You are wrong in that assessment.

I won't bore you with the many ways one could decimate an entire population in order to kill a single man, but, there are many.

[Bland tones in response. Erik's life has been nothing short of a nightmare. His life has been worse than any threat of retribution or shunning.]

Allow me to make a guess:

They would call me a monster. A murderer. And then they would try to hunt me down for justice--or, perhaps simply shun me. [He's noticed the city is not well united even in coming together when there are criminals. He has sincere doubts that they'd unite against him with any sort of cohesion.]

All of that is exceedingly difficult, if not impossible when they do not know who I am.

[Erik paused.]

I am not certain why you would think a grudge would sway me one way or the other unless I were the one holding it.

If you are referring to having my name, I'll remind you that I am not Rumpelstiltskin nor a fairy nor a demon and having my name does not give you any real advantage over me.

Knowing the name of a ghost does you little good. You would be better served learning to walk with your hand level with your eyes.
