She just grins as he grabs her hand and is more than willing to let him lead her away from whatever was exploding. Of course, the moment he tries to shove her behind a wall, she was pulling him with her just as the debris field from the blast rockets past them.
Once River's sure that the explosion is over with, she lets him go and smirks.
"Now care to tell me what that was? I'm all for a good explosion and handsome company, but, usually it's followed by quite a bit of running in the aftermath and I'd very much like to know what I'm running from if that's the case."

"Ah. Well, hopefully after that there isn't much left to run from but..." He flashed her a wide smile and peered around the edge of the wall. "Thank you, by the way. I don't think that would have been rather pleasant."
"As for what happened... I was working on some rather delicate materials in what I thought was a safe location but it turns out the vibrations attracted the attention of some of the local wildlife and unfortunately I wasn't able to reason with them. I'd have left if I'd known but after a few of them damaged it, there wasn't much time." He sighed, sounding rather sorry about the way it had all ended.
"Still, I imagine it could have gone much worse--" And as he spoke, there was a shift from inside the building and the remains of the door bursts open as a swarm of giant spiders surge out and towards them. Eight brightened immediately. "Oh! Survivors!"

She smirked faintly at the sight of the large chunk of metal as it buried itself where he used to be and then turned her attention back to him. "You're very welcome."
Now for the reason for the explosion... River really wasn't surprised by his explanation and in fact was just shaking her head a bit. Typical.... and then he had to utter that one phase which always herald trouble no matter who uttered it.
"Friends of yours? They don't look happy to see you in the slightest. In fact, I think this might be the part where we start running, don't you agree?"

"I rather riled them up it seems and I imagine they're just trying to protect themselves." Although perhaps at this point it had gone from protection to outright hunting, since there were rather a lot of them.
Still, he couldn't deny the flush of delight at running and the excitement that set his hearts beating, and he laughed as he glanced over at his newfound companion. "Sorry, I don't believe I've introduced myself, have I? I'm the Doctor, one of four here I'm afraid, lovely to meet you!"
no subject
"The pleasure's all mine! You say there's four of you here? That must make for some interesting adventures."

"You know what they say about being your own worst enemy! It's surprisingly true I've found, although we've managed with varying degrees depending on which of us is involved."
While losing their pursuers was a good idea when it came to humanoids, the spiders were having rather less trouble with keeping up, scurrying easily over walls and up the sides of buildings to jump down below, cutting off one option for escape and driving them another way.
"Do you get the feeling that they're herding us?"
no subject
Regardless she was noticing their little issue with the spiders and smirking slightly. "Most likely they are. Now the question is, to where? I'd imagine no where beneficial to keeping us alive."
Another corner turned and more spiders in sight... River was loving it. "You wouldn't happen to have any weapons on you? We might have to fight them off if this keeps up."
