Oh, he'd had a family forged through friendship. The Lorax, the animals, heck, even Melvin---and he'd thrown it away. In the beginning for the first few scraps of affection and pride his mother had ever thrown his way---and then for the money and the fame and the biggering---
Once's expression was filled with self-loathing.
"I deserve to rot alone. Unless."
Not sure what that Unless means there, so Agatha is ignoring it, lol.
It's the word the Lorax left for him--
"I eradicated an entire ecosystem. I wiped an entire species of tree off the face of the earth, ruined the food source for countless animals, and have polluted the local water source to the point where it could literally catch fire and burn for the next fifty years.
The land is poisoned. Nothing is ever going to grow there again. The kids in the city I built are never going to see real nature, only the fake things I designed and built to put in their place."
Once-ler shook his head and grit his teeth. He hadn't intended on sharing quite so much, but, no....no, he deserved having everyone know his shame. Everyone knowing his absolute folly.
"I'm working on ways to fix it, of course..." he muttered. "But, the damage is too severe. The soil kills anything I try to put into it. What I've done is going to take years....at the very least."
Wow I had forgotten. It has been way too long.
She was thinking hard, though, an odd glint coming into her eyes. If they could lower the toxicity in the soil they could gene-splice some hardier plants to get that part restarted. Water... she could build a filter, the question would be what to do with what it filtered out. The hardest part was probably the extinct species. Even recreating them as monster-trees wouldn't be exactly the same... but it could come close.
Hm......
no problem
The Lorax's disappointment hurt even worse than his mother's. His mother was disappointed the cash was gone. The Lorax had expected better from him.
"I broke so many promises."
His gray-blue eyes flickered for a moment with regret and pain. "Ah, but, you know what they say about beggars and horses and wishes. I'm still a pretty crummy person. To put it mildly."
