Agatha poked her head out of the smoke issuing from the tower's door. The tower was impressive for its size alone. Beside it was a work table, and to either side of the door was what looked like a metal ornamental reindeer. Both reindeer had seemed like statues, stock still, watching River's approach. Once Agatha came out, however, one of them turned to look at her.

"Hello," Agatha said to River. "Sorry about the noise, did it bother you? I was just making a cake." And sure enough along with the ash, soot, and motor oil all over her face and dress...was flower and brown sugar.

" Why would explosions bother me? They usually come with all sort of fun trouble and a bit of running." Depending on the situation. But, judging on what the woman said and the state of her clothea, River felt like this probably would be the case... then again, one never could tell untill they were in the thick of it.

" but i have to ask, what kind of cake recipe calls for motor oil?"

She grinned a bit. Already this woman seemed more sensible than anyone else she had met here. "Oh not for the cake itself, I was trying to build myself an oven to bake it in. Got halfway through mixing the dough and realized I didn't have an oven. I know the basics of convection of course, and I've assembled any number of heating elements, so it should be simple enough, but I managed to accidentally weld an input pipe into the pressurized cutlery propulsion engine...."

Yes, she was weaponizing her oven. As she built it from scratch .

She weaponized an oven she was building from scratch. River had a feeling the two of them were going to get along rather well! " That sounds lile quite the mistake to fix. Let me guess, pressure built up until the engine couldn't take it anymore and it exploded?"

Already she was smirking. " I hope it wasnt fully loaded at the time. "

"It... might have been loaded with the experimental exploding knives I was developing last night." Small shrug. "In the plus side, I had the gas I was working on for the heating system on another floor entirely. She considered her. "Spark, scientist, minion, adventurer, scholar?" Probably some mix therein. So long as she wasn't a hero, they'd get along fine.

River smiled at the question as as she gave her own answer. "Time Traveling Archeologist from the future actually."

So, perhaps a bit of Scientist, Adventurer and Scholar mixed together. Either way, her life was never boring.

"Time traveling....." Her eye swent huge, then she grabbed River by the arms, moving swiftly and with surprising speed, kissed her on the lips, swing around happily once and set her back down, eyes dancing. "Perfect! I need your help. You're exactly what my city needs. Please say you'll help!"

Also not boring, being around Agatha for any length of time. And she is completely unaware that she just acted... oddly...

That was not the usual response River got when she mentioned her profession. Far from it actually... So she was definitely a bit surprised at the kiss even if she didn't seem to mind in the slightest.

"Why Hello to you to. First, what do you mean? I just got here so how can I bee exactly what this city needs?"

She's not saying no, but, she's not saying yes either. Not until she hears more about why she got such an interesting reaction out of her newest acquaintance.

"What? Oh. Not this city. I'm from Mechanicsburg. Someone came into my town and set iff a time bomb, Whole town is time locked. I went to Paris to try to find Doctor Zardeliv, since he's the foremost expert on time and temporal anomalies, when I wound up here instead. I met two men both claiming to be the doctor, but from another universe, neither really much help, and one of them threatened me after giving me an idea how to proceed...." She was still irritated by that. She shook her head. "But if you actually travel through time, you can help! I mean, I have Van Rjin's notes on Prende's Lantern and the Muse of Time, but it's been slow going getting through it all."

Someone was over the moon excited.

"But now you're here and you can HELP!"

Even with her experience with strange and unusual circumstances, she was finding herself both amused and surprised at the explanation. However, the mentioning of two men claiming to be The Doctor is what caught her attention the most.

"As exciting as that sounds, You mentioned two men both claiming to be The Doctor?"

"YEs, and neither of them look the least bit like Violetta's family, though I know that doesn't always mean anything."

That got a curious look at least. "Not going to ask. However, Can you tell me what they look like? This is rather important for me to know."

She felt like they were getting off topic, but alright. "One of them looked at first like a rather foppish bird." Maybe he was related to Tarvek after all. "Like a construct more than a natural bird, anyway. Large enough to take me flying. Then as a person shaped person, little on the short and narrow side," Might be worth noting Agatha is a little on the tall and broad side, though she's fairly average, even small, for her world. "Brown hair that sticks up worse than mine. Other had short hair, kind of biggish ears, and moved like he was ticked off. Or had a stomach ache. Kind of hard to tell which. Harmonics just outside of Spark range."

That depended on whose topic they were following. River viewed it as getting on the only topic that mattered at the moment. The rest of was secondary.

"...Out of the four of them, only two of them sound familiar. Though, I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about when you say 'Spark'."

"Oh, no, that was just two people, sorry is I wasn't clear. Sparks..." She sighed a bit. Why was no one here from home? Well, except the reindeer, her dingbots, and her weasel...

"Sparks are people like me. And among other things.. out voice harmonics enter what are known as command ranges. Honestly, Tarvek studied this more than I have, all things considered. Actually when he's done dying, I'd kind of love to see his notes, given what Avenka managed toi do my duplicating the command harmonics in my voice. Anyway, all Sparks have a command range, but how strong it is, and how wide depends on the Spark. When working in command ranges, it's easier to get people to obey you. Of course, there are whole fields of study on what makes someone more or less likely to obey a given Spark, or at all. Most often, Sparks are immune to command ranges of other Sparks, but... not always. It's actually a fascinating field for anyone interested in biology, new discoveries are being made constantly. I've always been a bit more focused mechanically, but having seen command harmonics utilized by a a clank body... I have to wonder about the applications in clanks where the original software was not actually a living mind. But that also requires Tarvek's notes, since it's not like Avenka is likely to let me reverse engineer her..."

River was listening... and rather interested more she heard about the woman's world. It sounded very unique and certainly fun by her standards. Perhaps if she ever got out of here...

"So, let me see if I understand. Sparks operate on a voice harmonic that's different from a standard humans and can usually get people to follow their commands with that ability, correct? Or am I missing something?"

"More or less. It's not really something most of us do intentionally. It just happens when we're in a fugue state, what is more commonly known as the madness place. But sometimes just extreme emotions can trigger it." Which... might me another reason the locket kept her from feeling any for so long....
