I'm horrible.
I stumbled across this site, wherein you can choose from a sampling of different novels (mostly romance) and customize the main characters so that you can be the heroine or hero.
You can even try out samples of these books by putting in names and hair/eye colors and generating personalized excerpts.
Naturally this was made to be abused.
Starscream and Tally in:Twilight First Bite
“Samus has suspicions about me. About what I am.”
Tally froze. “Are you sure?”
“She seems to have held her ideas for quite some time, on little evidence. Is she one of those who romanticizes my kind? There are many who seem strangely fascinated with my fictional brethren.”
“Well, Samus likes vampire flicks, but she’s no Goth. What exactly did she say?”
Starscream repeated the conversation verbatim. “As I said, she has little evidence, but still she persists in her conviction, and I cannot argue. She is, after all, correct about what I do.”
Tally stared at him. “Starscream?” Her voice was high and soft. “Would you show me? I mean…what you do? How you feed?”
“I would rather not.” Her face fell, and he had to look away. “If you feel it necessary, I shall. When you are certain. Not until then.” Gentle as the brush of a shadow, he stroked her cheek, kissed her, and vanished into the night, leaving her alone.
Tally lay awake long into the night, falling finally into a restless, dream-haunted sleep about Starscream where each ray of sunshine coming through the windows was first his touch, then a brand of fire, alternately pleasure and pain. She woke, sweating and chilled, wondering why she didn’t just turn and run away....
Tony and Rip in: Love's Next Door
"Rip, what's going on?" Tony asked, as he slowly spun her around attempting to keep a clear view of his table. "What's with this game you're playing?" All he wanted to do was end the dance and get back to his girlfriend Isis.
Rip laid her head on his shoulder, positioning her lips a breath away from his neck, her long, black hair gently brushing against his cheek. Without missing a beat, she answered, "I'm not up to anything," she said innocently. "It's been a long time since I've seen you and I just wanted to say hello and have a dance with my buddy. Is there any harm in that?"
He didn't believe her - not in a New York minute. "Wrong answer," he said, his impatience growing.
Rip gently brushed her warm, wet lips against his neck.
"Stop that!" he pleaded, glancing again at Isis to see if she was watching. His girlfriend's eyes glared back at him from their table. She hadn't missed a thing. The glance spoke volumes - the rest of the evening was going to be hell.
Rip, once again, moved her lips ever so slowly along his neck. "That bothers you?" she said, in a soft, sultry voice. . .
Rip and Derek in: Medieval Passion
...A rut in the road caused the carriage to lurch violently and Lady Rip was flung backward, her hands grasping for the satin upholstery over her head. But again it was Derek that saved the day, catching Rip up in his arms as the carriage careened over the rut, finally righting itself onto the pathway.
Gathered in a reckless embrace Rip held to Derek, golden tassels twisted against the length of her fingers in one hand, dark brown locks of his hair in the other. In the midst of her own ill considerations of him, she discovered in fear that she relished the touch of this bold Marquis ... more than what the love of another man would readily grant forgiveness.
Rip lost the strength to ask that Derek stop as his lips reached the curve of her neck. She felt his royal hands explore her bare legs beneath the cover of her gown. Beyond all sense of reason, his lips met with hers, eager for her unforeseen delicacies ...
Prowl and Lara Croft in: Vampire Kisses
Also I feel bound to mention that the title of this excerpt is "Prowl has vampire lust."
Prowl sighed. He longed to go to Lara, to comfort her, to caress her, but he could not, and so he remained outside, just below her window, watching and listening. He thought of her silky dark brown hair and dancing brown eyes. His mouth filled with the bittersweet taste of longing. The first flush of dawn chased him away, but before he left, he thrust a note beneath her window sash.
I have watched from the shadows;
you are brighter than sunlight.
It might have been more poetic than literal, but he meant it truly; hers was a warmth that would not burn him to ash – though it did seem to have seared its way into his heart.
Optimus Prime and Blackarachnia in: Prom and Prejudice
“Wait a minute,” he began, and Blackarachnia stopped, looking at him curiously. “Look, Blackarachnia...”
“What? What is it?” she asked, the pained expression on his face making her nervous.
“I want you to go to the prom with me,” Optimus blurted out abruptly.
The flush of happiness that covered her face was short-lived when she remembered their deal and the real reason he was inviting her. “I see,” Blackarachnia said quietly. “So this is the final straw to make your ex even more jealous?”
“No, Blackarachnia.” Optimus laughed a bit awkwardly. “I mean, I want you to go with me − not as part of the plan − but as my date.”
Her eyes widened and she frowned slightly, replaying his words in her head to make sure she understood. “Your real date?”
“Yeah, my date. Who better to take than my best friend?” he responded in a murmur. There was an awkward pause as Optimus waited for a response and Blackarachnia stood staring through him. Optimus cleared his throat to break the silence.
“I really should get to class,” Blackarachnia finally replied, and started to walk past him.
“Please, Blackarachnia,” he stated simply. Something in his voice caused her to turn and face him. “I’ll understand if you don’t want to go with me, but just give me an answer. Yes or no?”
Her black eyes gazed directly into his blue ones. The tension in her chest seemed to release, and she found herself smiling again. “Yes, Optimus. I’ll go to the prom with you.”
and lastly, from one of the kids' book selections because I would have felt dirty putting them in an adult romance novel... Sari and Damon in: The Golden Key
. . . . Sari and Damon continued to walk down the rainbow's arch to where it met the earth. They stepped out of the rainbow onto the mossy ground. Sari recognized it immediately; it was the same bed of moss where they had slept so soundly at the beginning of their journey. Sari wanted so much for other children to experience the wonders of the golden key so it seemed only right to leave the key at the bottom of the rainbow where they had originally found it. Kneeling, they carefully placed the key under a clump of moss with just the jeweled handle showing. The ruby that had helped guide Sari and Damon throughout their journey shone ever so brightly.
Sari now understood the magical powers of the golden key and remembered the wise words spoken by Starscream, "No one would ever want to sell the key, not for all the riches of the world." It was not about money, it was not about wealth...the key unlocked the strength and the desire to never give up following your dreams. Sari recognized the beauty within people whether young or old. More than ever, Sari admired Damon for his determination throughout their journey.
Sari and Damon smiled at each other, knowing their journey through Fairyland had come to an end. They both took one last look back to the rainbow, each remembering their own special memory; knowing that they would share many more journeys together.
