Best rebel android. <3

If only a few simple words of advice could provide that much help to everyone. Leia could sense his gratitude even before he voiced it, and it warmed her, brightening her smile a bit too.

"I know," she said. "I've known from the beginning, though I opted not to bring it up so as not to make you uncomfortable; I've met another android from your world and given what I've learned of it from him, I didn't think it was likely that you'd have any reason to believe you'd be treated as an equal if you knew that I knew."

"But I can assure you that you don't need to worry about your personhood being disrespected here," she said. "If there's one thing Nautilus is good at- and helps its residents become good at, if they're not already-, it's embracing a broad spectrum of sentient life. And that includes the inorganic variety."

There were several things there that got his curiosity piqued. How could she have known he was an android? He didn't think he looked like one, not with the LED gone, and he wasn't wearing the signifier clothes that androids were technically supposed to wear.

"How did you know?" Asks curiously, though still grateful. Even more so now because she didn't care. She knew this whole time that he was an android, and it didn't matter to her. If she knew another android like him, then she must know how much it mattered.

"And... there's another android here, from Detroit?" His eyes widened at that. "What's his name?" There were so many androids, the odds of it being someone he knew were low, he knew that, but the emotion he was feeling felt like hope.

"In my world, certain people have the ability to tap into a type of energy known as 'the Force'," Leia explained. "That ability happens to run particularly strongly in my family. And with time and practice, a Force-sensitive person can learn to use that energy to- among other things- sense certain things about people and their environment that they might otherwise not be able to."

"I haven't had nearly as much practice as some," she continued, "but I am generally able to sense the surface emotions of those around me. I occasionally pick up surface thoughts as well but only if someone is thinking very intensely about that particular thing. What I've noticed in Nautilus though, is that different species have a different overall 'feel' to them. Androids, for example, feel... 'sharper' for lack of a better term. That is, each emotion is more clearly defined than in humans; they don't blend into each other nearly as much."

She actually looked mildly surprised too, at Markus also being from Detroit. She hadn't wanted to assume, knowing how much the odds would be against it; if androids in their world were anywhere near as ubiquitous as droids in hers, they could have easily been from opposite sides of the planet. But it seemed like the odds were significantly better than she'd thought.

"His name's Connor," she said. "He seems pretty determined to believe he's just a machine, even though pretty much everyone else can tell that that's a load of bantha crap and most of us have said as much. Maybe another android will have better luck at convincing him."

Looking at the 100+ comment thread with Connor and laughing at this

This Force thing sounded really handy, actually, and for a moment Markus wished that he had it. That was just a fleeting thing, though, because of course he didn't actually want it. He just wanted the ability to sense things about others, without all the guessing he usually had to do.

No, he had his own power. Not that he considered it a power, being able to turn other androids deviant with a touch, but it was good enough for what he needed. Still, this Force was kind of amazing, and Markus was suitably impressed.

But then she mentions Connor of all androids and the shock on his face is palpable.

"Connor is here?" He asked, shocked, but then confused. "He keeps saying that he's just a machine? But that..." Markus pauses, frowning.

"That makes no sense. Connor... Connor isn't just a machine. He knows that, he... he turned, he broke through. Why would he think that he's a machine now?"

IKR? XD Connor is such a stubborn boy. X3

Yes, the Force was amazing. But like all great powers, it could be both wonderful and terrible by turns. The Skywalker family's history was proof enough of that. Leia did endeavor to make the best of it though.

Leia was even more surprised to find out that Connor and Markus actually knew each other. She wasn't sure whether to blame Nautilus, the Force, or dumb luck, but it might be helpful.

"Assuming it's the same Connor," she said, "it's possible that he's just not there yet. You see, Nautilus is capable of pulling people from any world... and any time. So if he were pulled here from an earlier point on the timeline than you were, he might not have 'broken through' yet, as you put it."
