Hogarth Hughes | The Iron Giant

[Hogarth has found himself in the Northern District, and while he'd normally be on his feet exploring, the area is so wide and expansive that he's not exactly sure where to start.
And the fog lazily swirling all around isn't helping much. He figures sticking to where he's sitting on a dusty rock until the fog clears a bit is the best idea. ..For now.

That isn't stopping him from looking around from where he is. This area seems so....empty. So deserted, for some reason. It's a bit unnerving.
It's so quiet that if someone tried to walk up on him he'd hear them, at least. ...Rather, he thinks he would.]

[In the fog, a large figure stands nearby. Tall and slender. But golden eyes are the most apparent through the thick fog, looking straight at Hogarth, just a few yards away.]

Lost, are we?

[dontwigout]

[Hogarth can't help but jump a little, startled. His hand tightens its grip around the pebble he'd been rolling around between his fingers, and after a pause he cautiously stands- never taking his eyes off the figure, of course.]

M'not...lost.

Just restin'.

[No he is absolutely lost.]

[That figure suddenly disappears... and if Hogarth paid close attention, his own shadow shifts and shudders on the ground. It literally grows taller across the ground, forming that same tall slender figure from just seconds before.]

Resting? Of course you are.

[dontwigout]

[Blinking, Hogarth pulls his legs up onto the rock when he spots his shadow shifting, stiffening when he feels his heart suddenly race a bit on its own accord. That's...odd.]

...Yeah. I am.

[He looks over his shoulder, but he doesn't see anyone there. Of course he wouldn't, but that's just all the more unnerving.]

Tired then? You don't look very fatigued.

[The shadow commented as he gestures to Hogarth's form.]

You're not afraid of a little fog are you?

[ He thinks he would, but then Jack Frost is light on his feet, and quiet as a cat as he lights on the rock behind Hogarth. The most warning he'll get is maybe a stirring of the wind before there's a pale face leaning over him from behind. What with the white hair, he almost blends into the mist. ]

Are you lost, or do you just like sitting on rocks in the middle of nowhere staring into the fog?

Woah geeze-!!

[The boy exclaims and jumps, but luckily he thinks of bracing himself with his hands against the back of the rock before he has a chance to go toppling off of it.

After recovering from the initial shock of discovering he's not exactly alone in the place he was convinced was deserted, he makes a face at Jack, pulling one of his legs up on the rock closer to his chest.]

I'm not....I'm not lost. ...I've just been exploring and I'm uhh...

...taking a break. You know.

[And by exploring he means yes, he's totally lost.]

Really?

[ Now he's going to jump over Hogarth's head and drop his staff. It lands upright and stays like that, held by some supernatural force; he lands on it and perches, like a bird, now in front of Hogarth and facing him. And grinning mischievously. ]

'Cause this doesn't seem like very good exploring weather to me.

[dontwigout]

[Hogarth watches Jack for a second, squinting, before lifting both of his legs up onto the rock. Ok, that was impressive.]

Yea really. What about you? ...What're you doin' in a place like this?

[What a silly question though. What was anyone doing here? Hogarth is just trying to figure that out for the most part, and getting the answers he's been looking for hasn't been easy.]

Me? I'm just chillin'. [ Haha, Jack. Punny. ] I've been here a while, mostly because there's nowhere else to really go. It's kind of an alternate dimension you're in.

[Sure, if someone walked up to him he'd probably hear it. But...what if someone say...plowed into him while riding a small whirling ball of air. Would Hogarth hear that coming?]

[Hear, feel, same difference right?

Either way, Hogarth quickly finds himself sent careening from the rock with a loud cry of surprise, and there's nothing he can do to stop himself from colliding with the ground either, kicking up a nice flurry of dust in the process. Along with a very Hogarth-shaped impression in the cloud of fog just in front of the boulder.]

Ow...

[Groaning he pushes himself up, shaking his head before running his fingers through his hair. What was that?]

[Depending on how quickly Hogarth rights himself, he may just spy a small kid about his age wearing saffron and gold monk's robes flopping end over end onto the ground.]

....oof.

[The kid's head is covered by the capelet of his robes, but that doesn't stop one arm from raising as he proclaims:]

i'm okay!

..That makes one of us.

[Hogarth grumbles to himself before standing, brushing himself off before calling out.]

Hey! What's the big idea, huh?

[Aang crawls up onto his knees before airbending his capelet back, and then further airbending himself to a standing position. Once he's on his feet he's looking around for the source of the voice.]

Sorry! I didn't see you there, and I haven't gotten all of my waterbending back so...I didn't see you.

Do you need a hand?

[fuckinstoplights]

[Poor kid. Don't you know Nautilus is no place for people to go wandering unescorted? You never know what you might find, lurking in the fog. Watching. Waiting for the unwary.]

[...]

[Fortunately, Kagerou isn't really one of those things. He's a stalker, sure, but he's a big manchild in a robot's body.]

[An unfamiliar human being, then, is a prime target for observation. He lands on a nearby building, close enough to see the boy, though somewhat obscured by fog.]

[dontwigout]

[Manchild in a robot's body, huh? ...Sounds a bit like what he's used to. ..Sortof.

Still, he does hear the echoing thud made from when Kagerou lands, and it causes him to look up with a frown, dropping the stone he'd been rolling around between his fingers.

He doesn't get up, but he does call out, breaking the silence.]

Hello...?

[fuckinstoplights]

[The lurking figure on the rooftop doesn't respond immediately. He just steps closer to the edge, peering down.]

[The scanner over one eye flashes red, in the mist.]

Who are you?

[dontwigout]

[The boy winces, lifting a hand to shield his eyes from the light for a second.]

....Hogarth. ....Who are you?

[fuckinstoplights]

... Kagerou.

[He still doesn't move from the roof yet, but crouches down for a better look.]

You aren't familiar.

[unrobot]

[Not too deserted.

In fact, part of the scenery is moving.

Or is it his imagination?]

[Hogarth lifts his head a bit, frowning. ...Huh. Must be his imagination, because he's pretty sure he was alone when he got here...]

[unrobot]

[Yes. That's it. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Unless his imagination makes things look like this, anyway.]

[Hogarth frowns harder, tossing the pebble he'd been holding up and down a bit in his palm.

Then, without warning, he throws it into the distance with a grunt.]
