Character Name: Zelda, Princess of Hyrule (and, occasionally, Sheik of the Sheikah Tribe)

About Them: The eternally reincarnated princess of Hyrule, destined to be kidnapped regularly and to then restore a kingdom on the verge of collapse. Alternatively: a going-on-nineteen-year-old whose adolescence was spent on the run from a tyrannical usurper, and has never really recovered from the damage the experience did to her. Generally appears as a gracious, gentle-born young lady but isn't terribly comfortable with other people.

Also has an alternate identity as a ninja-bard, which may or may not be a coping mechanism for feelings of guilt and inadequacy about how she ended up on the run in the first place.

What They've Been Up to: Zelda lives with Link, Shadow, and Clef in the Southern District. She has been on a solo-project since she arrived to fill in the gaps in her education (which are considerable, magical knowledge and practical survival tips being more relevant than anything that might help her should she survive Ganondorf) and can often be found in the library trying to read anything which might be vaguely helpful for becoming a good ruler and/or building a kingdom.

Sheik the gender-ambiguous ninja generally comes out at night and can usually be found on the highest points of Nautilus, playing the harp.

Looking For/Future Plots: What I've always wanted to do is get Zelda in a scenario where she can acknowledge why she clings to Sheik as an alternate persona- which basically boil down to feelings of helplessness and frustration with her own circumstances at home. Nautilus (where she's not constantly reminded of mistakes she made at the age of ten) might be able to help with this, but I've never been sure how to integrate it properly.

Also I've toyed with her finding out about the Great Flood from The Wind Waker, which emerges from her decision that it would be kinder to send her Link back in time and is quite possible for her to hear of in Nautilius as the Hero of Winds was a former resident. But that might conflict with the former interest, because realizing she has effectively doomed her beloved country would probably send her into a pit of depression, and I'm not sure how I would pull her out.

Things to Avoid: It's not necessarily something to avoid for CR purposes, but she's unlikely to be impressed with people who seem too obsessed with greed or ambition. People who seem likely to harm Link or Shadow will be on her shit-list for all eternity.

Libraries are a favorite haunt of this one, too - perhaps they can meet and compare trauma notes. (His people psychically manipulated him for centuries, and he's just barely started recovering, so that's fun.)

That would certainly be interesting- and I suppose Sheik is much less likely to be mistaken for any Consorts, isn’t she?

Yeah, I'm not sure Link would be able to recover fully from that little reveal either. He's "okay" with the eternal cycle thing, but, I think flooded Hyrule would break them both.

(And quite possibly cause him to punch a certain red king of the lion variety in the face.)

I'm fairly amused that Link does talk about Zelda and Sheik as two separate individuals to people...including Clef, I think.

It’s always fun to reinterpret long-standing fandom wars in unique ways- and wow, does the Zelda/Sheik thing provide material.
