[Making another huffy noise, Link dug through a drawer trying to find a knife for foods. After a few tries he found one and handed it over.]

She looked at the knife and gave him a look that asked if he was kidding her. How could you cut vegetables with something that small?!

[Girl, you are not going to use his sword for cooking. Link cleans it obsessively, but, it's been in monsters, and goddesses only know where the monsters have been. Also, given that a lot of his weapons are the reason he's still alive, he feel indebted to them.]

It works fine. Want me to show you?

She made a face but held the knife out to him. No way anyone can cut vegetables with anything smaller than a sword!

[Sigh. Link started cutting the vegetables into reasonably equal pieces.]

That actually seemed to make her angrier. He was going SO SLOWLY! Who could cook that slowly? Vegetables had to be chopped much more quickly! GRRRRRRRRR

[Link noticed the anger, but, kept chopping. Rule number one in life? Don't hand an angry girl a knife. Brave, not stupid.]

I can do this good, or I can do this fast. You pick.

BOTH! Duh! She pointed again to his sword. That would go MUCH faster.

[SIGH.]

If you wanna chop veggies with a sword, you're gonna have to get your own sword from someone else.

My weapons aren't for food-prep.

And now she's looking around for someone else, someone who might have a sword. Because it's just weird that she doesn't, but she's never needed one, cause everyone else has always had them. Maybe she could find Tobe and use his? Oh! and where Tobe is... Garu usually is, cause Tobe is as obsessed with Garu as she is!

So now she's jumping up to look on top of the fridge and in upper cabinets for hiding ninjas.

[Okay, that's--that's a little weird. Link popped a bit of onion into his mouth.]

Weird.

[Link hadn't actually meant to say it out-loud, but....]

She is not weird, she is looking for ninjas!

She made an angry sound and punched the cabinet in frustration. The door snapped in half and fell at her feet. Feeling a bit better, she went back to searching.

[If you find them when they don't want to be found, they're pretty lousy ninjas. Ask him about his ninja-princess someday.

Link ate a bit of red pepper, eyebrows going up at the destruction of the door.

While Pucca continued looking for ninjas, Link took his Ocarina out and played a short lullaby. The destroyed bits of door floated back into place before repairing itself with a soft 'click'.]

Oh, she'd agree completely that Tobe and his crew are bad ninjas. They're the joke of Sooga Village. But even f they were good at it... she's from a ninja village, and she loves hide and seek. Garu is a GREAT ninja (in training) and she can always find him!

But no ninjas here. That was weird. She sat down on the floor, not even noticing the fixed door. She wanted her uncles. She wanted Garu. As her stomach growled, she realized that she was really hungry. Tears slid down her face as she started to cry silently.

She wanted to go home.

[Link knew that feeling. Or he had when he first started his journey, and once again when he had been knee deep in poison water in Termina.]

S'okay. I'll make something. You can just sit, okay?

[Rice and veggies it was.]

She nodded, but she was still crying. She wanted home. She pulled her bag into her lap and pulled out her Garu plushie. One arm had clearly been sliced off and sewn back on at some point. She held onto it like the kid she was, crying into plush Garu's hood.

[Link found a clean glass and some fresh milk in the fridge and poured the girl a glass, before hurrying to finish the rice and vegetables, trying to make certain he didn't overcook the rice.]

S'okay to cry, if you wanna.

But, you really are okay here. There's lots of a good grownups who would take you in if you want. Besides the Doctor, there's Jane, and Mr. V, and--I bet you could have your pick.

You're also allowed to live alone if you wanna.

Live alone?! She doesn't want to live alone! she wants her uncles! She loves her uncles! And they take care of her! Sure, she could run around the world stopping Tobe from hurting Garu, and fix the leaning tower and rope the moon....but she's still a little girl! She wants someone to make her noodles and tuck her in at night, and sing her lullabies and read her stories and fix her dolls when they break.....

Once he says live alone, she looks downright horrified and scared, and the tears just get worse.

[Link blinked in surprise.]

Wh--you don't have to live alone. It's just if you want to.

[Those things Pucca wanted were as foreign to Link as the electric lights in the kitchen.]

Maybe I should find one of the adults for you, after lunch. Maybe Irene....

She sniffed and scooted along the floor until she was closer. Then she glomped onto one of his legs with one arm, the plushie with the other. She didn't like this place!

Evil ninjas? She could do that! Fighting big monsters? She could do that! Befriending scary monsters? Check! But a place without her uncles and without Garu? And without her friends? Nope. Little kid mode activated.

[Link reached down and tried to give her a reassuring pat on the head.]

You got a family back home, huh.

My friend Asriel did too. He went back home and stayed. So--you don't have to stay here forever.

[He dished some rice and vegetables onto a plate and offered it to her.]

She sniffled and let go of him so she could take the bowl, and looked at him, questioningly.

[He felt a bit at a loss, so he just kept talking.]

Kenny went back home too. He was another kid who was my friend here. They stayed here for a bit and then went home again.

Me? I don't want to go back home yet. I mean, I know I have to someday, because, Hyrule will need me. But, for right now, I'm happy here. My Zelda's here and Shadow's here and Clef decided to adopt me, and people are nice here.

She ate while she listened to him, finishing quickly, then holding out the bowl for more.

She didn't care if she was here or home, so long as home was here if she was here. She would be fine with Sooga village appearing with all her friends wherever this was. Weirder things have happened.

[Link used the bowl to scoop and refill. Actual utensils were needlessly complicated.]

It's not a bad place. It's not Hyrule, but...I still like it.

[It was hard not to miss it.]
