Will Stanton | The Dark is Rising
But how long had it been? Looking around, he couldn't say for sure.
There was only one answer. He sets off in search of someone who would know.
=D
"Will?"
She wasn't quite rushing over to hug him, but she moved over quickly to where Will was.
"Haven't seen you in, what, months? /It's good to see you./"
And that last part she did in the Speech, for emphasis.
no subject
"You as well," he returns in the Old Speech. "It has only been a few months here, then?"
no subject
"Mmmhmm. ... Connie found out first,"
It's out of her mouth before she can really stop herself.
"I know she'll be glad to see you, too!"
She calms herself down a little, then.
"Did anything happen for you back home? Or did any time pass?"
no subject
He smiles slightly. "I'll look forward to meeting her again."
no subject
Nodding quickly, she gestured to the trail beyond them.
"Mind a walk? I think we can still get you to the Box easily enough."
Or just walk; Will had come back during a quiet time, so odds were they could afford the calm moment.
no subject
He had time there now, to learn and grow and explore the world.
"I don't mind the walk."
no subject
She held out a hand to Will on impulse as she started moving, though she pulled it back halfway through the gesture.
no subject
Will did not grieve for what had happened. More, he understood that for the rest of his kind this was a time of joy. For their long task was finally complete.
Still, it was very lonely.

All that's left are the memories...
Nita sighed after a few minutes of walking, looking up at the sky suddenly.
"... Y'know, I've never actually checked how many people Wake up twice, let alone regain their memories after the fact."
She'd noted when people had, just not run a tally.
no subject
He wasn't sure whether to hope that it was something common, or another oddity he could attribute to what he was.
no subject
"I think, of the people I know who are still here, V has..."
But apart from him, most had since gone back to Sleep, or set out to explore the worlds.

"Maybe... if they stop being suited to Wake once, getting over that hump and Waking again has more of a block?"
It was hardly a theory, by her standards.

Privately, Will suspects that his own disappearance and return here was because of the Light. In his life, many things that seemed to be coincidences just happened to bring him to the place and time he needed to be. It wasn't a far reach that the same could be true here.
no subject
It's both the most general description she can think of, yet somehow not enough.
"They're probably preoccupied with what's happened back home, for them, or something serious happened here to just make them... not want to be here anymore."
That wasn't to say Nita believed in coincidences either, but still.

As annoying as that could be.
"But if you do think of something, mind letting me know as well?"
