Chat Movie Night

Some of you may have noticed the occasional Movie Nights we have in chat. For those of you who haven't seen, chat movie nights started almost a year ago (April or May of 2009), when Allison, Cheryle, and Kas were bored one night and decided to watch a movie, and has since grown to encase anyone who is in chat at the time of, "Hey guys, let's watch a movie." These movie nights covered several different films and genres, from the comedic horrors that are Repo! the Genetic Opera, Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon, and Hellsing, to fun-for-everyone movies such as Penelope, Cats Don't Dance, Titan A.E., and Peter Pan. Some of these movies have been just for fun, while others have been to help introduce players in the game to a canon they might not have known about, and to help along when it came to critiquing in the infamous HMD.

Sunday, April 25th, 2010 (tonight) will be another Chat Movie Night, during which we will be watching Disney's Robin Hood. Start time flops all over, but if you feel like popping your head into chat at some point to join us, Allison is in charge. :)

The main purpose of this post, however, is to organize a list of movies that players would be interested in having a Chat Movie Night for. (This can include series, too, seeing as there are plenty of tv shows and animes that people haven't seen!) Go ahead and reply here with any ideas you might have for movies, or with any ideas you might have to make our insane, mostly-impromptu movie nights better.

SINCE WHEN AM I IN CHARGE.

All I end up doing is corralling Squee into proper countdowns.

This seems very totalitarian in nature. Are you sure you're not Megatron?

Ink should be included in this list.

If you have Netflix, it's on Instant Play.

Ink is a superb independent film that reminds all who watch it strongly of certain themes in The Wake.

About, like, a dreamworld that exists alongside reality, and a war between people who give dreams to the slumbering masses, while their enemies ruin their lives with nightmares.

Except it's also a very personal story, too. I was thoroughly impressed with the movie. I really can't do it justice trying to describe it.

The movie includes this awesome scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RAxydsJCFA), which almost made GJ apply for Jacob (the blind man).

[identity profile] pierrot-fais.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:35 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] pierrot-fais.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
http://www.doubleedgefilms.com/

But I dunno where you can get it for free, other than watching it on Netflix.

oh shit, I've heard some of the music from that movie and thought, "dayum, that must be a pretty sweet earth movie."

AND NOW YOU'VE REMINDED ME OF IT. AND THE TRAILER HAS INTRIGUED ME. that looks really awesome, man, thanks. ♥
doorwasopen: Colquhoun's story. (They Don't Go Anywhere)

Seconding Ink like burning. It is such a good movie.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-04-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok this is a list of mostly funny movies, because those are the ones I like.

~Anything by Mel Brooks- the list I can make off the top of my head includes Blazing Saddles, History of the World Part 1, Men in Tights, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety (probably harder to find, but very funny), Spaceballs, and he helped with the TV Get Smart.
~The Pink Panther movies. Not the new ones, the ones with Peter Sellers. Frikkin awesome.
~Batman: The Movie. THE ADAM WEST ONE.
~The Reduced Shakespeare Company, though this probably won't work for Chat movie night as I think you might have to buy it from them. :(
~Police Academy. 1-6 are pretty good, 7 sucks. Don't watch 7.

...I'll think of more later.

Still on hiatus, but...

[identity profile] darthsqueechan.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
But but but but ;A; I MISS EVERYTHING EVER

Allison promised One Upon a Forest. It must go on the list for I demand it. When I am. not. hiatusy

Re: Still on hiatus, but...

[identity profile] darthsqueechan.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
*Once Upon a Forest even

[identity profile] crooked-timbers.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Watchmen and V for Vendetta? No, I'm not horribly biased. Hell, might as well throw Mushishi in there too, since it doesn't have an overarching plot and any episode can stand on its own.
Sherlock Holmes (/still hasn't seen it)
Baccano! was discussed earlier...

Maybe some lame/silly/badly dubbed movies too for fun. old crappy animes or cheesy kung fu. lol...

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
re: 'cheesy kung fu'

Kung Pow. It's more a parody of bad kung fu movies, but. :D

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
oh and we actually own a box set of 100 sci-fi movies. Almost all of which are terrible. Some that come to mind are 'Starman' and 'Teenagers From Outer Space.'

[identity profile] killmeloving.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I... think we have that exact same boxset.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

I'm so sorry if it is because I don't remember many good ones. :(

[identity profile] killmeloving.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeeah.

one day my dad brought this box home. and was all "Look it this 100 sci-fi classics. Now we'll have something to watch all summer long!"

and we were like "Daaaad these movies. they are gonna suck."

and they did. some where alright. some were cheesy enough to get through.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
That.

Is exactly what happened to me.

You're not my sister in disguise are you. D:

[identity profile] killmeloving.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
NOT UNLESS YOU ARE MY SISTER IN DISGUISE. :O

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 04:06 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] ten000miles.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)

Also noting that if you guys watch the Peter Pan with Mary Martin when I'm not in chat, I'll...do. Something. I'm very menacing, guys.

[identity profile] killmeloving.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
dude. I'll have to be in chat if you all are gonna watch Baccano!

[identity profile] rihoooon.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I suggest "The Shaft" which is a movie about an evil elevator. It is my most favoritest bad movie. If it can be found. I KEEP TRYING BUT I CAN'T FIND A STREAM OF IT ONLINE bawww
