At first, Peridot just glowered up at the (apparent) human, but then his words registered, and she did a double take. She still looked far from happy, but her anger wasn't directed at this particular man.

"Well, why didn't anyone tell me that?!" she shouted, at the top of her tiny little lungs. Honestly, someone probably had, and she'd probably just tuned it out, thinking she had already gathered all the relevant information from whoever it was.

"I know, right? I found them myself, all on my own, just the other day. Everyone who explained things to me was far too obsessed with explaining the storms, and the chaos."

He shook his head with a little roll of his eyes.

"Everyone's so self-important here, they all think they know what's best for everyone else, without actually stopping to ask people what they actually want to know. Be ready for an awful lot of unsolicited advice - and yes, I'm including that just then. I'm not a complete hypocrite."

"Agreed," Peridot stated, shaking her own head. "And at least you're aware of your shortcomings, unlike..."

...Certain Pearls, she'd been ready to say, but then a thought occurred to her.

"Why do you talk like that?" she asked. She'd never heard a human with such an accent before; she'd only heard any kind of English accent from Garnet.

...Great, was this another "hybrid Gem-human" situation?

He tilted his head at her, not entirely sure what she meant, for a moment. Damn not having his psychic abilities, here, and having to actually guess at ridiculous things like context.

"It's just an accent. Came with the regeneration. I never really know what I'm going to get, the last one was a bit more posh." He drops into a passable Hollywood-American accent. "I could sound more like you if you really wanted me to, but it takes effort, and really, it's a pain, so I'd rather not."
