"You're very boring. You speak normal, until people realise you can speak. Then you just say 'quack.'"

Not interested. He shoves the non-clapping hand in his pocket. The other just continues on.

"Would you prefer if I said chirp?" Rather than the large blue bird that was flapping in front of him moments before, Marco materialized in place of it, each part of him transforming piece by piece, one foot on the ground and one foot still held out for the doctor to shake. He had excellent balance.

"From my experience I'm very boring when I'm bored. It's remarkable how much you can elicit from people with just simple stimulus, and I debated simply following you around for a few days doing nothing but quacking to see if you'd crack. Fortunately for you, I've found you to be a bit more interesting than simply a victim of my boring boredom." He wiggles his foot in the air, still totally expecting the doctor to shake it. Come on, don't leave him hanging bro!

The Doctor doesn't seem surprised at the transformation itself. More that Marco has the ability to do it to do it at all in this place.

"Again, if you can do that, why are my abilities gone?"

He will seek out whomever did this and... do something. Maybe the 'Warrior' will come out.

He stares at the foot with a look that just says, 'seriously?' The Doctor would leave his companion hanging for a high-five, don't expect him to touch your foot, Marco.

Marco chuckled at his superior knowledge, and transformed his foot back into a talon, his arms back into wings, and kept the rest of himself human form. Come onnnn, it's a talon now! You gotta shake!

"It takes a lot of time, patience, and practice. Anyone here can do it, but you've gotta work at it. It has to do with bending the reality of the universe around you, believing that you can do something goes a long way towards being able to do it, but there's a lot more to it than that."

This Doctor has died hundreds of billions of times. Very little moves him at this point. Maybe if Marco was a Dalek...

"So people keep saying. I've only been here a couple of hours. And until I know what this 'bending' might do to my brain, I'll pass on trying."

Because maybe it's a way for them to take control of him. And he could be - had been - used as a very powerful weapon if that was the case.

Marco may not be a time lord, and may not be half the age of the universe, but he was immortal enough to be a very patient man when he wanted to be. He sat down, and what do you know, his foot was still raised up in the air, waiting... just waiting for the Doctor to one day accept that shake.

"By all means, you have all the time you like in a place like this. Me? I think my brain might have crossed wires somewhere a long, long time ago, because this sort of thing just seems perfectly natural to me with all the things I've seen." People who turned into birds was just the snow flake on the very tip of the iceberg.

"Quack?" He raised his foot up and down, mimicking a hand shake. Clearly you insult his nationality, ethnicity, and religion by refusing such a simple gesture of good will as shaking hand... with foot.

Had the Doctor - any of them been brought here willingly, the Doctor might feel differently about the subject. As it stood, no. He was in protective mode. Which meant figuring out what this place was and setting aside anyone who tried to distract him from that purpose.

"I see. I've met your kind before. Can't say I'm a fan."

And he can wave that foot all he wants. The one hand remains in the Doctor's pocket and the other continues to clap.
im_a_phoenix: (Excuse you?)

[personal profile] im_a_phoenix 2016-09-11 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
... Okay, now he was annoyed. It wasn't the fact that the Doctor was ignoring him, though that did irk him a bit. It wasn't the fact that he said he wasn't really a fan of Marco, because there weren't that many people who were.

"Funny, I can't say I'm a fan of people that lump me in with some kind of people, and take that as their cue to brush me off. Here I am, trying to be friendly, and rather than bask in the glory of my clearly superior wisdom when it comes to this world, you choose to clap away like an off-beat tambourine player." His tone had gone from a playful bantering deadpan to a frosty and far less amused tone.

"Why are you clapping your hand like that?"

The Doctor is nonplussed by anything at this point. Well, at least not that he'd willingly show strangers. Friends and companions? That's a different story entirely.

He realises that Marco doesn't get it. But that's fine, he's well past explaining things to others as well. But he'll answer the last question.

"One of my senses has been taken from me. This is the only way to give me some semblance of it."

"... Iiiinteresting." Be afraid doctor, be very afraid.

"You know, you've got this rhythm going... let's see what I can do with it." And the Phoenix man clears his throat and begins... to rap at him.

"Yo, yo, we have time to kill bro!
Time was alive but we murdered it, NO!
Yo, yo, when will the time show?
Oh, oh, well what do you know?
Where will it stop where will it go?
Oh no, the time just won't flow!

So put your hands together,
And put your feet together,
Clap right along forever,
Oh, oh, and never say never!
Oh where did the time go?
Oh, oh, he'll find it you know!" Then Marco adds several more claps as if a thunderous applause was going along with it, that only he can hear.

"Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all eternity ladies and gentleman!"

"Well if you'll be here all of eternity, best I leave you to it."

The Doctor doesn't plan on staying. And so with a slight tip of his head, he starts to walk away.

The man-bird reminds him of someone... Well, two someones. 'Me' and... P.E. Though that second one the Doctor doesn't like to think about. There are too many 'Clara-holes' surrounding his memories about P.E.
im_a_phoenix: (... Quack.)

[personal profile] im_a_phoenix 2016-09-11 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing about Marco? He doesn't really give up on a schtick too easily. So he's just going to keep following the doctor, hopping on one foot the whole way. If he does bother to turn around and see that Marco is indeed following him, Marco will promptly offer him... his foot.

"Quack?" This time he's got the bird face again as he offers the shake.

The Doctor has had companions since he was... in his one-hundreds? Three-hundreds. Now that his lived experience can be count in billions, does it matter?

So the man-bird can follow him all he wants. He knows how to ignore such things.
