Fortunately, quick reflexes were necessary to survival in his line of work. He felt the rush of wind coming his way and quickly hit the dirt to roll out of the way. He whirled around, bringing his pistol and knife up to aiming height.

He took aim at the target, a giant spider. Of all things.

Without lowering either, he aimed to where the giant wave of energy had come from. Whatever kind of weapon they had, it would have a distinct advantage over bullets. He just had to figure whose side the kid was on. Snake stayed trained on the kid but listened for the spider. He waited for to move, to explain, introduce, or otherwise declare themselves hostile.
