"Wait, Conan-kun?" This wasn't someone Masumi had thought she would see here, but at least she recognized someone here. "I just woke up and found myself here. Where are we?"

As calm as she was trying to be, there was definitely a trace of worry in her tone. What would happen if she couldn't get back home?

He'd known it was possible for other people from his own world to show up here, of course. He just hadn't expected it to actually happen, after all the months he'd been here alone.

"This is Nautilus. There are a lot of people here who arrived just like that."

Now explaining what Nautilus was... that was going to be a challenge.

"Nautilus, huh?" It was nice to know the name of this place, even if Masumi still had no idea where Nautilus was.

"...So you're saying that people just wake up here with no idea how they got here? Something doesn't seem right with that." Saying that she wasn't exactly alone with that was less than comforting, and was in fact extremely concerning. What was going on here?

"That's the short of it," he agrees. "It is possible to head home from here, but it won't be the same any more. That's the reason most people stay here after they wake up."

He'd tried to go home, just after arriving here. It had taken weeks to force his mind to accept the workings of the gates, and even after all the effort he'd found staying in Beika City impossible. He couldn't live his life as an observer, watching his life pass by without any ability to change things.

"It won't be the same? Why not?" Why wouldn't it be the same anymore? Taking a deep breath, Masumi struggled to compose herself before she panicked.

"...It's just that I can't leave right now, that's all." She still had things to do, like helping her mom out. Masumi really didn't want to abandon everyone simply because of something out of her control.

He could offer explanations. He could say that time didn't pass at home while they were here. That even if they returned home, they were little more than observers of their own lives. But...

He shakes his head.

"You wouldn't believe me. I wouldn't believe me, if I hadn't experienced it for myself. Come on, I'll show you to the way out of here."

"Thanks, Conan-kun." Masumi smiled, trying to avoid thinking about what might happen once she got home, given it apparently 'wouldn't be the same'.

"...How long have you been here?" It was something that was bugging her, given that she hadn't exactly expected someone she knew to be here as well.

"More than a year now." It had been a very. very long year.

And he was fairly certain this was one of those things she'd have a hard time believing, considering it hadn't been nearly that long in their world's time since they'd met.

“A year?” Okay, the obviously wrong statement meant this was probably a weird dream or something. There was no way Conan had been here for more than a year.

“That can’t be right. I saw you pretty recently at home.” Even if this was a dream, or whatever this was, Masumi could still go along with it for now.
