Rex being Rex, he was aware of how he typically came off to the high strung, detail oriented, even by-the-book sorts. Though he was a lot more responsible at age twenty than at age fifteen, his tendency to be free spirited and adventurous could often be read as reckless and careless. He was also prone to pulling pranks every once in a while, though never out of malice. Teasing was something he reserved for those he liked, even loved, though that too could be misinterpreted. Still, that didn't mean Rex wasn't going to try with someone like Red Alert, even though it was likely the Autobot had already decided that he was trouble waiting to happen.

"Nothing official, but yeah, morning patrols are something I do on my own almost every day," Rex responded casually. "The Northern District is my turf and I like to keep an eye on it. You know, check to see if anything new appeared overnight and make sure the wildlife out on the plains hasn't decided to invade the city proper.

"As for why you topped the list?" There was a brief pause while he shrugged, though as the transmission was audio only, it couldn't be seen. "Easy. For one, I'm looking for a Cybertronian with a vehicle mode. And two, you're big on security. I figured you'd probably be more about this than just about any other bot in the area."

D'awww... thanks! Well, this will be the test to see about that, right? ^_^;

Trouble indeed. Red knew that the kid'd probably try pulling some sort of prank. It was just a matter of time.

"Hmmm... Well, regular patrols of all the districts was something I had been considering myself. I might be tempted to actually take you up on your offer." .o(Provided there are no ulterior motives to this,) he thought to himself. He paused a moment, considering. He didn't know quite what to THINK of Rex, yet, and didn't completely trust him. He sounded sincere, but Red knew a couple mechs that could lie so smoothly and sound so sincere. Frowning faintly, he brought up a file and scanned it quickly. "Wildlife? Are you referring to the 'Potential Hazards' as explained in the introductory guide? Do they come into the city often? Why has nothing been done to corral this danger?"

Red Alert vented some air in a sigh, realizing that he was starting to get less worried about what Rex MIGHT do... and was actually itching to get out and explore the city. Rex was right; this sort of thing WAS right up his alley. And he couldn't very well respond to people in need if he didn't know where he was GOING, after all. "Very well, then. One can only learn so much from a map. A guide to the city would be... appreciated," he said begrudgingly. "Where shall I meet you?"
deusrexmachina: (Sure...why not!)

Indeed! <3

"Yep, that's exactly what I'm referring to... EVOs and Lunar Cry monsters. There's a bunch of different kinds, too, so it might not hurt to go look at some of them so you know what they are and how to deal with them. They don't wander in this way all that often, but trying to corral them would probably be pretty pointless. If they city wants them to have free roaming access, they will. And if any of them die, they might respawn outside the corralled area, anyway."

Rex was willing to bet no one had given Red Alert much of an explanation on what the deal was with the EVOs, though there were a couple of basic facts written into the intro guide. It would be better if someone who was very familiar with that part of Nautilus wildlife went over the details with him.

He grinned as Rex conceded to the idea that a run about that end of the city with a guide would be a good idea. "Guessing you know where the Medbay is by now? I'll meet you across the street in five minutes. Well, unless you need more time."

While Rex could get to the area around the Medbay in the blink of an eye, he knew Red Alert would either be walking or driving, and from where he wasn't exactly sure. Might as well give him the option of having a few more minutes to get there.

Red Alert let out a low, tired groan. "You have roaming, potentially rampaging monsters with free access to the city... and you're telling me attempts to corral them would be futile... and they respawn after being killed. What sort of pit is this place!? How often are the citizens of this city threatened by these monsters? Are you certain that forcing them outside the city limits or corralling them would be for naught?"

After a few moments, a red-and-white lamborghini tricked out with fire-chief decals and light bar rolled up to Medbay, stopping in front of where Rex was waiting. Red Alert was still unsure about a lot of this, but knew that gaining information about the city, and making sure that said city was safe was more important than any potential pranks. He just had to... trust that Rex was sincere about this patrol. He opened his passenger's door for the kid, revving his engine a little anxiously.

"Where shall we begin? What route do you usually take in these patrols? Outside of the monsters, what other things are we looking out for?"

Oh, questions, questions. Red Alert was sure going to have a lot of them, wasn't he? Fortunately, Rex was in a chatty mood that morning and more than up for answering whatever the Autobot came up with in terms of inquiries. Though he decided he'd best wait on getting to the latest ones until after they'd met up in person.

As Red rolled up, Rex stood with his hands in his pockets, goggles pulled down around his neck. When the door opened, he walked over and got in on the passenger side, already familiar enough with proper protocol in these situations to know that was where he belonged. After all, most Cybertronians preferred to remain in full control of themselves and being on the passenger side meant Rex was less likely to cause a problem, even unintentionally, like accidentally tapping one foot against the brake pedal.

"To answer your questions from before... Well, in summary, anyway? Nautilus basically does whatever he wants and we just sort of have to deal with it. If he wants Lunar Cry monsters and EVOs running loose on his perimeter, that's just how it works. Not that I necessarily like it that way, especially regarding the EVOs."

As he clicked his seatbelt into place, he glanced out the window. "Follow this street north until you hit the main road curving away from the plaza and then turn onto that, heading west. That'll take us out toward the border into the Western District, but if you turn north again along that border, you'll get toward the main road that circles the entire city. Driving along that, we can check the perimeter all the way around the north side.

"And outside of the monsters, we're looking for anything that's changed in some way overnight. You know, to make note of it. Most of the time, new stuff is harmless. Occasionally it isn't, though. Doesn't hurt to keep an eye out for anyone in trouble or for newly Wakened who just arrived, either. Anyone who looks like they're completely lost as they wander around is a definite sign to pull over and check the situation."

Red Alert sank down on his wheels and let out a low, frustrated moan. "How in the world are you supposed to secure anything, then?!" he whined. "It sounds like fighting against a river; all you can do is attempt to dam it, and it'll just find ANOTHER way around!"

After another stressed whine of his engine, Red Alert kicked into gear and started to drive north as Rex directed. "Well I'd better at least SEE as many as these monsters as possible, so I know what to deal with. Are you familiar with their patterns, weaknesses?"

His engine rumbled a little as he continued to listen to Rex talk. "'Changed'?" he echoed. "You mean the city itself changes? Things that shouldn't be there pop up? And yes... looking out for new arrivals is a very good idea." He certainly remembered how confused and panicked HE was when he arrived. "Are there people to contact who are experienced in introducting new arrivals to the city?"
deusrexmachina: (Chillin'. Just chillin'.)

Rex settled back against the seat as Red Alert began to drive, his fingers laced behind his head. This was a nice change of pace, someone else doing the running while he focused on just looking and listening.

"Oh yeah. I've fought most of them at least a couple of times before on training exercises out in the plains. Plus the EVOs are actually from my version of Earth. My job at home was to keep after them, get them out of populated areas if they ended up there, so I'm one of the people here who knows the most about how they behave and what they can do."

He nodded at the question about the city. "Yep, that's exactly what I mean. Entire buildings can show up here in not much time. They don't call this place 'The City of Change' for nothing, after all. As for new arrivals, we can direct or take any to the Welcome House and give them the usual intro guide."

As Rex settled down, Red Alert increased the sensitivity of his sensors as he turned onto the perimeter road, listening, looking for anything that might be out of place, or dash out into the road, and so forth. So far, nothing dangerous...

"Good. Can you fill me in on these beasts then: appearance, height, strengths, weaknesses? Where do we herd them to when they get into the city? How easy, or difficult, are they to manage?" He really wasn't looking forward to tangling with organic beasts like this. Oh, sure, he would do it, as part of his job and all, but 'wrangling with critters' was something that sounded more up Inferno's or Ironhide's alley.

Red's engine let out a little growl of frustration. "How can anyone get anything done when everything always changes around here?" he muttered lowly to himself. "Even keeping the MAPS up-to-date must be a headache. I've memorized the locations of each of the various Welcome Houses. It is a good thing that those are there. The guide as well. Is there anyone in charge of each Welcome House, to help, or for any questions the new arrivals might have?"
