Ace folded his arms grumpily. "Well, you didn't give me a lot of details."

"I've only just met you. Think I'm going too? Mmm?" Ten slightly raises his eyebrows in question as if saying, really now.

After a moment, his attention goes back to the surrounding area.

"This should be impossible going to an alternate dimension."

Ten pinches himself, "Solid alright. But how in blimey did I get here?" As Ten has his hands on his sides.

"What else do you know about this Nautilus?"
ace_of_hearts: (bow)

[personal profile] ace_of_hearts 2016-06-28 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Ace shrugged. It was a good point.

"I'm Ace, Portgas D. Ace," he offered a handshake and another bow.

"You got here because some part of you wanted to, even if you don't believe it or want to yet. As for what I know...." Ace rubbed the back of his neck with a hand. "A lot?" He dug through the pouch belted to his shorts and pulled out the communicator, turned it on and flipped it to Lelouch's guide. "Here! This is the best place to start."

Ten takes the offered handshake, "I'm The Doctor." Afterwards, takes the device and reads the guidebook.

People are pulled here by the call to 'Awaken', and those with a certain potential answer the call. We were all pulled from our respective worlds.

After reading that particular sentence, Ten appears rather frighten in the eyes. That would mean - there's something more powerful than even him out here. But - what? Why was he needed?

"Who's in charge here in this world?"
ace_of_hearts: (I'm here what was your other 2 wishes?)

"Nautilus," he answered quietly. "Though I wouldn't call it in charge. He's alive, thinking, feeling, helps out, gives presents," Ace tapped the group with the toe of his shoe, "But you aren't going to get orders or anything. Supposedly it's a self defense mechanism thing," Ace waved a hand, "But the guy babbling on about that was a real psycho. Even by pirate standards."

Another chin rub, "Mostly you're free to do what you want, figure out why you're here, because it's different for everyone, and what you need to do here, just don't kill anyone or go around being a jerk and it's fine. There's storms though, I used to think Nautilus was sending them, but they say it's the chaos of the void drifting over here." He looked distant for a bit, "Ah, and there's exploring. Outside of Nautilus there are other worlds like that, and the ascended usually try to keep the chaos from hurting things too much. I don't know, it's a huge headache, too dumb to deal with," he shot the Doctor a wry grin.
borntolove: (Disguising)

[personal profile] borntolove 2016-06-28 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then what in bloody hell would you call it?" Someone sounds a bit irritated since Ten would consider that alive and in charge if Nautilus could bring Ten here.

"I don't need orders. The problem has funny habit of finding me. And I'm just suppose to let the thing live. Whatever is putting the inhabits in danger I'm not suppose to go killing it off? Look, I'm just going to find the problem. Find my police box and go back to my universe where I'm needed. This isn't right at all. I shouldn't be in an alternate reality."

Just why couldn't it had been the alternate world where Rose was?

Ten stops as he had begin to stomp away as the feeling of dread fills him.

"You can access the void here? The in-between? The empty space between worlds."

Then a pause, "Excuse me. Are you calling me stupid?"

Ace blinked a few times, considered his options, then held up both hands to show he meant no harm.

"Deep breath, man."

He knocked back the hat on his hair and ran a hand through it. "No? I'm not calling you stupid. I got pulled here same as you, you haven't done anything. I was saying I guess maybe I'm too stupid to deal with certain things, okay?" As for the rest, he shook out his hair. "Yeah... yeah you can access the empty space between worlds here. I don't know why you got here. That's something inside of you," Ace very gently poked a finger to the Doctor's forehead for emphasis. "You're not going to get orders, even if you wanted them. It drives my boyfriend nuts. As for alternate reality...." Ace looked off again, and set his hat back on with more certainty. "It's not. It's just... in between everything. Elevated state."

Ace fixed the Doctor with an extremely serious look. "Everyone has a different reason inside themselves for wanting to come here. I can't tell you that reason. But if you want to go home, turn around, and walk out. And if you can't walk out, there's a few reasons for that. Either you don't really believe you're here yet, or your will, your resolve, isn't strong enough, because there's a lot of different things you want to do."

The hands went back up innocently and he smiled softly, "Don't worry, I've been there too. It happens to everyone. As for what puts people in danger..." Ace's expression flickered: a little amused, wry, and a tug of sympathetic self-loathing. "It varies. You do what you want, Sir Doctor. I don't think even my nakama could stop me from killing Blackbeard if he showed up. Or you know, die trying... again. But some things can't be fought directly. Storms are like waves. They can be dangerous and pull you under, but you usually do better by learning to rise above and ride it out."

An even more amused wry smirk appeared, "Or if you're my boyfriend, slice through them anyway. But I just hope he doesn't get worn out by them, like rocks turning into sand, yeah?"

"You are calling me stupid. You said it was the ascended's job to keep chaos from hurting other worlds and it's a huge headache and stupid to deal with." Sorry, Ace but that did hit a rather personal note.

Ten remains rather quiet. That is why he was summoned here, wasn't it? After all, it is his doing with stealing the Cyberman and Dalek's in the in-between. Meanwhile, The Doctor is slightly pinching the bridge of his nose in thought and begins to pace. How is he here? How is anyone else here? The in-between should have sealed itself. What if it hadn't. What if someone or something managed to open that again?

"I didn't plan on coming here." How the Doctor got separated from his box he still can't figure. He could be teleported out of his Tardis. Which would take a rather significant amount of power which is probable. That has happened once before...

"Are you and your boyfriend the only inhabits? How are storms like waves?"

Ace folded his arms. "I take it your job is to generally keep chaos from hurting other worlds then?" He didn't want to straight up say he didn't believe it... it was... possible but unlikely. And weird. It would explain why the man was there though.

"No one plans on coming here. It's something deep inside you. A call you respond you to."

Ace shook his head and dropped his arms, shoving his hands in the board shorts pockets. "Nah, Zoro and I live with like, 18 others," he's exaggerating, "And that's just at Sanji's restaurant. I think there's about a hundred and fifty people here, give or take. I'm not great at math, and I never sat down to count everyone, but it seems to be about a division & a half worth. Maybe two."

"Storms are..." Ace winced slightly, already knowing the Doctor was going to have a tough time believing him, "Reality storms. That chaos thing overcoming everyone. Ahhhh..." Ace rolled his neck thinking through it all. "Look in that guide that Lelouch made, it listed a few things. I've been turned into a leopard, a cat, a dog, a child, a woman, believed I was stuck in school repeating a couple years on account of bad behavior and my Gramps, people got stuck in an village once, Nautilus flooded -- though I'm not sure if that was a storm or not, there were ghosts, and... hell if I know them all. They're like waves, because they build up." He took the hands out of his pockets and mimed the ebb and flow of tides. "They build up slow, then crash over, but if you ride them out, they can be a lot of fun and give you all the momentum to do something great. Like surfing. And if you fight them tooth and nail, they'll pull you under and you'll risk drowning."

The hands went back in the pockets and Ace cracked his neck to the side. "No sir, I wasn't calling you stupid. My nakama, Sanji, who is the very reason I have a place I can call home, is an Ascended. He fights the chaos in his own way, and I'd punch anyone who insulted him." He rolled his head in a circle again, still leaving it tilted at an angle. "He gets warning signs, those build-ups before storms happen. Sometimes they're useful, sometimes they're not. It's a lot of work, but he's one of the strongest, most caring, most amazing people you could have the honor to even meet." He's even fiercer about defending Sanji than Zoro. "He keeps my baby brother alive back in our world..." he hesitated to call it that. Was Ace really a part of that world? He was... but almost only through Sanji and the others. "And I'd be very lost without him."

A deep breath, and Ace's eyes were all fire. "But don't underestimate the toll of trying to put right all that goes wrong. Trying to keep everything in stasis isn't wise, and Nautilus is the city of change. You can't grow without a little chaos, understood?"

He relaxed down again, and looked up at the sky with a small sigh. It still seemed weird that the sky wasn't real in a way. That the ocean breeze wasn't strong enough, overwhelming enough like in his own world. But he wondered idly what the other worlds were like, especially Rose's.

"Storms aren't meant to be fought. You want to protect the universe, that's very fine and noble, but some things can go too far. Who's to decide what's right and what's not? I've seen a lot of evil done in the name of Justice, and a lot of good men put in Hell for the sins of somebody else."

He waved a hand, he wanted to walk away, but even for Ace, that was too rude to just leave a new stranger like that, so he merely turned to look around them for the sake of it. "Do what suits you. If you go too far, others will enact consequences of their own. It's the way of everything, I suspect."

"And if you don't think that's a huge headache, and yeah, stupid to deal with..." he tossed a grin over his shoulder, "Your eyes are lying about what they've seen, and you need to get out and live a little more."

Something happens, suddenly Ten himself turns rather grave in the face.

"I'm a Time Lord. My people were mighty until the Last Great War against the Daleks. Machines that don't know anything outside of taking commands, destruction and death. I had thought my people who gave their lives in that fight to keep the Daleks from spreading across the universe where gone. But I was wrong. They survived and managed to make a hole in the in-between thanks to some help from Touchwood. The four Daleks found a piece of Time Lord technology which could only be opened by a time traveler... It was the prison for the millions for Daleks. Meanwhile, the Cyberman from an alternate version of Earth came through the in-between as well into that world. The only choice was to suck them all into the in-between and to stay there so they wouldn't harm anyone."

As Ten drifts off on his story, he appears to have hundreds of years of destruction and death behind those eyes.

Ten scrunches his face, "What kind of lunatic place is this? People becoming animals just like that?" On 'that' he snaps his fingers.

"I could venture to gather that he is."

Of course, Ten is just a little lost with having lived so many different lives.

There's no reply for the rest of Ace's lecture. Only strong dead silence from worn and tired eyes. He's lost Rose because of this. He knows the risks. At least she is happy and safe out there on that alternate Earth. Ten does give Ace a slight head nod.

His own gaze makes their way up towards the stars. There was something uneasy and quite thrilling at the same time not knowing exactly where and when he was.

A huge headache, yes. Stupid - nah.
ace_of_hearts: (If that's how you're going to be)

[personal profile] ace_of_hearts 2016-06-29 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ace's eyes widen slightly. That's... a lot to take in, even for a guy who created a world war just by being born.
Give him a bit.

"Ah..." he hesitated, and closed his eyes to think as well.

The important things --

"This isn't... that kind of place," he frowned, understanding the Doctor's concerns now. "By in between..." He bit his bottom lip. If the rest was hard to explain, this was just going to get weirder, "It's in between reality... yeah... but... not..." He rubbed the back of his neck, turning around fully to look at the Doctor helplessly, before sitting down on the ground.

"I think we'd have noticed daleks and cybermen, yeah?" Although... Although...

Ace gulped. "I mean... they still might come here if you're here, but don't take that as a sign to run. If they do come... They'll find this place a lot harder to destroy than most."

A weary sigh and Ace pointed to his blue box, inadequate as it was. "That trick I did with making that. I made it. Through sheer force of will. Because that's the kind of place this is. It's harder to keep things solid, of course, but even just existing is a struggle of will sort of. No, staying awake here I mean."

He closed his eyes again, and leaned back, face towards the sky and crossed legs outstretched to an old position he used to take as a child. "This is... in between your consciousness? I think... Sort of like... heaven and hell and reality and inside and out all at once. Sorry, I know that's... not helpful," he looked up at the doctor apologetically, "But that's how it is. You must have traveled a lot of worlds, so this is ... I don't want to say 'smaller' but more internal?" Ace sighed again. "My brother, one who left... Asato Tsuzuki. He was in a place like purgatory before here. A special afterlife to help souls move on. I don't even know if my world has a place like that. After death I mean. I saw Hell though, but it was before my death."

He grimaced slightly. "Have you ever met the dead again? Those who really died I mean. I'm not... My story is finished in my world. I'm not alive there anymore. If I go back with Sanji's help, it's as a ghost. Nothing more. I don't know, maybe that is where you locked away the daleks..." Ace rubbed the back of his neck uncertainly again, looking off into the distance. "But this is more like... something inside you wakes up here and lets you connect to it. Even if you're dead like me. I was... here before I died. I went back to face it. Because of my nakama. I was in Hell at the time, so my desire to go watch myself live that wasn't very strong, but I promised Zoro, and I owed it to my baby brother..." That left a bad taste in his mouth and he wanted to punch Zoro all over again.

"When you... When you're here, time doesn't keep flowing for you individually back in your life...?" Ace looked at the doctor uncertainly. Maybe the Timelord already knew to expect that? But if so, it probably didn't ease anything. "And... and when you go back, even though you're still you, the part of you that remembers being here, can't change things. That's something the Ascended have to deal with sometimes. When things go wrong?" Ace was still quite uneasy with that. Would his friends say his death was something gone wrong? But it had been his choice, and he stood by it. "I-- My death wasn't pretty. But it was a choice. I made to protect my baby brother. I don't think I'd be okay with someone trying to 'right' that, as it were..." It made him uneasy. He wasn't sure if the Doctor could make sense of that, but it was the only example he could think of.

"You..." Ace drew in a deep breath and let out a low whistle. "You're going to need to see it for yourself," he decided solemnly, rose to his feet and dusted off, offering the Doctor a hand once more. "The storms, the chaos, the worlds, Nautilus, the white nothingness, and then you can decide what you want to do about it all. Or with it. Or whether it's in danger. This is the only place I've got now. I have to stay so my kid brother can find me again. I won't let anything stand in my way from that. But if you think the daleks and cybermen, your enemies, might be around here, or in the unknown... then you better start outfitting yourself with a way to handle that. I can teach you how to do things with Will, but depending on how --" Ace shook his head, he was going to 'serious the threat is' but it was obvious the Doctor considered it the end of existence of everything so that was not the right phrasing at all. "Likely or close they are to being here..." he winced, that wasn't right either, so he tried to explain. "This place, Nautilus at least," he tapped the ground with the toe of his boot again. "Is a place of soul and will. Of consciousness. Some people would have a much harder time waking up here than others."

A sigh, "But that doesn't mean they might not come. If they are in the chaos or the void... I don't mean you should run away, it won't protect this place, but they might be able to latch onto you. That's...." another grimace, "That's how I hunt, so I don't think they'd do much differently, yeah?"

But... "But..." Ace tried to offer a consolation and turned his opposite arm into pure fire. "They won't have an easy time invading this place. I'm not even the strongest person here. Yet." He couldn't resist the last word. "And Nautilus is alive too, he doesn't interfere much or often, but when a bunch of us were getting sick from a virus? Parasite? Something from the chaos or void, it turned people into trees. Nautilus did his best to head it off and keep it from spreading and making everyone sick." Another head tilt, and the fire arm went back to human. "There was someone... Someone I hate, a sick manipulative fuck, who once said that it's a defense mechanism on Nautilus' part so he can use all of us. And I hate to even agree with that guy on the ocean being blue, but I think he might be right. But that doesn't make it a bad thing... I think." Another sigh and Ace rubbed the back of his neck, "My Pops needed all of his crew, his sons to protect him, and he protected us right back, as his very own children, and we love him for that." He shook a hand. "Point is... if they can go back from here..." Ace blinked. It gave him a weird sick hope for a second.

He didn't want his action changed... and it was something the Ascended would be against. The dead weren't meant to go back to where they were dead. Too cluttered perhaps. Or something else more dire. But it was a rule even Ace felt needed abiding by.

And yet....

If he could...

If they could find a way back... couldn't he too?

He swallowed the hope anyway. "Then you're going to need to find a way to seal that off," he added dryly. "And you'll find help here. But I'm going to warn you now, seal me off from that too. I'm a pirate, I'm not great at avoiding temptation." And he didn't even want to think of what his nakama might do if they found out such a route might exist. Maybe it was just as well that the other Whitebeards hadn't woken up yet.

Ten tries to make sense of that sentence in-between reality and yet not gets a raised eyebrow from the Doctor.

"Oh, yes. You would." Which is why Ten is glad he got here first. He knows that the Dalek would identify themselves. As would the Cyberman.
Ten tries to make sense of that sentence in-between reality and yet not gets a raised eyebrow from the Doctor. Almost sounds like a pocket universe.

"Oh, yes. You would." Which is why Ten is glad he got here first. He knows that the Dalek would identify themselves. As would the Cyberman, "The Daleks are rather vocal about who they are." As well as who they hate.

"Quite alright. I always get called to a place for a reason. Don't worry. I won't go. Question is what?" Ten eyes around for a moment which will only be known with exploring more of this place and gathering information.

Ten makes an inquisitive face about the sheer force of will. Obviously, this place functions on some reality bending?

Ten stares at Ace very serious as Ace continues to talk, "No. Only aliens." As Ten reflects on the aliens trying to cross the inter-dimensional bridge and only coming though as ghosts or the Vashta Nerada. The Doctor can't help but be bothered on a few levels with the fact that this place brings the dead back. Like some time reversal or afterlife.

The Doctor actually was thinking that things were just moving very slowly in his world because his brain rejects the idea of being in a fixated point in time.

"That was noble what you did for your brother." The Doctor's eyes shine sadly, the amount of people that have given their lives so that he could finish the job. That is never easy to live with.

"I can't fix everything some things are fixed."Things like Thomas Edison inventing the light bulb or Hitler rising to power. The Time Lord will not re-write history.

Ten doesn't seem too surprised about Ace's arm transforming into fire like that. Actually, he appears to have more interest in that tree story.

Finally Ten remarks with a chipper, "Well then. Let's see what this place is all about."
