Wait, we've... met before?
[arms crossed, he thinks it over, running through every world he's seen thus far, every face he remembers, all the way back to the islands. but nothing's ringing any bells.]
...Sorry. I guess I don't remember. That's weird...
[the last part is muttered to himself as he furrows his brow, looking towards the ground. Sora's not sure he'd claim to have the best memory, but he doesn't think he'd just up and forget someone like that.]
no subject
[But if Sora really doesn't recognize him, or hasn't met him yet, then who was Roxas to blame him for not knowing who he was? Perhaps, for now, it might just be easier to roll with it, act like this was their first meeting?]
[Maybe... maybe this won't be so bad. He shakes his head, offering a small smile.]
It's alright. Maybe I'm just imagining things. [And after a short pause, he decides to change the subject.] So, this place is called Nautilus?
no subject
[though he still sounds doubtful. he knows that time in Nautilus is strange, but he hasn't asked around enough to know if people can be brought into the city from different times, too. maybe he should ask about that... but he's not going to dwell on it right now. it's his time first meeting this person, one way or another, so he can make the most of it.
he shrugs it all off, a smile leaping back onto his face after he's sorted out his own thoughts.] In that case, it's nice to meet you, uh-- [he pauses, slightly sheepish.] --I guess I don't remember your name, either.
But, yeah! It's sortaaa... hmm. [it's hard to explain, now that he thinks about it.] It's like this place where people from a bunch of other worlds can meet. Nautilus is the name of the voice that called you here.
no subject
Right... I'm Roxas. [He listens to the explanation, though hums in confusion.] The voice that called us here? So... everyone here is from a different world? But why?
no subject
[and he sincerely means it-- he still doesn't know if this is somebody he should remember or not, but the fact that he might not just means he has to try that much harder to make new memories. the enthusiastic smile turns into a more thoughtful look at the questions, though, and he tries to remember what he's memorized from the welcome guide (it's not very much).]
And not everybody's from a different one, some people come here from the same world. But I-- I dunno how that works. Nobody's come here from my world yet.
[he takes a sideways glance at the gate as he says it, as if even mentioning them will bring them through, but then he drags his gaze back over towards Roxas after a brief moment of quiet.]
But we're here to help fix other worlds. It's complicated bending stuff. [he laughs slightly, even though he's moderately embarrassed that he can't explain it much better than that. his own bending's hardly enough to make toy swords to fight with, let alone worry about Ascending.] I... haven't really gotten there yet.
no subject
[Roxas can feel that sincerity from Sora, and it makes him genuinely smile. He never really got to spend much time with Sora; the only times he ever interacted with him in person was either while Sora was in stasis or in combat, so actually speaking so candidly with Sora like this? It's... oddly nice.]
Rally? [So that meant no one that Sora knew was here... then he was the first one to arrive after Sora. He was a little disappointed to hear that, but perhaps it was for the best.]
What do you mean, fix other worlds? And, bending?
no subject
[he doesn't know the specifics. they're called flaws, he thinks, but he doesn't know if that specific term is important... that stuff is all beyond him, so he shrugs it off readily enough. then again, it's not that different from what he did before-- helping the other worlds. but the Ascended stuff gets complicated.
it's easier to explain bending, but his eyes light up halfway through the explanation-- he can talk if he has to, of course, but it's so much cooler to just show people.]
And bending is... here, it's easier if I show you! Quick, name something that'd probably be really easy to make. Something you see and use all the time.
no subject
[Now bending... seeing Sora’s eyes light up at the mention of bending makes it seem like an exciting topic for the boy. The sudden question does make him jolt a bit.]
Uh... [Somethjng he sees and uses all the tim? Without really thinking, he speaks.] How about a Keyblade?
no subject
[not that Nautilus seems very talkative. then again, Sora's never thought to find out if there is a way to talk to Nautilus. he's not sure if people can get lonely when they've turned into cities-- or whatever happened here, he doesn't really get how all of that works-- but maybe it's something he should look into anyways. but not at the moment, of course, he's got a different task to focus on.]
A Keyblade? Sure, that's easy!
[the very first thing he'd tried to bend back had been the Keyblade, after all. he was used to it and he knew exactly what it looked like and how it was supposed to work, which made for easy bending (relatively speaking, anyways). he's got a confidence about him at first, but then he stops short, thinking about it for half a second before furrowing his brows in confusion and looking to Roxas.]
Wait... how do you know about the Keyblade?
[while he doesn't think it's exactly secret knowledge or anything, it's not common knowledge, either-- he's not so much suspicious as he is just curious. he guesses that would probably mean he has met Roxas before, right? that or the King-- he'd had one, too... maybe there were just more Keyblades than he knew about, but that's a weird thought to consider.]
no subject
[Ah, of course, he was expecting such a question even when he suggested bending a Keyblade. However, does he want to let Sora know that he knows of it because he's a part of Sora? Should he be the one to explain that to him? Would such a thing even matter if he's, by all intents and purposes, his own person right now?]
[He hesitates, before deciding that, no, simple is better. At least for now; until he can get his own bearings, and be more comfortable around Sora and see how he reacts to things. Until he feels ready. So, reaching up to scratch at the back of his head, he shrugs.]
Well, I can use one too.
no subject
[he... doesn't elaborate any more than that. sorry, Roxas. the living city information got old once he realized that Nautilus doesn't actually talk to anybody that much. hearing about the Keyblade (blades? plural?) is always going to be a more interesting topic in Sora's eyes.]
Really? You can? [huh!] I've never met anybody else who could-- except for Riku... oh yeah, and the King... hm.
[he trails off, realizing he's not really making much of a point when he keeps listing people like that. strange as it is to consider, it's vaguely exciting, too. but he figures he's getting slightly distracted from what he was talking about in the first place-- the whole bending thing.]
Well, hey, you'll have to show me once you figure out how to bend it back!
no subject
[He says it more in disbelief than anything. Well... different worlds operated under different rules, didn't they? So if that's what this world was like, then... yeah. He'd have to take some time to puzzle it all out.]
Yeah, I can. [Though, Roxas does have to flinch a bit when Sora brings up Riku. That... isn't a happy memory of his, especially when most of their brief contact was more conflict.]
Sure, if you can show me how to do it. [Stay on target, Sora. But Roxas says the words with a small smile.]
no subject
[not that that's so important to get into at the moment.]
And of course I can show you! I mean... I can explain it, anyways. Bending doesn't look that different than just using it normally.
[as if he's trying to illustrate the point, he holds his hand out and closes his eyes. it takes longer than summoning the Keyblade normally does, because he's still not great at it, but after a while of what looks like deep thinking from Sora, it just manifests in his grip out of nowhere.]
See? You just have to think about what you want and then focus on it.
[it's the focusing that's the hard part. deconstructing an object down to its components, thinking of what it feels like... it's hard with the bigger stuff.]
But you have to know it really well. That's why I can summon the Keyblade or sand or something, but I'm not as good at making some other stuff.
no subject
[But that's something he can worry about later, once he's settled in and had a chance to process everything.]
[He watches as Sora focuses, and in a flash, the Keyblade appears in his hands. He gasped, marveled by the sight, and he considered Sora's words. Had to know it really well, huh? He knew the Keyblade, sure, but he hadn't really thought too hard about it; it had always just sort of been. He might need to practice it a bit.]
So I can create anything, so long as I know it really well?
no subject
[he figured the Keyblade had ended up being easier because... well, because he didn't really need to know specifically what it was made of, just how it worked. it was a feeling, maybe more like an ability, or at least way more than it was just an item.]
It gets easier the more you make stuff, though. Then you don't have to think about it as much.
no subject
[It's interesting... and it has him curious. This was a magic he'd never heard of, even during his time in the Organization.]
I wouldn't mind trying to practice it sometime. I mean, if I'm going to be stuck here.
im so sorry this got completely lost in my inbox somehow
[if Sora 'lack-of-focus' Lastname can manage it than anybody can learn, he thinks. he knows he wasn't a good Bending student at all when he first showed up but, hey, even he managed it. Roxas can't do that badly.]
You have to learn Bending to leave, anyways.
No worries! Also this is probably not how Bending works but taking liberties for the meme lol
[Learning Bending was required to leave? Well, that was all the more reason to learn it... Or, well, if he decided to even want to leave in the first place.]
[He knew how important it was to be a part of Sora, but... well, this was sort of a chance to get to be himself, wasn't it?]
[Though, as he listens to Sora's instructions, he can't help but let his mind wander. Something he knew really well, huh? And food was hard, which made sense since you really needed to know what it was made of to create it. But maybe if he went simple? The Keyblade he figured would take time, but what else did he really know? He took a moment to close his eyes. Something simple, like... Olette's munny pouch? Or maybe one of the orbs from the Struggle trophy. That would be pretty simple; a blue glass orb, roughly big enough to fit in his palm...]
[The sudden small flash surprises him, and his eyes snap open as he almost drops the small, blue orb that has just appeared in his hand.]
