[Jack isn't stupid and he's broken hearted that they don't match up. But he's good at playing the game and he steps back the charming mask is in place with a cheeky wink and a grin.]
I knew I'd find out what that hard work entailed Doc...I'd love a drink.

What's been happening? [this he really does want to know. There are things that Fluffy won't tell him. Granted he doesn't much know where this Jack is from but if nothing else he'll get something filled in]

[Jack is good at this game, he's had to be for centuries playing the "I don't know your future" role when he actually did. He's good at hiding his pain when it was killing him inside.]
Oh you know Doctor saving the world...doing what you taught me...trying to dance with anything that will have me.

No, sorry. I can't do this. I don't remember who you are though Rose speaks of you so I will. I'm sorry. [he turns to face the man and grips his shoulders]
But I have to know what happens. I know we lose Rose. I know how. But... do we get her back? Can you tell me that much? Do we find a way or... break a rule or... or is it just... the end.

[Jack considers the question long and hard. He still carries a deep sense of anger at his abandonment, but there is also Rose to consider. Jack would never do anything to damage her relationship with her first Doctor nor does Jack want to ruin things for himself either. His love for this version is deep and complete, he died for him, tried to make the world better in his name. He would burn the world down it this Doctor asked him to.]
Yes and no Doctor. You get her back briefly but you let her go again. Well if I'm being honest you let all of us go even me. I haven't seen you in two years myself and I haven't seen this version of you since...well since I died the first time.
[Jack's eyes show his age, because he has a sense this Doctor will understand, understand the grief and loss Jack has carried all his life.]
I could give you details, but I'm not sure I want to or even if I should.

Nah... [he patted his cheek lightly and then wrapped an arm around his shoulders again, this time warmer, keeping him closer] Sorry for... [he gestures, not sure if everything will cut it] And thank you for telling me.
But don't tell Fluffy-- My tenth face. Just-- he's got enough to go through and there's enough messes to mop up after without that breaking too. Blimey. You'd think we'd have less with all of us here together but somehow things just keep getting worse.
[and he was very much part of the problem. Or maybe the biggest problem of all]

[The familiar touch makes Jack's heart ache for a time that was long gone. A more innocent time where he was simply a former con man running through time and space with the two people he loved best. He manages a smile for the Doctor slightly dim but still there.]
I promise I won't tell....believe me I've spent centuries learning to be the master of my timeline. I'm not about to screw things up now.

[he smiles at him with a kind of distant fondness.]
But now that I think about it I can see it in you. Time. So much of it. Backwards and forwards and byways.
But you're human, yeah? Completely.

[Jack nods seeing no reason to hide this truth from his Doctor. The other ones can yell at him later for it if they get mad enough, but Jack is tried and raw and simply too worn out to care about people's feelings right now.]
I'm a fixed point in time as it was explained to me a few years ago yes. Full of Time and no where to safely put it.

Because beyond that... it seemed like a very long life and very long lives were not always as pleasant as people thought they were]
Not much better here I'm afraid. Lots of time. Not a lot to do about it. Oh well storms and ascending but... it's all very localized and a bit... well you can't always choose what's going to happen to you.
In other words, in this place, it's either feast or famine and there's no guarantee you'll like the food but you've got to eat it anyway most of the time.

[Jack would give this version of the Doctor anything he wanted and then some. This is the man who saved him and gave him a purpose. That scares Jack on a small level because of the things he's done since his companion days, but he would still give Nine whatever he wanted without thinking twice. This thought is equally as scary and Jack is pretty sure he's screwed in more ways then one.]
Don't worry about me Doctor, I've been through hell and then some. I'll make it through whatever this place has to toss at me and then give hell right back.
no subject
I can see I'll like you already. Don't suppose you want to tell me how we met. [he holds up a hand] But on the other hand I think I'd rather find out for myself. I'll bet it's spectacular.

[Jack grins. This is a story he wishes he could tell, but rules are rules and his timeline was enough of a mess already.]
Oh believe me Doctor it is, but to tell you now would indeed ruin the fun. I'll just say life with me is never going to be boring and leave it at that.
