"I appreciate that." She snickered lightly. All things in due time, yes. Small steps were key! "So, how far away is your diner from here? So that I know for any future visitations I may—" or rather would! "—make?"
memories_of_me: (Oh do continue)

"We can head over now, if you would like to see. It is not far, though I will warn you, my diner boarders a wood, I found a place for you further than that forest, but past my dinner, into the tree line... it can get dangerous there. It isn't a place to be wandering, scenic as it may appear."

[personal profile] waterfield 2018-02-12 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I see." She made a mental note: the woods might appear to be beautiful but they could be dangerous. As such, she might avoid them at all costs. It was safer to be away from them, it seemed. Dire cases only would be what pushed her to going into them.

"I think it might be a good idea to sort out how to get there from here anyway, far or not. That way I can memorize the path between there and here."
memories_of_me: (Alright I'll give you that one)

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-02-12 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
"That makes a lot of sense, my dear." She held out a key. "So you can lock up."

"Oh!" In just that one little word there was a lot of emotion: thrill! She'd be able to lock the door after all. The night previous had been spent a little rattled since it wasn't capable of being locked. Fortunately, nothing happened and no one had walked in on her but a home for a young lady would certainly need a suitable lock. Thank goodness! With a polite thank you, Victoria accepted the key and slid it into her pocket protectively. She would be exceptionally responsible with it. Losing it would be horrible after all.

"Thank you very much, shall we get going?" Per usual, it would be up to her aunt to lead the way! Maybe someday she could lead her around. ( Unlikely. )

She led the way out and waited for her to lock the door, all but beaming with pride, it would seem. "I am the only other person with a key to this door, but if you feel uncomfortable with that, I will give you my key as well." In other words, Victoria could have the ultimate say over who is and is not allowed in her home.

Locking the door felt very good for some reason. She was pleased with herself but listened as she was spoken to once more. It seemed she was being granted divinity over the house that her aunt had given to her and while was deeply appreciated and even made her feel trustworthy, she shook her head.

"I think I would greatly prefer that you have the spare, there isn't really anyone else that I would trust with it. You located the home for me, I think it fitting that you should be the holder of the spare."

"Thank you, dear. I will take good care of it. This way," she turned and started leading her towards the diner.

Nodding, Victoria practically skipped after Maddie — she didn't really, just almost. It might have been a whole new world with new rules and new strangeness to it, but she wasn't alone. That factor was monumental for her. Maddie was someone she trusted utterly so being with her caused things to become lower on the scale of dire terror. She wandered with her toward the diner, taking note of things to see so she could better familiarize herself with the walk and just like her auntie had told her, it wasn't all that great a distance away. Good, so now she knew where to go if she needed to find her in a pinch. Or just to spend time with her.

Victoria raised her head to look over the outside of the diner and then turned her attention onto her aunt. "Do you own this diner all by yourself, Aunt Maddie?"

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-02-12 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
She gave a small chuckle. "This is a very different world than 1800s Earth, my dear. Yes, I own and run this place myself. Something I never could have had in our little town, I fear. But here? this is all mine. Mine to shovel out after the snow, mine to open and close when I feel like it, mine to run how I wish to run it. And mine to welcome you into it." She unlocked the front door and held it for her.

"And then 1960s too, really." She smiled. Things were so very different everywhere, it seemed. But she was proud of her aunt and her accomplishments. "That's amazing, Auntie! Frank and Maggie would be just as proud of you as I am!"

She wasn't touching that second date bait with a ten foot pole. But she hugged the girl. "That means a lot coming from you, my dear."

"It's quite an inspiration, really. You're someone to aspire to be," Victoria returned the hug with a smile. "What is it like inside?"

"Come on in and see." She let her in, with a warm smile. Kitchy. What was Retro to most here wouldn't seem so to Victoria, but still interesting to be sure. She pointed to the door with Elvis on it. "The restrooms and large kitchen are through there. I've found myself quite territorial over the kitchen these days, so I'd appreciate not having anyone in there, it's the door that is locked, which should make it obvious enough. Smaller kitchen is here, in front, and you're welcome in this one so long as you are careful of the knives and flat top. I'll not be explaining to your mother why you got hurt, alright?"
waterfield: ʀᴇʟɪᴇғ (➦ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ʙᴇ ᴏᴋᴀʏ)

[personal profile] waterfield 2018-02-14 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
She raised her brows as she looked around. The inside was really nice, it reminded her of the diners back in the Harris' time. Elvis was still popular in 1963 — even Victoria listened to some of this records. She smiled to the decorations and explored a little, though was careful to listen to what her aunt was saying. The kitchen was locked? Victoria nodded.

"I won't go in there, I promise." Especially since she had been asked not to go in there. She wasn't very good at cooking anyway so practicing cooking in the smaller kitchen might be easier for her. She swallowed as she was given a warning about the knives and the heat of the machines. "I- I won't touch them without express permission, Auntie."

"Good, you're a good girl, so I know that I can trust you." She kissed her temple, then put on the hot water kettle. "How about I make us some tea and we can start in on Bending?"

Victoria felt heat rise to her cheeks at the compliment but accepted it with silent embarrassment. Looking around, she lowered herself into one of the booths and nodded to her aunt. Tea would be lovely, she absolutely adored it. The warmth of it was always so inviting.

"I think that to be a rather reasonable plan, Aunt Maddie." She was pretty giddy to see the Bending thing in action!
memories_of_me: (Alright I'll give you that one)

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-02-15 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"What sort of tea are you in the mood for today? This place has provided me quite the selection," she lied easily. Whatever kind Victoria wanted, she would Bend up, but it wasn't something she'd found in her notes, the kind of tea preferred.

[personal profile] waterfield 2018-02-17 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Any sort of tea would do her just fine, really, but given the choice she had to go with a nice, sweet peach variation. She set her palms to the table in front of herself to pat it gently and smiled to her aunt.

"I think a nice peach tea would be delicious, do you have any?" Little did she know that bending would occur to get it though, honestly, she should have thought about that since Maddie had made it clear that things could be acquired by that means. Still, it wasn't something on her mind. She was still busy taking in everything in the diner and enjoying being somewhere safe for a spell.
memories_of_me: (Talking at the end of the universe)

Never a worry!

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-02-17 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
She set up a sweet peach herbal tea to steep. "Of course, dear one. Something to eat as well?"

"Oh, ah, maybe. What sort of things do you sell here to eat, usually? Is there a menu?" She could have probably thought up anything at all and her aunt could have used bending to make it a reality. But! If she was going to be in the diner, she might as well look into what was properly sold, right?

Ah, so it was mostly bending. That got a laugh out of her, though. She shifted in her seat and nodded to her aunt. "I think perhaps just some eggs, bacon and toast perhaps?" At least she hadn't asked for a full English breakfast.
