:: snort:: Wait till you get to know Kaylin better.
Hahaha XD
No. Nooooooooooooooooooo nononono. No thank you. Besides which there was no guarantee he'd come for her - or want to take her if he found a better slave.

She took a deep breath and focused on the other, easier, question. "Hawks investigate crimes when laws get broken, we uphold and defend the law and all those protected by it. We fly free, so long as we report in and log our time. Knights march only at the Emperor's explicit command. They and their armor grow rusty, their skills wasted. They're like the army only decorative." She didn't think much of the army either. Or most Imperial or privately hired guards.

She fell silent a moment, thinking about the description of the Hawks. She didn't think highly of the knights either, but she wouldn't say they were rusty or wasted their skills. "Are there other Hawks here too?"

"And I tell you something else. My world? Humans are the bottom of the food chain. Most of the other races actually look at us with disdain." She leaned back a bit, again trying to put the child at ease, and figured if that was her concern telling her about the other races might help.
"We have several species of sentient people on my world. Almost as many as there are here." Kit was a shock the first time for anyone, really. "On my world we have the Tha'alani," she said, protective warmth in her voice. "They look more or less human, except for the stalks on their heads." she lifted two fingers to her forehead, one from each hand. "They're almost hypnotizing when they move. And like all the non-humans that aren't also buildings, their eyes change colour to indicate their mood. Y'belline, a friend of mine, her eyes are usually a lovely honey touched brownish gold. Which is a happy colour for her people, or at least... content. Then there are the Aerians. They look human except for their eyes and their wings." So much longing in the word wings. "My friend Clint and his wife both have amazing wings, I love touching the feathers." Mostly because she loved hearing Clint curse her out in that wonderful voice of his, but the kid didn't need to know that. "Then there are the Leontines. My Sargent is one, as are his wives and kits. And Marrin, the woman who runs the foundling halls and takes care of the children who don't have parents, she is one as well." And someone she would love to bring this kid to. Like she'd brought her own son. Who was Leontine. Long story.
"And of course the immortal races. One of them would be the Barrani. Tall, perfect. All look somewhat alike with perfect long black hair" Except for one "and pointed ears, eyes usually gold or blue. They'll lie more easily than they breathe, but there are Barrani Hawks as well. And then there are the Dragons. You know how you asked if there are any other Hawks here? There is one. Tiamaris. He has a humanish looking form, and a dragon looking Dragon form."

"Those are a lot of different kinds of people..are they all here?" This place must be HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE to house them all!

Despite the initial feeling of wariness around Kaylin, she was definitely starting to look more curious - no doubt from hearing about all those other new things Kaylin told her about. "Um... do you know how long it will be before I see Master Naofumi?"

Kaylin nodded a bit. "I have a friend back home," she said, keeping her voice weasy and conversational, "named Tara. She's trying to grow plants too, but instead of a garden of flowers, she's trying to grow carrots. The leaves keep spilling over out of the dirt onto the cobbles, so everyone has to be really careful where they step."
