Looking almost past the boy with the musical instrument he reluctantly, and quite darkly, answered.
"No, she would not be here."
He couldn't sense Emeraude's presence... but then he couldn't sense the boy either and he was clearly sitting there. Loathe though he was for idle conversation when he was brooding over events that sadly had been beyond his control a new sensation arose, prompting him to further this conversation.
"Is magic unknown here?"
Some how it felt like his powers were gone. Was that a result of his failed battle with the Magic Knights?

Link studied him for a minute.
"It takes a bit."

Seized as if by a sharp pain Zagato suddenly stumbled forward and gritting his teeth he clutched as his chest.
"It seems the Magic Knights struck true after all."
He spoke to himself mostly. After all the boy over there would have no idea who the Magic Knights were, they were from another world.
no subject
"What's your name, Mister?"
Yeah, better let Clef know about this.
no subject
"Zagato."

at the time he'd envisioned someone on par with Ganondorf. And right now, this man, whatever his sins, was weakened and not even attempting to hide it. And that made Link hesitate in leaving. Power--was not this man's vice.
"Are you okay?"
no subject
"I was in a battle before I arrived here."
Where ever here was. All he knew at the moment was, "There was a strange voice which pulled me away from my death."
Or right before his death, anyway he highly doubted he would have survived that final attack if it hadn't been for that voice.
no subject
"That happens more often than you'd think in this city. Not to everyone, but, a lot of people who come to Nautilus go through that...I'm sorry."
He put his ocarina into his tunic and hopped off the bench, offering the man a hand. "If you want help...I can get you to a Welcome House. If you want medical attention, I know where a few healers are."
no subject
"I will walk on my own."
If his actions came off as entirely ungrateful that was unfortunate, as that was the exact opposite of what he felt. The boy's help was very appreciated and his suggestion about the healers would be an appropriate goal to work towards. Zagato had no idea what he might face on this new world.
"If you will lead the way I will follow."
Shakily and on uncertain footing but he would.
no subject
"I'll send you a guide to read later. But, I'll tell you the basic stuff while we walk. No one uses money here. Everything is free. Which is kinda weird, and I miss finding rupees, but, I guess it's pretty fair.
People from your world can show up, but, they're not always from the same time as you. There's three of us from Hyrule, and none of us are from the same exact moment."
no subject
Really he should have asked the man's name but his statement about people from your world 'showing up' easily distracted him. The man in green had several people from his world appear on this one. Then that meant...
"Are there others here from a world called Cephiro?"
no subject
If the man had been just a little smaller, he would have called for Epona. Or if his horse were just a little bigger.
"It's not too much further."
no subject
He should have perhaps felt some pang of anger over hearing the name of that world but there was nothing. The Magic Knights were doing what they were meant to do... likely killing the one he loved enough to destroy a planet to protect. His eyes grew shadowed again but he carried on, following Link as he had been doing before, since... he couldn’t summon a creature to help him out either.
“How did you hear of Cephiro?”
no subject
Link chose his words carefully.
"I'm an orphan back in Hyrule. And even though I'm a...hero, I'm still technically a kid too. So, I've been adopted here, and I heard about your world through my adoptive father."
They were luckily right outside the medical facility.
no subject
"Your father..."
Was some one from Cephiro? Who?? He had to ask but it took a few good deep breaths of air to collect himself enough to be able to do so.
"What is your father's name?"
DW ate my reply...
"Clef."
Link sighed. "And he wouldn't be thrilled to know that I've taken you to a hospital. But--" he held up a hand, ticking off reasons for his actions. "One, you're hurt. Two, it's my duty to help people who need help. And three---you've just arrived here in the city unarmed and without whatever powers you might've had back home. The right thing to do is to help."
He knew he was going to be in some moderate to severe guano when Clef did find out about this. Truthfully, he was a little conflicted on the matter, but, Link believed doing the right thing was more important.
It has been doing that occassionally
As he had spoken to the boy a certain rising dread had crept into his thoughts and now he knew why. His last meeting with the diminutive mage had not gone particularly well… for his old teacher. The result of their battle had left Clef as a stone statue unable to interfere in what was to come.
“So he managed to escape Cephiro and flee here.”
Zagato smirked. As it turned out he might have underestimated Clef just a touch. Lurching forward he reached for the door to the hospital thinking with this revelation he could no longer count on Link’s aide. He was helping the sworn enemy of his adopted father…
“I will not tell him you aided me.”
Really what would be the point in it anyway? Zagaro had taken actions that had set nearly the whole of Cephiro against him, but overall he wasn’t a particularly vindictive man. He just wanted to see his Princess safe.
obnoxious habit
Link automatically helped with the door, seeing the other struggle.
"Oh, I'll tell him myself. There's no need to lie. When someone needs help, they need help. It's not...it's not my fight."
Really is.
"He is your father."
That was a very curious attitude to take but Zagato accepted the boy's continued help as from some reason that darn handle was giving him a bit more trouble than it should have been.
"To most people that would make it your fight regardless of anything else."
no subject
Link trailed off for a moment.
"I'm probably a lousy son, but, I'm a decent hero. I think I warned him about that when he chose to adopt me. Anyway...as long as you don't go looking for him, you and I don't have any issue."
no subject
"I have no reason to look for him."
It's not as if their reunion would be a happy one and realistically if Clef were here then he could not be assisting the Magic Knights back on Cephiro. Zagato would not search out his former teacher but... would Clef feel the same way once the boy mentioned his arrival?
