At the Doctor mentioning someone to imploring people to wake something triggered in a memory. A voice, calling out to her... it was something she would have to think about some more.

"Well, from what you say, I would no longer be considered a new arrival, so your device wouldn't trigger on me, wouldn't you say? Though it should be easy enough to tweak the proximity sensors. What are you asking it to focus on?"

Oh, did she mention she was a scientist?

"You are new enough. The device couldn't have had time to digitally scan you into it's system, so even if it has sent the warning signal to the Observatory I'm afraid it would still fly right at your head if I were to let it go again now."

He doesn't let it go of course, just smiles in that way one does when they find themselves impressed at a question. This Doctor did always enjoy being in the company of fellow scientists.

"It has a crystal memory core that records faces and names. So if it doesn't recognize you then it will consider you a 'new arrival' until it does."

He plucked a small screwdriver from his pocket, opened a hatch on the device, and set about tweaking the settings.

"I could go ahead and input your name if you wouldn't mind terribly telling me what it is?"

"Kate. Kate Stewart," she said with a faint smile. "And I would really rather not be hit again by it, so yes, please do make it recognize me."

She cocked her head. "Crystal core? How easy was that to get hold of here?" It would give her some clues, at least.

"Stewart?"

He paused in his work to lift a curious brow at her but soon settled back in to making the adjustments. After all even if the name was a familiar one many people did have that surname.

"Crystal cores are extremely easy to find here."

By way of demonstration he held a free hand out and bent one up. The small core was a palm sized crystal of the purest dimensions and it appeared merely because he had willed it to.

"A very pretty crystal worthy of becoming a pendant on a necklace but when hooked into the right sort of machinery it can become a very powerful information storage and delivery system. Much better than microchips!

It's called bending. If you remain here any length of time you'll pick it up."
