Guru Clef - Magic Knights Rayearth
Except... this wasn't Cephiro. He knew much of his odd homeland from his centuries of exploration and teaching, and there was no way that it had changed this much so soon, even with the Princess captive.
"Zagato..." he said, grimly. Somehow Zagoto had sent him away from Cephiro, away from his home. Was this the world of the Magic Knights? He knew what their odd armor looked like, so if he saw others garbed the same, he would know. And wherever he was, he would find his way home. Magic was controlled by the Will in Cephiro. Everything was. And Guru Clef was one of the three strongest mages the land called its own. Zagato was not going to be able to keep him away AND keep the Princess captive at the same time. He would return home to help the Magic Knights fulfill their destiny.
He just had to figure out how.
Am I allowed to squeal loudly at the sight of Clef?
"Are you new?" Time to get the most obvious question out of the way.
Only if I am allowed to do the same at the thought that you know who he is!
"I suppose that answer depends on how you are defining new," he said dryly. "To life, no. To this place, apparently. But I will not be staying long."
Which was actually kind of sad, because in all of his years, when had he ever had the chance to explore a whole other world. That must have been Zagato's hope, that his own natural curiosity and desire to learn would override his sense of duty. Zagato was about to learn a rather painful lesson to the contrary.
I can agree to this! Clef is forever one of my all time favorite Clamp characters!
Leanne blinks at his answer before letting out a soft giggle before a couple of vines get curious about the mage and grow enough to approach him.
"You smell like you are old. Those who are here somehow, someway want to be here. One can leave I hear by the same gate the came through from."
She spread her wings to fly down to land a few feet away from him. "This is Natiulus, you will find your powers are gone."
Then I hope I do him justice!!!
His face darkened slightly at the news that his powers were gone, but he did not argue or deny it. Magic came from force of will, and he would not waste his arguing. Nor would he let her claim shake his confidence. He would believe in his powers. There was no skill of Zagato's that could bind him. Not while he also bound Emeraude. Zagato was powerful, but not nearly that strong.
Still, that did not mean that this girl was lying. He sensed no more malice from her than he did from the vines.

"Do you know which gate you came from, my lord? We are close to the East Gate and the Southern Gate is near where the sun always shines."
She sees the his face darkening and lets out a sigh. "There is a way to regain your powers while you are here and learn new ones. It depends on your will. Serenes has taken a liking to you so I can help as well as Serenes."
She goes to let out another sigh and coos at him. "You have something you need to get back to and quickly. To get back through the gate, try and figure out what made you come here. I can lead you to the East Gate and the South Gate as I am forbidden to head either north or west without anyone with me. But I know of those who can guide you to the other gates if they are where you entered this city."
I hope so! I am drawing from the Manga, as I have not seen much of the anime, and that was years ago
"I do not know which gate I came from, though I do know that I need to return home."
I personally liked the manga better myself.
She just nods her head, despite his height and youthful appearance. His scent and what she can sense from him betrays his age and how powerful he was before coming here. "Let us try the East gate first since it is the closest. If I may be so bold to ask, what is the name of my lord?"
