[The last thing he has time to deal with right now is new arrivals, let alone new arrivals who likely think they're being witty. As if the same old song and dance hasn't been done a thousand times by now.
In what has to be the warmest welcome party ever known, Bones marches right on over and grabs the newcomer by the forearm, attempting to haul him up to his feet.]
If you're gonna show up spouting literature, you could at least make it something that isn't ancient. Believe me, it's been done. Twenty thousand times.

Gee, sorry I can't come up with something more original to say when I'm suddenly yanked out of a shitty army camp in Korea and thrown into some place that looks like it's straight out of a comic book

Comic book, my ass. City's straight out of a goddamn horror--
[He makes quite a show of roughly slapping dirt off of the stranger, but stops in his tracks and fixes him a bewildered look after his words finally catch up to him.]
The army? What century are you from?
no subject
...20th century. What kind of question is that? You from the future or something?
[Not that it's even possible.]

[He runs a hand down his face. Dealing with all the aliens that showed up in Nautilus? Fine. Dealing with humans from ancient history who didn't seem to know a goddamn thing about anything? Slightly more annoying. At least here he doesn't have to try and dodge answering questions about it.]
Yeah. Or something. Year 2260, give or take.
no subject
2260..... That's. Hm. Well, I can't say it's the weirdest thing I've ever heard, but it's definitely up there.

Tell me about it. It only gets worse from here.

[Pierce can't and won't say no to free drinks. He takes the flask and takes a swig, handing it back to him when he's done.]
What even is this place?

[He gives an agitated sigh and rubs at his forehead. How to explain this to someone from the 20th century... well, there's really no good way of doing that, actually. Bones decides to just go all-in.]
...a universal nexus. A hub between worlds. The city pulls folks in because he figures he needs us for somethin'-- what a goddamn sentient city can't do by itself, I don't know. But here we are. Place is called Nautilus.

[He gives the guy a somewhat appraising look-over, though.]
But the city could always use more surgeons. That Bending nonsense is fancy and all, but it's no replacement for real training. Medbay's pretty understaffed these days, anyhow.
