Medic had noticed the stranger working on his peculiar piece of equipment from afar, and not long after the mercenary was hovering behind the bench the other man was seated on to peer over his shoulder with interest.

Sure. This seemed more like the Engineer's area of expertise, but Medic did build most of his equipment himself as well and this? Certainly looked somewhat like his own medigun. So of course he would be curious.

"Vhat does it- Do?" the mercenary asked eventually.

Ray is aware of the other man watching him work, but is mostly content to just let him watch until he says something, since he's not in the way. The proton pack itself is tucked safely under the bench, so it won't be stepped on; Ray would just wear it, but it does get heavy after awhile.

Hey looks up at the man's question though. "It's a proton-stream weapon designed to help capture ghosts," he says. "My friend Egon and I designed it. But it can get finicky when taken into realms with differing laws of physics, so I'm trying to adjust so it functions here."

"Capture ghosts?" the mercenary repeated, then quickly added "I knew it had to be possible SOMEHOW!" - Or more rather the Engineer and him had a few theories worked out after their team had encountered a couple of ghosts, yet never enough time to really work something out and actually test it. These ghosts never showed up for more than a day or two per year. Usually around Halloween for some reason.

He walked around the bench for a better look at the contraption, which he was sure would make the Engineer quite happy to get a good look at.

"Zhis veapon of yours has all the rights to be acting up here, if I may say so. Zhis city barely follows any laws at all." - Which was the fun part about it. In some way.

Ray grins. "Yep!", he said. "Egon and I developed the tech while we were working at Columbia University. After we and our other friend Peter got fired from there, we set up shop and made a business out of it."

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a business card to show the Medic. It bears the famous 'No Ghosts' logo, along with the Ghostbusters mailing address, phone, and fax numbers and captions above and below.

"The proton pack is really only half the job, though," Ray says, eager to show off his tech. He holds up a contraption about the size of s shoe box that's attached to a cable and foot pedal. "This here is what really makes it work; an ecto-trap. The proton streams are mostly just to weaken the ghost and get it into position over the trap. Then when you press the pedal, the trap opens, and the the ghost is pulled inside, neat as you please. We have a full ecto containment unit in our basement back home where we can store the ghosts after we catch them too, but that didn't come with me."

"Probably just as well too," he said. "As much trouble as I'm having with this equipment, I'd hate to have to try keeping the containment unit stable in this place."

"It is neat though," Ray said. "I've been to a few parallel dimensions before, but none quite like this one. Only problem is, I can't tell the guys about it; I know Egon'd love to get a look at this place."

Medic listened and let the other man speak, eying the business card in quiet interest.

What truly caught his attention, however, was the ecto-trap. Or rather just how very similar it looked to the re-animator devices they had to use while fighting Grey Mann's army of robots. Both devices just appeared to work in opposite ways... A curious coincidence.

"Vell, I'm impressed by your vork." the mercenary concluded in the end "You appear to know your field vell. How many ghosts did you catch vith zhis?"

"I've really lost count by this point," Ray says. "Hundreds, at least. Probably more like thousands."

"During times of heightened spectral activity, due to say, the lead up to an ancient Babylonian god bent on causing the end of the world arriving in New York, we end up working flat out and can catch several dozen in a week or two," Ray says. One might be surprised by how casually he comments on such a thing. "But normally it's anywhere from one to three actual ghosts in a week, plus a few false alarms. Like this one lady thought she had a demon in her walls, but it was really just a stray cat that had gotten stuck in her chimney."

It happens~

Now that was a decent number, indeed. Especially if these ghosts were all caught one at a time.

"But ghosts and demons are two different zhings, as far as my understanding goes. Vould your equipment also vork on a demon? Or, hypothetically, on a human even?"

Usually one at a time, though sometimes a place has more than one spook causing trouble.

Ray nods. "Ghosts and most demons are all ectoplasmically based," Ray says. "As long as a creature is made of ectoplasm, our equipment can handle it, and it can be modified if necessary for special cases. One of those case was for humans, when we briefly became the Crimebusters in order to pay the bills during a several week lull in ghost activity. It's not really practical to keep those kind of modifications in place unless you're going to use them on a regular basis, though, since they take time to make and undo."
