It's All About Big Brother!

(Inspired by recent events in Nautilus and Alba's Dark Future memes.)

Dystopian Future
Change is a thing of the past

What is this?

Those shouting "Conspiracy!" were actually right in the end. Unopposed but by a few, the government continued to grow. In the end, they won.

How did that happen?

Despite the best efforts of Crawford, Leslie, V and anyone else who disagreed with the government, they were swiped aside as more and more laws were enacted. Soon, there were restrictions and regulations placed on Bending. But laws are difficult to enforce when everyone can shape reality. With time, they were able to regulate it. How they managed to lock down the Heart, no one could say. It took time. At first, Bending just took more effort. But over the course of a year, it grew harder and harder. New regulations came out. With special permissions, Bending was possible, but getting the permissions proved difficult. Because of this, a proper economy began to blossom. But stricter and stricter regulations were enacted, making it more difficult for people to live the way they'd grown accustomed to in Nautilus.

Where do we stand, now?

Fifteen years have passed since the government was first set up. Corruption and a thirst for power led to Bending being completely abolished, save for those in the highest levels of government and those of the special enforcement teams. And even then, it is limited. They were able to lock it down even to the point of preventing those deceased from returning. The only thing they could not prevent is people from other worlds answering the call sent out so long ago. Propaganda began to spread, using the name of Nautilus as some sort of great leader, reminding everyone that the city was watching them. Anyone found trying to Bend or using canon powers would be captured and re-educated. There were rumors that even a mere thought against the government could earn someone a stay in the facility at the center of the city. Kalliste is a wasteland, housing a handful of refugees. Helix remains the only last strong-hold against Nautilus. But the gate between the two cities has been sealed for years. Propaganda suggests that those left in Helix are nothing but brutal savages and should be avoided at all costs and that Kalliste is an uninhabitable wasteland.

Where does this leave us?

The forces in Helix have been decimated. Whether captured and re-educated, executed or killed in battle. Resources are scarce. In the city, resources have always been scarce. People are allowed the bare minimum, the entire city reduced to little better than poverty. There are jobs now. Most jobs are at the Ministry, but some are in shops, providing people their meager needs in exchange for their meager income.

What can we do?

That is entirely up to you, Wakened! Where do you stand?

1. Tag with your character explaining their current status. Note in the subject what city they are in.
2. People tag you and you start to threading either action posts or network posts.
3. The Government is watching. Especially the network.
4. Bending is unavailable to everyone except those on the special task force or high up in the government.
5. Canon powers are on, unless you're caught using them.

Note: This is styled after the book 1984, so drawn any inspiration you would like from that. The "Thought Police" for this really can read thoughts. So anyone on the task force have gained that ability.

Status: Re-educated, living in Nautilus.
What Happened to Her: After stirring up trouble, she made an error in resistance and was captured. She was re-educated and thrown back onto the streets on Nautilus to live a normal life. She works a shop, now, and every so often visits Wendy, but very little of the snarky British woman remains inside.

YOU'LL WAKE THE THOOOOOOUGHT POLICE

Status: Alive, living in Kalliste but returns to Nautilus frequently to try and destroy the government.
What Happened to Her: Never being a big fan of governments, it was obvious which side she would choose. Either she's too stupid or too stubborn to realize her actions might be futile, as she keeps trying to reopen the heart. Has almost been caught a few times but managed to escape (probably by some sort of space pirate government tuuuuube system). However, without bending her suit is slowly breaking down with no repairs, and who knows how long she'll still have it.

Status: Alive, a member of the Thought Police.
What Happened to Her: Feeling that the government was doing good, she readily allowed it to go too far before she realized it was too late. She tried to resist, but was either re-educated or realized the uselessness of it all. Acquiring a position similar to what she did at UNIT, she makes an okay living doing something she really doesn't like. But hey, that's what most people in life do anyway right? Right?

What Happened to Him: Living an okay life in Nautilus giving information to the highest bidder from either side (this is what he seems to do best okay). He's not exactly for the government, but has been scanned repeatedly with no ill intent towards it. The government pretty much just barely tolerates him as he can be helpful with their cause.

THIS IS OUT OF CONTROOOOL

What Happened to Her: Slowly turning towards her dark destiny, Luna succumbed to the whims of the government and used her powers of control through song to help them. Pretty much full-on evil now. Not much else other than she's also sort of CRAAAZY.

What Happened to Him: Government intent on controlling every aspect of the people to "protect" them from hurting themselves. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, fucking Templars. Safe to say Ezio was not a fan of their work and tried his hardest to fight against it. However, when they got too tough to take head-on, he slunk into the shadows and was never seen or heard from again. Perhaps he's out there doing his part for humanity, or maybe he's fucking dead in a ditch. The world may never know.

Status: Alive, skulking Nautilus.
What Happened to Him: When things started to go south, he already had a bad feeling about what was going on. Having always been one to rely more on the skills he's learned and brought with him from his homeworld over Bending, he hasn't had any trouble in getting around the newly enforced rules- but that doesn't mean he likes how things have gone. He keeps a low profile, keeping an eye and ear out for the goings on, trying to keep track of things the way a thief looks for every weak link in security systems.

What Happened to Him: Demyx figured out pretty quickly that this government was bad news, but didn't want to leave his friends stuck in Nautilus with it. So he moved out with the intent to drag them along with him... only the Thought Police found him first. He knocked out the entire batch that caught him, only to run into a completely unrelated group shortly after that took care of him.

Status: Alive, location ALWAYS changing
What Happened to Him: The Doctor isn't a huge fan of most governments to begin with, so when this one went downhill he got out fast. However, that hardly stops him from showing up and throwing a wrench in the system whenever he can. Which is often. The government doesn't like him very much.

Status: Alive, in Nautilus, running the name-edited Church of Nautilus.

What happened to him:
At first he was not in opposition to the laws, thinking that maybe they would reduce the violence and increase safety and peace. But as it became clear that these restrictions created misery, poverty, wretchedness… all those vices that the city had previously been free of, he felt compelled to advocate for changing the laws, but not yet against the government. As things became worse, he became more vocal, moving more into Wesleyan style demands for mercy, justice and care for the poor. He took to preaching on street corners.

Church attendance increased, as well as a soup kitchen, a shelter, and other service efforts. When he went from easily ignored to a possible problem, he was re-educated. The church was changed to a more government friendly form of opiate to the masses with a new theology that favors leaving things as they are. For the most part, he is happy now, in a hazy intent on ministering to the poor kind of way, but his constant concerns with the quality of life of Nautilus keep leading to re-education sessions whenever his sermons get too deep.

[He's probably not an unfamiliar face to take advantage of the shelter, and now and then he slips in to attend mass, although most likely so he can watch people. It's gotten to a point that he knows what to look for when a person's been re-educated, at least in regards to poor WJ.]

What happened to her: Anomie's always been off-the-radar, really, so she's easy to over look. With her canon powers to become like what she pretends to be and without bending back memories, she just spirals into a relatively harmless insanity. Now she lives on the streets and hides in a dumster from the adults.
