As soon as Pinocchio mentions robots, his eyes light up - thankfully, not literally for once. Robots are great! Beaker's worked with robots before! Though, usually they've tried to physically harm him in one way or another, but he's a pretty durable Muppet.
"Oooh! Robots," he echoes. He claps his hands together and gives Pinocchio a thumbs up. "Meep meemeep meep mee Moocter Heemeemoo, meep meemeep meemeep meep meep!"
Even if their robots didn't always work, he still had tons of fun working on them with Dr. Honeydew. He's glad a boy like Pinocchio has taken an interest in technology at such a young age! Good for him.

Finally, some more gestures he understands. He returns the thumbs-up enthusiastically, beaming. At least they have some common ground, here.
"You work with robots, too? That's great! There's a bunch of scientists in the city, you'd probably like them a lot."
Even if most of them aren't incredibly social. Then again, Beaker seems kinda shy-- that or he's just really quiet.
no subject
listen muppets don't know they're being puppeteered"Ooooh!" He'd definitely like to meet some of these scientists eventually. I mean, it's not like he really does any science, himself, but it'd be helpful in finding out where he is. Of course, there's always the possibility that they wouldn't understand him, either.
As they walk, he points to a random building and asks, "Meemee meep?"
no subject
They must have crossed from the East into the South already, because he does recognize that building (to be fair, it's both very distinct and very difficult to miss, given that it looks like some sort of manor).
"That's the school. It's kinda boring." A beat. "...Actually, a lot of the South is kinda boring. It's just got a lot of trees. But the swamp is cool."
He's beginning to think he's a bigger fan of large cities, honestly.

What the HECK is this boy doing out of school? No wonder he can't read. Yet another failure of today's education system. Maybe he could help this boy out--wait, that would be difficult with his...speech mannerisms.
"Meep? Meemeep meemeep."
Does Pinocchio even have any friends? He's not entirely sure, but he's gonna ask.
no subject
"I dunno if there's even that many teachers at the school, but that's alright. I'm taking lessons from a few people, anyways."
He... doesn't necessarily have any friends his age, yet. Connie is as close as it gets, and he still considers her pretty old. But he's sure willing to tell Beaker all about everybody else he knows.
"Like, Azmuth teaches me math and science, and Jiminy teaches me... uh, everything else, 'cause that's his job. I don't think Taako teaches anything, but I've talked to him a few times, and he cooks stuff a lot." That's only a few, really, but it's a big city and he's not about to list off everyone he's ever talked to.
He finally turns back to Beaker and gives him a once-over. "Hm... sorry, but I don't think any of your friends are here. I haven't seen anyone that looks like you do yet. But they might show up soon."
no subject
"Oh. Meemee meep." He hopes he'll at least be able to contact his friends eventually? He's quite worried, tomorrow he's supposed to give a presentation with Bunsen on Muppet Lab's latest creation: the automated toilet paper delivery robot.
"Meep, meepmeep meep meemeep." It would be nice if he could grab something to eat. He looks at Pinocchio quizzically. Do wooden puppets even need to eat?
He poses this question to him. "Meemee meep meemeep mee meep?"
no subject
Yeah, good luck getting to that presentation on time. Or contacting anybody outside of the city. Then again, apparently there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving... but he doesn't want to put the idea of going back through the gates into Beaker's head so soon after he just arrived. It'd be sad if he didn't even give Nautilus a chance before leaving for ages.
...Do felt puppets even need to eat? Hmm??
He squints quizically at Beaker for a long moment. He feels like he's close to figuring out what he's saying, somehow, but he can't be certain. He can narrow it down, at least, and just decides he can puzzle it out in the form of a question. At the very least, Beaker's tone isn't too distressed, so he can eliminate 'hospital' from one of the possible locations he's looking for.
"D'you want to find food, clothes, or a house?" Pause. "Um, you can just... hold up your fingers for which answer is right."
no subject
Oh. Time to break out the advanced charades. Well, he certainly has clothes right now, but maybe if he ends up staying longer than intends he'll need more. And he's not looking into real estate at this time, the lease on his apartment hasn't expired yet. So he holds up one finger and meeps. Just to make sure Pinocchio gets it, he mimes eating food and makes munching noises.
If anything, he'd like a nice bottle of wine or something to help him deal with being in a weird place like this. Nothing's wrong with a little alcohol consumption.
no subject
Okay, that at least gives him something to work with. He thinks it over for another second before posing a more specific question.
"Do you want to go to the market, and get your own food-" he holds up one finger, "-or go to a restaurant?" This time he holds up two fingers.
no subject
Well, hm. He doesn't know if he's on an alien planet or something, so who knows what kind of food they might serve at a restaurant? Then again, Pinocchio knows this place better than he does, so he probably has recommendations. Hopefully.
"Moo." He holds up two fingers. Food is definitely something he can use to try and deduce his location. Uh, that is, if he's still on Earth.
no subject
"I guess we've gotta go back to the East, then." Not that he minds the walk-- at least he knows the way pretty well by now.
He's kind of silent (for once) as they're walking this time, though, until finally he literally just stops short and turns on a heel. He'd been internally dying to ask a few questions, but didn't want to be rude, but... well, he could only hold out so long. He just can't rationalize this one out, not under these circumstances.
"Hey, did you say you're a Muppet? Is that like a puppet? 'Cause I'm a puppet, too, and I don't think I have to eat. So what's the difference? I mean, I know you're not made of wood, but you still aren't real or anything."
no subject
Hm.
Wow those sure are some questions huh!
He scratches the side of head, trying to mull over Pinocchio's question. I mean, he guesses he's a puppet? He's definitely not a person person. But there's a difference between a Muppet and a puppet, Kermit probably said something about it, right? He's definitely eaten food and drank things, so he thinks he probably has to eat to survive. Right? But then again, he's been blown up more times than he can count, and it should be impossible for someone to survive that sort of constant abuse. But that might just be because he's a Muppet. And it sure is weird that the Swedish Chef has non-felt hands unlike everyone else, but he had figured it was just a quirk? All Muppets are different, after all.
His head hurts just thinking about this. He tries to formulate an answer, but all that comes out is a slightly squeakier than usual "Meep."
Existential questions aren't really great for Beaker.
no subject
And he doesn't exactly know how to handle a response like that. Or, rather, a non-response. Maybe he'll just... drop it. Yeah, that's probably for the best.
He turns back around awkwardly. "Um... right, sorry. I guess we should just go get that food now, huh?"
no subject
If he ever gets the chance to go back, he's going to bring this up with Kermit. He's the boss, he probably has more answers, right?
They keep walking for some time in silence, and Beaker resorts to twiddling his thumbs. Whenever he looks at any signs, it feels like...he's not exactly reading it, but the sign itself is conveying what it means? Best not to look at anything.
He somewhat recognizes when they leave the Southern District (since they took the same route, more or less) and quietly says, "East."
