[There was a very unusual-looking trunk of metal that stood quite apart from the trees in the area. It definitely didn't look tree-like at all, and were one to glance up for closer inspection, they just might find something- or someone, rather, looking right back.

A pair of spotlight eyes peered down from a height taller than even the trees in the area.

And then...it talked.]

....hellooooo....

[He noticed the movement only a split second before the massive metal creature rose, and he took a good few steps back. Then several more for good measure. Panic takes hold first, and he's ready to run. Because that sudden appearance? To someone's who has literally lived the last year of his life in an MMORPG, that's a textbook boss battle introduction.]

[But... bosses roar, beat their chest or brandish impressive weapons. They certainly don't greet people. And if he was meant to fight it, it would at least have a life bar, wouldn't it?]

[Clearly, this is the NPC event he was meant to find.]

Um... hello. [He rubs the back of his head nervously. How does one break the ice with a massive metal being? If all else fails, go with the classics.] H-How are you?

[The Giant watched as the boy stepped back, and as if taking that as a sign that he wanted to give the robot some space, the metal behemoth began to step forward, away from the treeline.

He paused, looking down at the little human before slowly crouching down to get a better look, and perhaps likewise offer a better view of himself. Or...not, but it was the thought that counted, right? And slow tended to be preferred, he'd learned, as most got a little more than startled when a fifty foot robot suddenly squatted down to study you.

For a moment, he offered no response. Standard as the question was, it was still one that he hadn't quite gotten the hang of.]

Hooow...?

[He scratched his head.]

[Kirito had faced plenty of bosses at this point, even a handful that were bigger than the robot in front of him. Still, he tensed as he drew closer to the ground. The brief silence probably doesn't help matters, as it only allows a detail oriented player like Kirito to notice just how massive he is. He really hoped he didn't say the wrong thing and trigger a battle.]

How...?

[Okay, he didn't what exactly what kind of response he'd been expecting, but it certainly wasn't that. He tilted his head to one side. Did he have to ask the right question? And maybe it wouldn't hurt to introduce himself. Who knows how this one had been programmed to respond?]

My name's Kirito. Can you tell me where I am...?

[Oops. Did he confuse the boy? The Giant waited a moment longer, and once the human spoke up again, he seemed to relax.]

Kiiiiriiitoooo....

[What an interesting name! It was kind of fun to say, too. Oh, and the question that followed was one he could answer. He nodded- he even smiled! before replying in his rumbling manner.]

[Kirito couldn't help but smile himself at the stranger's enthusiasm. His response, however, only served to confuse him more. Nautilus? He'd never heard of a floor with that name before. And the more he thought about it, the terrain was a little too varied. A game would recycle assets, to reduce transfer speeds and hard drive space.]

[One way to be sure, and he hoped the large stranger wouldn't take offense. He walked to the nearest tree, took in a sharp breath, then swung his fist forward. It hurt, but it would do the same in Aincrad. But in Aincrad, the system would have given him an "IMMORTAL OBJECT" error. Instead, when a tiny piece of bark chipped away, he realized the truth.]

Nautilis... isn't in Aincrad.

[He turned back to... he'd only just met him, but he had to be more than an NPC, at this point, and it now seemed rude to not treat him as such. (He was a little numb to the shock that, yes, the giant robot in front of him was completely real. That'll probably catch up to him eventually.)]

Do you know why I'm here? And, um... what should I call you? [He's almost kind of adorable to Kirito, but it's probably a good rule to let the giant robot be called whatever he wants.]

[Watching Kirito, the Giant was a little surprised to see him suddenly try and hit a tree. Had he said something wrong?

He leaned forward a little, head tilting again. This person was new, and confused apparently. That was how it usually was for people that found themselves in the city, the overgrown robot included. But it didn't seem like the boy below him was upset so much as confused.]

[Said Giant gestured towards himself with a massive hand. He then gave a brief look around as he considered the previous question.]

Naaautilus caall...Kiiriitooo...heere...

How did you know my name?!

[Well dang, she feels the earth shake under her and she hops off the boulder, ready to defend herself--

But pauses at the familiar voice. And, did she see something peeking above the trees? Hesitantly, she calls out.]

Y-yes! I can hear you!

[Magnus reaches a small clearing and steps out of the copse of trees he's currently pushing aside.]

[His blue optics settle on the small organic and he raises one hand to show he means no harm.]

My name is Ultra Magnus. I received your distress beacon. How can I be of assistance?

IT IS SOMETHING THAT TENDS TO COME TO ME. NORMALLY IT IS A PART OF MY BUSINESS TO KNOW THESE THINGS.

Giant, eh? [If everything else hadn't, that cinched it. If he'd been some kind of SAO boss, he would've had some moniker attached to the front, like "Fearsome" or "Unbreakable".]

...why? [Not that a whole lot of this made sense, but something else was incredibly odd. He rubbed the leather of his Blackwyrm Coat between his fingers. It was somehow real now, as well...?] And if I'm not in the game anymore, why do I still have my armor?

[It takes a moment for the "not in the game" to sink in. If he's not logged in, then...] I... did I die?

[He shook his head. "Why?" was starting to push out of his league when it came to question-answering. However the questions to follow were even more confusing. Was he asking him, or was the boy talking to himself?]

Gaaaame..?

[The Giant fingered his chin as he peered at Kirito.]

[He hadn't actually realized it was saying all of that out loud, as he was feverishly trying to sort out what had happened. He bit his lower lip, knowing that trying to explain the VRMMORPG in general, and the death game that Sword Art Online had become specifically, was difficult in the very best of circumstances.]

The game is where I was before I got here. [Though that begs another question, and one he's sure his large friend could answer.] Are there others here?

Don't flatter yourself, kiddo.

[The Giant wasn't sure he understood what the boy meant by that. Games were something to be played, weren't they? But how could anyone have been there?

At least the question that followed was easier to handle. He nodded at that. There were lots of others here!]

Excuse you! I am not a slacker. I get perfect grades, thank you.

[Because she cheats. But hey, figuring out how to do it right was hard work too okay. That took practice.]

[Somehow Irene is finding that extremely hard to believe. Just a bit.]

[Spoken as if she can't believe anyone would doubt her.]

[Clicking the video feature on, Spider-girl appears on the screen, lifting a hand in an awkward sort of wave.]

Okay, I think I've got this now. So, anyone care to show a girl around because I'm still not completely sure I know what's going on? I just sort of ended up here and last I knew, I was chasing this guy that called himself The Vulture and then I was here.

[She was more shaken by it than she was letting up but she had appearances to keep up. There was a lot more to the story but those details were hers to keep.]

Anyone want to fill me in on what's going on?

[Sadly, Kirito... well, Kazuto could probably ramble at length about how the entire process working, seeing as he'd been obsessed with the NervGear technology and game design, but probably even the most technically minded person would get bored after a few minutes.]

[Then it hit him all at once, the growling of his stomach probably loud enough for the Giant to hear at so far a distance. While the game simulated the taste and smell of real food, he'd not had an actual meal in almost a year.]

Um... [He glanced back over his shoulder.] Is that pizza place actually open?

[It would have only confused the Giant even more, but it seemed that he was saved video game talk.

The sound that the boy made even without speaking did draw a curious look from the robot. He followed Kirito's glance towards the pizza place.

Unfortunately he wasn't any more knowledgeable when it came to such places, so he shrugged a little. But then he was sure he'd seen people go in, now and then, so clearly it was...]

[Irene doubts everyone and everything, Piper, you don't even know.]
