"You met Link? And he didn't tell me? Or invite you in?" Hmmmm. "Yeah, Link is my boy," so much paternal pride there. "I'm hoping you can help him figure out how to NOT get himself killed for fun." and he might be hoping your scars will spook the kid. Sorry, Ferio.

"But as long as you are here, Ferio, you have a home and a family."

You met Link? And he didn't tell me? Or invite you in?

Uh... about that. Link might have been under the impression Ferio was some one else. What had the story been? A woodcutter from the Forest of Silence? Anyone from Cephiro would have realized how impossible that story was but it had fooled the kid. So... it wasn't really Link's fault his manners had slipped. He was setup!

"I'm sure he was going to but we ended up going out to get some food and to meet a few pirates."

And even after that he had still been hungry! It had been a long journey to make it here!

But a home and a family Clef had said. Ferio smiled despite the confusion. That would actually be very nice, finding he actually belonged some where...

Ferio sucked in a deep breath. He could continue the lies and pretend that he understood everything Clef had said to him but that felt too much like taking advantage of the guy's good nature.

"Look I'm sorry Master Mage Clef. You've been really kind to me and the idea of having a home and a family to goo back to is a nice dream but... I'm just an orphan. I never had a sister. I have always been on my own, looking out for myself. I can help you look around you the guy you were waiting for but I can't take his place."

"Pirates?" So much confusion.

Then he gave him an odd look. "Ferio...?" He shook his head. It was too soon for another storm. "Ferio, I've met your parents, I've taught you and your sister at the same time. When you requested that we just call you Ferio, rather than Prince Ferio, I supported that. I know this place can alter memories, but not usually upon arrival.... Ferio, I assure you, I've known you since you were younger than Link. I'd know you anywhere."

"Big guys, with eye patches?"

Ok these were his first pirates but maybe the eye patch was a theme with them?

As Clef spoke about this wonderful family he had that he didn't know about Ferio reached around to his back pocket and pulled out an ornate egg-shaped object. They had been a pair but he had given one to Fuu and... lied to her... calling it a wishing stone when really it was more of a communications device. It was far too expense a thing for a little orphan boy to have and yet... They were important. He couldn't remember why until Clef called him Prince Ferio.

Time stopped as his breath caught in his throat.

"I remember! Princess Emeraude is my sister! That's why... when I learned she was in danger I had to go help her. I couldn't get her out of my thoughts!"

Almost helpless, like the child Clef had helped to raise, Ferio looked to the Mage like a whole new world had appeared to him.

"When Emeraude became the Pillar I had her erase my memory! It would have been too difficult knowing she was my sister but that we could never seen each other again... I thought it would be better to forget."

"You.... erased...." The pirates didn't matter. "Ferio...." he whispered, then shook his head. "You have seen her since... you just... tended to chose to spend your time in the woods, or so I thought.... HAd... Had Zagato told you that you weren't allowed to see her any more?" he asked, alarmed. Had Zagato been why Ferio never stayed around the castle? Why the boy was always so driven into more and more dangerous training? How long.... how long had Zagato been lying to them all?

"Zagato!"

This name was nearly a curse as Ferio found a hatred for the man welling up inside him.

"He was the one who kidnapped Princess Emeraude!"

But this feeling was nearly as quickly dulled by Clef's confusion. Ferio found himself blinking and once more looking at Clef like he was a stranger even though memories of him were beginning to trickle back into the forefront of Ferio's mind too. It seemed the seal that had been placed on his memory was well and truly broken now that he was in this new land.

"But Clef, you know as well as I do that the Pillar of Cephiro has to devote all her time to prayer. It's the way things are. Zagato," he still nearly spit this name as he said it, "didn't have to tell me that, Emeraude did once she was chosen to be the Pillar and I was the one who decided to have my memory erased. You... really didn't know about this?"

"Of course I didn't know about this!" He was going to kill Zagato if he ever showed up. No, killing was temporary, he'd have to find a more permanent answer. If Jane were still here he'd ask her if she knew a good sun they could imprison him inside of...

And she could still walk around, and spend a little time with us, she loved walking in the gardens! With us! We all took turns to check on her every day, sit with her for a while!" Had Ferio though he couldn't...and wasn't taking his turns? They could have been together......
