Spooked hearing a call so close, the girl gasps and jumps back only to end up with her back knocking against the trunk of the tree. Looking around herself she fails to think to look upwards as she huddles against the stationary structure, not having quite attended to the new voice enough through her fright to figure out which direction it is originating from just yet. Knees pressing together as she cannot see anyone from her current position, she does at least think to look on the other side of the tree, and twists to try to peer around the thick trunk to no avail. All she can see is the continuing layer of brush and more trees...

One hand touches against the bark as she tries to steady herself, voice tremoring and small, "...i-is someone there?" She is not ready to admit to being lost when she has no idea with whom she is communicating.

Sheesh, someone was nervous.

The hedgehog shifted from his napping place. He wrapped both legs around a branch so he could swing upside down to meet the girls gaze a little more closely; A few leaves drifted down from the branches overhead as he rusted about. "Up here!" He waved down to the base of the tree. "Hi!"

The new sounds above certainly draw her attention, and turning back around she spots the leaves falling in their curving and twisting path downwards. Leaning her head back to peer upwards, through the mess of branches and the leaves she spots the bright blue color and-

She stares at the figure that is most definitely not human, waving at her and greeting her. Not entirely certain what to make of this, she bends at her knees, sinking down slightly. Streets make it easy to discern ways to escape with solid walls and straight paths, the forest? So far, the trees seem to just get her more lost than ever before, so she hesitates to bolt even though that is her typical response to something unknown.

Instead, she grapples for some understanding as her feet push her back against the tree firmly, "...um... h-hi?" She should be fine so long as the other being is up in the tree, right?

He wouldn't stay up there for very long, at any rate. Sonic let his grip on the branches slack, he twisted in the air and came to an easy landing in the grass.

"Name's Sonic. Nice to meetcha!" The hedgehog dusted himself off and held his hand out to the girl. "You new in town? I haven't seen you 'round Nautilus before."

Quite suddenly the other being is coming down from the tree, and closer to her.

All she can manage is a shrill yelp as she pulls her back from the trunk of the tree to dart around behind it. It isn't quite the escape she might normally take, but hiding behind the tree will have to do until she can figure out which way to run. With no path visible from this side of the tree either, she might just have to chance it.

"..Ooookay." That intro didn't go as well as he could have hoped. Sonic dropped his hand and craned his head to try and look behind the tree trunk. She's said hi when he was waving at her from the top of the trees, so what was with the sudden need to be even more jumpy?

"Not gonna hurt you, lady. I'm just droppin' in to say hello."

There's a pause, but after a few seconds, Sonic will have that peering met with a shy peek of half her face around the trunk, hands plastered against the bark of the tree. He did seem friendly enough...

A sense of guilt keeps her feet rooted for the moment, even as she borders on indecision, "...s-sorry. I don't know where I am and I don't recognize anything here." Including what he might be.

Given how jumpy she was, the hedgehog took a seat in the grass. At least then it wouldn't seem like he was ready to run after her.

"I knew I'd never seen ya around before." Sonic waved around to the forested area that surrounded the both of them. "This place is called Nautilus. It's waaay far away from wherever you call home."

It does the trick, as after the stranger speaks to her again, the girl shows a little more of herself in leaning out from behind the trunk up to showing one shoulder and her entire head and neck.

"Nautilus? How do you know it's far away from where I came from? ...do you know how I got here?" It's not meant as a suspicious question, but Annie does realize that if someone knows she isn't where she was and a far way from that place, there's at least the possibility that being was involved in the transition.
