[walks_the_earth]

[That was... worrying, to say the least. Ginko looked around at the forest again, trying to find something, anything about it that he recognized, but... no. He was pretty sure he'd never been here before in his life. He had a pretty good memory for forests.

...but he hadn't told this guy his name, which probably meant that he had been here before. Which was, again, worrying. What exactly had he forgotten?]

Ah... I really don't know where I am. So I guess that means I forgot everything. [He shrugs, trying to act calm and not like this is actually kind of unsettling him.] Where am I? Maybe you can tell me more about this place. It might... help me remember something, maybe.

You're taking this pretty much in stride if you don't remember anything.

[Nott knew Ginko was pretty chill, but it seemed like he hadn't known quite how chill.]

Okay... I guess it's time for the welcome to Nautilus speech. That's where you are by the way, the southern district of Nautilus. The rest of the city isn't quiet so green.

Do you want to sit down for the rest of this talk, or are you okay with talking and walking?

[The prosecutor looks towards the white-haired man. He looks younger than his hair color would have him assume but Simon is no stranger to going white well before his time. There's a calmness to Ginko that interests Simon. At least he's not a loud arrival who shrieked]

No, you are not. I see you're taking this shift rather calmly.

[walks_the_earth]

[He looks over--was that guy always there? He's getting careless.

He offers the fellow a nod of cautiously friendly greeting, taking a drag from his cigarette before replying.]

Not much point in acting otherwise. It wouldn't change anything, and I'd just be tired after.

I'm Ginko, by the way.

That's true. Fretting about things that cannot be changed is wasted energy and effort.

[He gives a nod in greeting]
