"I see," Pearl said, glancing down. She'd heard humans - and other species, though not Gems - entertain theories of some sort of multi-dimensional existence before, but... How could she be sure about time not passing at the same rate back home?

The truth, she realized right away, was that she couldn't be. But all the same, she'd have to find some level of comfort in taking what she was being told as fact.

"Nautilus," she repeated softly, before looking up at Ten again. "And you're sure of all that?"

"Yuuuuupp. Been here two years myself. Been back once already." Gives her a reassuring smile.

"They'll be fine. Trust me."

Pearl nodded. She certainly wanted to trust him, at least.

"Thank you for the information. May I ask your name?"

[borntolove]

"The Doctor. Doctor Bad Wolf. Yours?"

Has she noticed? How Ten doesn't stare on how she's not human.

"I- I beg your pardon?"

Normally, Pearl would have been better at adding things up. Far better. The not-quite-human quality to Ten's eyes, his lack of reaction to her being an alien, the relaxed way he talked about a multiverse... It all should have made sense to her. But her mind was too clouded just then, with worry for Steven.

As it stood, the name he offered just sounded like the babbling of a madman. Still... Manners were to be observed.

"Oh. My name is Pearl."

Ten clicks his tongue; "Doctor Bad Wolf or 'Ten' will do." Considering, there are four other versions of The Doctor here.

"Penny for your thoughts, Pearl?"

"...Ten, in that case" she decided after a moment. Some humans did go by odd names, after all. It wasn't as if "Universe" had been Greg's original surname, and all that, so perhaps this man just had unusual nicknames.

Speaking of unusual... There was a very human turn of phrase, penny for your thoughts. And, as she so often did, Pearl took it literally.

"Well... I probably will need money if I'll be here a while, although I don't think it makes sense to charge you to hear my thoughts."

"No, money system here." Which is fine by The Doctor's thought process as he doesn't really understand the concept of money.

"And that's just an idiom; coined by Sir Thomas More in one of his books. And I agree, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense at all with how humans charge each other for things and yet thar so clever aren't they? Even when they create the most senseless things.. Ahh. Thar so clever. Not to say they don't have thar faults." A pause;
"Would like to talk more on what's your mind?"

It was fortunate that Pearl's memory was so clear, as it helped her sort through the information Ten assaulted her with, though she was sure he was trying to be helpful, in his own way.

As she went through what he'd said, something hit her, leaving her shocked.

"Aren't you human, though?"

"Nooope." Ten pops his mouth. "Wife is." A pause; "I'm a Time Lord." Which Ten isn't expecting that to mean anything.

"What exactly is a Time Lord?" Pearl asked. It sounded more like a title than a species...

Technically, the species are all Gallifryens and Time Lord is sort of a title but also not. More like an enhanced Gallifreyan.

"We're a species that has existed nearly since the dawn of creation in my universe. Figured out how to travel through time and space - and have many lives... That's why I asked you to call me either by my married name or 'Ten'; otherwise calling me just The Doctor gets rather confusing considering thar are four more of my lives running around here."

Pearl was more than a little surprised to hear that. Traveling through time? Gems couldn't even do that, and she'd never personally encountered an alien species more advanced than her own. It was, in all honesty, a little intimidating... But also fascinating.

"Four of your other lives? That certainly must be... Odd."

"Certainly keeps everything entertaining." Which is a mix of sarcastic and humor.

"I die and then I come back in another body."

A pause, "Whut about you, Pearl?"

"What about - Oh, of course!" Pearl's cheeks were tinged slightly with blue as she realized she hadn't explained herself to Ten. "I'm a Gem. It's... A little complicated, really, but essentially: this - " She pointed to the Gem on her forehead. " - is me. The rest is an illusion, although of course, this form has actual mass, and such. I'm from the Gem Homeworld, though I've spent hundreds of years on Earth."

Gem. Gem. As Pearl rattles on; Ten squints his eyes in thought; as Ten is thinking about what Connie has told Ten about Gems.

"Do you know someone named Connie?"

Pearl blinked a few times in confusion, then broke into a smile.

"Connie? Do you mean Connie Maheswaran?" she asked, finally feeling like there was a shred of stability in this already-seemingly-crazy place.

"Yes!" Ten remarks with enthusiasm between his voice and big brown eyes. Let's see - he can't see Connie's bending trace anymore - so psychically pings for Connie to get a sense of where she is.

"Right then. Hop on." The Doctor hops onto the motor scooter himself.
