Whenever Steve saw full body armor like that, not many people came to mind. However, that one doesn't follow Stark's particular aesthetic. Besides, those movements screamed trained soldier to the... well, the trained eye, if one pardoned the pun. Iron Man is definitely not one of those. And although War Machine is, Steven has the very strong hunch that one over there is not James Rhodes either.

That conclusion reached, there are still many things to consider here. One is that approaching a soldier on duty may lead to an altercation, since he may be under instructions of not talking with the general population. Or the prisoners. Which, as far as Steve knows, he may actually be. But it's not like he has many options, so he's going to risk it. Besides, it doesn't seem to be any other soldier around. Which is very weird, to be honest.

All right, let's clear this up.

He makes sure to keep his hands visible and be candid enough to approach in such a way that the vulnerable one is him - even if he took note of all possible escape routes.

"Hello?" he calls in what he hopes is a non-threatening tone of voice.

Works for me~

The movement in his direction noticed, Fives turned, glancing towards the man. Nothing about him registered as familiar, at least from those he'd seen while skimming the network if not about the city. From the way the guy looked, it didn't seem like he was very familiar with this place either. The subtle glances around, the displaying of his hands- the guy was ready to bolt if he had to.

Settling his blaster carbine into its usual rest position in front of him, the clone nodded towards the newcomer. "Easy there. I'm not gonna eat you." He paused, glancing down at his weapon before amending, "-or blast you. New around here? Welcome to th' city."
illbethere: (I'll think about it)

[personal profile] illbethere 2016-05-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not becoming food is certainly a relief," he replies, hoping it was just a metaphoric remark.

"I guess I am. Although I'm not even sure where this place is, so I'd appreciate any information on the matter."
notjustanumber: (helmet - look right)

[personal profile] notjustanumber 2016-05-07 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The clone trooper chuckles. "Be more surprised if you did, although it's not unusual for someone to come back to it after returnin' to Sleep, I've heard. This is Nautilus. It's ah... well, it's not somewhere anyone outside of bein' here would know, and from that point it gets a little tricky to explain."
illbethere: (Right)

[personal profile] illbethere 2016-05-07 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He sighs in resignation.

"I've heard my share of hard-to-explain situations. Whatever it is, believe me, I can handle it."
notjustanumber: (helmet - I heard that)

[personal profile] notjustanumber 2016-05-07 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just givin' you th' standard preamble," Fives replies, a smirk in his tone. "All right. So, first off, you're here because you answered th' call of the city- whether you might remember it or not. A call to Awaken. Everyone here's been called from their own worlds, and even different times within th' same worlds or galaxies. You can go back home- the call it back to Sleep, and things pick up right where you've left off- so I've heard."

He pauses. "With me so far?"
illbethere: (I'll think about it)

[personal profile] illbethere 2016-05-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Very slowly, Steven takes a deep breath.

"All right," he says and breathes again. "All right, that's a new one. A call to what? Does the city need help?"

So far, he's not considering the city as an entity of its own. He believes it's a shorthand way to call some kind of council or government body.
notjustanumber: (helmet - what'd you say?)

[personal profile] notjustanumber 2016-05-08 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
The guy's managing to take it pretty well so far, which Fives is thankful for. "Well...a call to...change, I guess? It's a little unclear, actually. I won't lie though, things've happened here that th' city needs th' help it can get."

He supposes he should touch upon the topic of the Ascended. That's the only reason he didn't jump right into mentioning that the city itself is the highest form. "I'm no expert in all this, mind you- just passin' on th' things I've heard and learned. So uh. About change. This city's called th' City of Change, and those that do so enough, ascend. If it wasn't already weird, it will be now.

"It's...like a ranking system. You change, you gain a level- Angelii. They get some abilities, an' they can travel beyond this city to other worlds, help repair things. The next rank up is Ashura, and toppin' that, Deva. I guess some people'd consider 'em gods, but they seem'ta be pretty much people still, just with more power than th' general public."

He pauses to see if Steven's still following. "And lastly, there's Aeon. I'll admit, don't know too much about it, 'cept that we're standin' on one."
illbethere: (Dear lord)

[personal profile] illbethere 2016-05-08 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Steven raises his hands. Wait. Wait wait wait.

"Sorry. I'm not sure if I'm following. What your trying to say is that I was called here to be offered the chance to climb the ranks from angel to god?"

Angelii, angel, whatever. He's not entirely sure it's possible. Or a good idea.

"I'm not that arrogant. And I have things to do back in my own world."

Like looking for Bucky.
notjustanumber: (helmet - How do you get this thing off a)

[personal profile] notjustanumber 2016-05-08 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I dunno what angels are where you're from but they live on the moons of Iego, I've heard- in my galaxy. And I'm not sayin' we're trying to become gods- but bein' here does give a person access t'do things we might normally not have been able to, wherever we came from."

Fives sighs. This is why he doesn't handle explaining things to the newbs- he barely understands it all himself. He might still not believe all the Ascension stuff, save that he knows there are Ascended here, at least in title. A lot of them don't act so high and lofty as one might expect of a god or otherwise- not that the clone is familiar with those either.

"Look, if you want, you can just go back through th' gate," he says, glancing around a moment before pointing in the direction of the nearest one. "No guarantee it'll work on th' first try, and it's likely that you'd just end up back here."
illbethere: (I'll think about it)

[personal profile] illbethere 2016-05-09 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
At this point of his life, he really, really shouldn't be surprised about hearing about moons and galaxies. Ever since his life became material for a science fiction novel, he kind of forfeited that right.

"If there's one chance, I'd like to try it regardless." It wasn't in his nature to give up at the first sign of trouble.

But before he turned to the door Fives glanced at, he remembered he had manners. So he offered his hand to the other soldier.

"Steve Rogers, by the way. Thank you for the explanation."
notjustanumber: (helmet - I'm smilin')

[personal profile] notjustanumber 2016-05-09 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The ARC Trooper nodded. He wasn't going to tell the guy no, and the response he was given sounded like something any of his brothers or even the Jedi he knew would say.

"Good luck to you, then," he offered, pausing as he looked to the hand extended to him. He reached out to give it a firm shake.

"Name's Fives. Hope it was at least a little helpful. It's a lot to absorb when you first get here."
illbethere: (Profile smile)

[personal profile] illbethere 2016-05-10 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Shake shake.

"Thank you, Fives," Steve says. Although he did notice the lack of a rank - and that it sounded more like a nickname.

"Um. Would you mind if I ask you what the armor is for?" He wasn't leaving - attempting to leave - without asking.
notjustanumber: (Locked and loaded)

[personal profile] notjustanumber 2016-05-10 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not a problem." It was the least he could do, as ill-practiced as he was for it. Despite being here for just over a year now, it still was difficult to believe the things he had to describe about the place.

Head lifting a bit at the question, Fives gave another nod, along with a shrug.

"Oh, this. I'm part of th' Grand Army of the Republic. ARC Trooper- that's Advanced Recon Commando. Hope I didn't cause alarm- I'm just used to it."

"Full-body armor isn't that unusual for me. Although the kind I know looks nothing like yours."

He frowned slightly too. "Is the rest of that army here too?"

"A soldier too, then. I kind'uv wondered. You've got this kind of feel to you."

Fives laughed a little, shaking his head. "No, 's just me an' my brother. We're far from th' war we've been in, out here. It's strange, but I can't argue with havin' a little peace and quiet."
