"I'm not sure what year that would be for you?" he softened at her explanation, enjoying the innocence behind the words. Merlin, he missed being innocent.

"What is that revenge? Nothing that will get you expelled, I hope?" nothing was worth that. Hogwarts was too precious.

"This Professor must have his reasons. But adults can be childish too and hate happens all too frequently between the Houses." he shook his head sadly.

"Well I am only in Second Year now..." the question confused her.

She shook her head, grinning again. "Rowan and I came up with the revenge, best revenge ever. I work extra hard and make sure every assignment is done perfectly. The look on his face when he has to GIVE Ravenclaw points is wonderful. And I am also utterly honest when asked questions in class. Which just last week meant he had to give Marula a punishment because she broke into our common room to frame me, and my honesty held up better than her lies!" She was thrilled about this, okay? "My best revenge will be when Rowan and I are announced to be the best students of the year at the end of year feast. I know Professor Dumbledore doesn't do things like that, but we'll get such good grades the headmaster will have to make an exception for us! You'll see!" She is utterly unaware of the bombshell she just dropped there.

"Penny gets amazing grades in potions, she's a natural. So she helps me and Rowan with our studies. And Ben is afraid of EVERYTHING so he usually is alert for what might be a dangerous ingredient to add, so we double check all our work. We make a good team when we study together!"

"That wasn't what I meant... What year is it for you? Time feels unsettled in this place." he motioned around them vaguely.

Only to freeze a moment later.

Professor...Dumbledore? His cheeks heat and he couldn't stop himself from smiling.

"Professor Dumbledore is the Headmaster?" his expression grew and he laughed, "I'm sure you will be an exception!"

The joy in his chest was like a bird that longed to take to the open skies.

"Forgive me, but is Professor Dumbledore's first name Albus, by chance?"

Please say yes.

"Oh." She told him the year, confused about how time could feel unsettled. The odd expression on her face confused her and she studying him. A time turner? Or had the Cursed Vaults sent her not just through space but... time? Oh! That must be it!

She nodded a bit. "Yes, professor Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts. If you don't mind my asking... did the Vaults send me back to the past, perhaps?" Was she going to be an old lady before she saw her friends and family again?

"Or I've been sent into the future." he murmured, a little overwhelmed by what she had just revealed, "I suppose now would be the best time to introduce myself... I'm Albus Dumbledore, your...to-be...Headmaster."

Just much, much younger. He was only in his early twenties.

She stared at him, stunned. "Pr...professor Dumbledore! I... I'm sorry sir, I didn't...."

She sighed. "If I am in the past, did I just mess up my own timeline by telling you your future, sir?" she asked softly, head drooping.

"No, no, don't worry. It is a dream of mine to be a Professor and then, eventually, a Headmaster. I'm thrilled I achieve it!" he laid a hand on her shoulder to comfort her, "I must look very different."

She nodded, still ashamed of herself. "Yes sir, I didn't recognize you at all without the beard and glasses." She swallowed then looked up at him. "I used to wish I had a time turner powerful enough to send me back to before my brother vanished so I could save him but... trying is just as likely to ensure he does vanish, isn't it?"

"It's best not to change the past." he shook his head, "Things happen for a reason - even if it is exceptionally painful for us to endure. Focus on the present and what you can do now."

Look at him. He was a natural teacher.

Sadly I have been unable to icon her unhappy faces, working on it, lol.

"Except... that in my present... I am interacting with the past....."

"How so? Are you using a Time Turner?"

That would be a poor idea and Albus was openly concerned.

"No sir. I... I meant by talking to you before you're/// well... the you I know, sir."

"...ah. Well it can't be helped. You didn't do it on purpose."

Maybe it was meant to be this way?

"Meeting you, no... but if I keep talking to you, then that is a choice and I could be messing things up. But... you're the only person I know who might have an idea how to get me back to my own time..." she said, softly.

"Then let's not worry about it." he gave her a smile, "If you tell me no more about the future, we should be safe."
