[And just when he'd been starting to get better, starting to feel like himself again, everything had to go crazy and his entire world seemed to spin out of control. Waking up in an unfamiliar place had been terrifying, absolutely terrifying and it had rendered Fitz unable to do anything for a good amount of time. He didn't even realize he had a communication device with him until he could finally breath normally again and his hands had stopped shaking.

That's when he'd turned the device on, managing to not switch the video on in the process as he willed his voice to stop shaking.]

Director Coulson? Agent May?

[ video ] - I'll apologize in advance.

[ Well, no. Loki doesn't rec those this one, but one of the names he utters... Though overall this one seems very little of a threat. ]

Director Coulson, you're say?

[ Audio ]

[He can't help but flinch at the unfamiliar voice, hesitating a moment before he clears his throat.]

[ The temptation to lie in response in grand, yet, all of Nautilus knows who he is, so there is very little point in hiding, is there?

He shrugs. ]

It has his breath hitching and a slight rush of panic surges through him.]

[Oh no, Fritz, calm down. Deep breaths. She makes a worried face. He doesn't seem to be takng this well.]

You're in a city called Nautilus. It called you here and you answered the call.

I didn't answer any call. I never got a call. That doesn't even make sense.

[He's trying not to panic and failing. Really failing.]

I can't--I can't be here.

[airbound]

I oknows, but that's how it works. You answered, by waking up.

[Oops, she can see it.]

[Oh, look, someone calling! The pack jogs to get closer to him.]

Hei, stranger! What are you asking the network? I might be able to help!

[Belatedly he notices that the man's shaking and doesn't look too good, and that humans sometimes find wolves running at them to be alarming. He dances away, contrite.]

[onthefitz]

[Yes, yes that was just a bit alarming and has Fitz scrambling backwards, almost dropping the comm device he has in his hands as he stares at them with wide eyes.]

You--how--

[Okay, if he thought he was having trouble processing things before, it's nothing compared to the lack of anything he's getting from his mind at the moment.]

[He stays a good distance away, heads ducking in shame.]

[Rex is out meditating today, sitting on a large, flat rock with his eyes closed. Glowing blue tech lines crawl over his body as he spends time communicating with the nanites within. As silent as he is, however, it's not too difficult for him to pick up on the presence of another person approaching. Footfalls, a voice...]

[Rex opens one eye to see a man approaching, focused on what looks like a Nautilus communicator. The kid's never seen or heard him before. Must be a newbie.]

Hey... You look and sound a little lost. Need some help?

[onthefitz]

[Fitz almost drops the communicator, stopping dead in his tracks as his head snaps up so he can focus on Rex. He's unfamiliar and that immediately makes Fitz wary, the scientist clutching the comm device tightly against his chest with one hand as he takes a half step back.]

Who are you?

[deusrexmachina]

[Oops, this one's a little jumpy. Not too surprising, though. He's in a strange, new place and has no reason to trust anyone or anything. Rex stays where he is, though he does open his other eye as well and leans forward with his elbows resting on his knees.]

Name's Rex Salazar. I live in the Northern District, here.

What about you?

[It comes out before he can stop himself and he almost winces at how pathetic that sounds. He use to be so much better at this sort of thing and now it was all just bad.

He shifts, still watching Rex warily but he tries to relax some in the wake of that bad lie.]

I just..I have no idea where I am, to be honest.

[deusrexmachina]

[The response has all the honesty of a name drawn up at random out of a hat, but Rex doesn't question it. Given how uneasy this guy looks, he's probably afraid to give out his real name or any other important details about who he is or where he's from. In a way, it's something Rex is familiar with as a former agent of Providence. Hell, covering up an identity is something his own partner would do in a situation like this. Just...with a lot more ease and skill.]

Well, for starters, you're in a city called Nautilus. Sometimes affectionately referred to as "the City of Change." That's the easy explanation.

The one that usually throws people for a loop is that Nautilus is...sorta between worlds. Like a multiversal hub. So wherever you're from, you're waaaaay outside of that place, now.
