[ Oh how it did some what irate to have to admit this. ]

Maybe you would have an easier time remembering me if I were several feet shorter, carried a recorder about that I could barely play, and bore a strong resemblance to a scarecrow.

[ Now, now, Doctor... he could also hear his younger self chastising him now. Still it would have been worth it to see his expression, unfortunately he feared that might only have further confused Victoria.]

( that was an apt description if there ever was one about the doctor — her doctor — but the small girl still had a bit of a hard time believing him. changing faces? that seemed rather ... well, crazy to be frank. )

That recorder wasn't so bad, really... ( still, things felt very confusing and she wasn't thrilled about how much her head was beginning to hurt. a new world and a new face — it was too much. wasn't this why she had pleaded to be left behind in the first place? ) Sir, I really don't mean to argue. You might be a doctor, certainly, but not the Doctor. ( not her doctor. though he had clearly met the man before. )

[ With a sigh he placed a hand to his face to puzzle out this problem. ]

Let's see... how could I convince you. Jamie and I both agreed to take you with us in the TARDIS after we rescued you from the Daleks.

[ Should he mention the dead parents? No. That was a touch too disturbing with her already worked up. ]

You decided to leave us when you met the Harris's. Now what year was that... 1968, I think.

( definitely not mentioning her parents, that was a good choice. considering she left them to remain with the harris' since she wanted — or rather craved — a family. she furrowed her brow though. he was rattling off details that were about her life, yes, but ... )

Y- Yes, but I don't understand... What- What happened to you? ( or jamie for that matter... ) You can't really expect me to believe you're the Doctor! You've changed completely! How is that even possible?

[ She would ask about that. He knew it was coming but it wasn't exactly his most shining moment in the sun. ]

We ran into a bit of trouble on our journey and I was forced to call in the Time Lords. That solved the issue but unfortunately... since I had been on the run from them for years. Unauthorized 'borrowing' of the TARDIS and my tendency to become involved in the affairs of other planets are both crimes on Gallifrey. I was given a trial, if you can can it that, sentenced to exile on Earth, and forced to regenerate into a new face.

[ At that last part he smiled. He hadn't been happy about that at the time but...]/small>

Overall it's not a bad new face is it? I think it's actually quite distinguished.

( exile? but who would want to exile the doctor. he was such a silly old man. there wasn't any reason to punish him. he was always doing ~~mostly~~ good things ~~in the end~~! her frown only served to worsen. regenerate? she knew the word obviously but she hadn't ever heard of it being applied to a person before. )

They... forced you to alter yourself completely? How barbaric! ( it was probably better that she didn't realize what regeneration technically meant. she wasn't all too familiar with the information about time lords either. she hadn't really been about with the doctor and jamie long enough to get the full stint on whom he was. and she'd been a rather young little thing when mucking about with them. not that she was much older now. ) What do you mean, Time Lord? Are they some sort of ... Gods or something?

( oh, but — she looked over his face and a softness touched her own features — it wasn't bad, no. )

It... It's not a bad face, no. It's really quite dapper, actually.

[ He may even have used the word barbaric at his trial but it was difficult to remember all of the details now. That all happened several years ago for him.]

I suppose I never really explained much about myself. That sounds typical of him.

[ Him being the second Doctor. Oh he liked the little guy, mostly, but he did know how to press three's buttons. ]

I should certainly think so, yes. Forcing one to do something so... ( she'd already called it barbaric though so he knew her stance on it issue. apparently there wasn't much to be done about it though. the doctor — her doctor — hadn't much had time to get into himself with her. she hadn't really granted it. her time with him was rather short as she wasn't keen to live in a near constant state of fear.

the doctor himself was among the time lords? she supposed, if she thought about it, that didn't sound so very wrong. he was able to go through time and space after all. and if he'd grown up on another planet... well, it wasn't as though victoria had no experience with aliens. daleks chief among them it seemed. ) You mean to say that it was your own people who did that to you? Who forced you to... I- I'm so sorry. ( he didn't seem to be in ill health about it though. he seemed rather fine. perkier than he uesd to be, even! )

Is... Is Jamie still with you? ( she had hated leaving him. both him and the doctor, of course, but with that budding crush... she frowned. he hadn't been left alone, had he? )

Jamie was with me when we were brought to Gallifrey but you see aliens aren't actually supposed to visit the planet. He was sent home to his own time with no memories or ever having traveled with us.

[ And you thought the forced regeneration was bad! Having old friends forced to forget all about you was perhaps the hardest part of all. ]

I did see that he and Zoe, you never met her I think, were doing well. The Time Lords allowed that much before they sent me to Earth.

( no... memories... that meant he had no idea about — her. that hurt. that hurt a lot. her fingers gripped at her shirt and she told herself to remain steady on her feet because there was nothing to do about it. literally. even if she knew where to find him she wasn't going to be able to force their time together back on him. now was she? )

[ A took a step forward, hesitated, and then put a hand on her shoulder. ]

[ At least he hadn't mentioned Jamie had been in the middle of a battle when last seen. ]

( at least there was that. it would have been all the more crushing to know that he'd been sent back to a time where... well, it hardly mattered.

[ He reached into his pocket for a handkerchief and presented it to her. ]

[ He said nothing for a while, just stood there being as supportive as he could be while she worked some of these emotions out. ]

( exceedingly unfortunate. she gingerly took the kerchief from him to dab at her eyes, mentally chastising herself for breaking apart ~~AGAIN~~ in front of the doctor. surely he was quite used to it by now but it always seemed as though she were either terrified or sobbing when he was near.

victoria did appreciate the support though. it was rather sweet of him which, while her doctor was quite nice to her, felt very different at the same time. she sniffled gently and clenched the kerchief in her palms. a frown touched her features anew. ) I don't really know, I'm afraid. I recall being at home and then... and then I heard someone asking me to wake up. I must have fallen asleep you see. And- And well now I've turned up here. I thought for a moment it might be your ship again!

[ That she wouldn't have been called? Victoria deserve the normal family life she wanted not this crazy one. ]

If Nautilus has called you here then I'm afraid you are trapped here in this city. Just for a time. It needn't be a long stay. If you can get the gates to work for you then returning home should be very easy but it does require a lot of willpower.

( that was her desperate desire, too. she had wanted to remain with the harris' not only to avoid being terrified every other moment but because she longed for a normal family. her own had... gone. the harris' had no child and they had so much love to give. and she did in turn.

she grimaced as he spoke because even with the promise of helping her: this situation felt very negative. and then he broke the news that she was trapped and she felt as though she might cry anew. to avoid it, she bit onto her lip rather hard. this wasn't fair — she had already faced enough trials and loss in her short life. wasn't that enough? )

Wh- What do you mean? I can still get back to the Harris'? ( a glimmer of hope! perhaps all wasn't quite as lost as she thought. ) Willpower? I have an abundance of that when it comes to the Harris', there isn't anywhere else I'd rather be, really! Isn't that enough?

There are four gates locate around the city. All we have to do to discover if you can return home is get you to one of them.

[ He looked about trying to decide which one was the closest. ]

I think the Northern Gate is where we should go but, now this it very important, there are certain dangers in that area. If you should see an angel statue you mustn't touch it. Make certain you stare at it and don't blink. It's absolutely essential that you don't blink.

Y- You think so? ( that glimmer of hope was getting more expansive by the moment! her smile brightened a little even though her insides were still twisted and upset about the news ~~about jamie~~ about being stuck. ) I'd whatever I possibly could if it meant I could return to Mister and Missus Harris!

( again, she fell silent, because listening to the doctor tended to be what saved her outright from the messes she got herself into. that and a certain scot running to her shrieking aid. angels? that felt... ominous. ) Why mustn't I blink around a statue though? It's just a statue, right?

[ With an almost fatherly smile he gave the shoulder he had been holding this entire time a little approving squeeze. She could get those gates to work! She had to be able to.]

These creatures are most definitely not just statues. If one of them touches you they could send you forwards in time, making you an old women, or back in time, turning you back into a...

[ Child, well she was one already. ]

( the praise was sweet and the gesture was as well. it was appreciated more than anything else. she would do whatever it took for her to be able to get those blasted gates to work. returning home to her family was a priority!

she couldn't help but to give him a most bizarre look as reaction to his reasoning for her not to look at the angels. or rather not to blink. ) A- A baby! We can't blame everything on the Time Lords.

[ However tempting it might be given everything she had just learned. ]

They are an entirely separate species that sustains itself by feeding on the time energy of it's victims, those it sends forwards or backwards in time.

( and she frowned. she certainly hadn't meant to make him think she thought everything was to blame on his race. it was just that victoria wasn't so good with space and time. the doctor was the only person she knew who could travel in it with his amazing ship. so the angels, she thought, might have been some relation is all. like a distant ~~unwanted~~ cousin. ) I apologize... that- that isn't what I meant to imply at all.

( she paused. when he explained them in that capacity there was clearly a difference and her guilt only grew. ) That sounds horrible.

[ Instant regret. That frown just didn't belong there at all. He was trying to cheer her up or... at least give her something to hope for and instead he had made her frown. ]

[ He took a step indicated the direction they needed to go in. ]

I'd rather like not to see one at all. ( they didn't sound very pleasant and she wasn't sure that she wanted to accidentally bump into one. suppose terror took over and she just shut her eyes completely? what would happen then? she'd cease to be whom she was at this very moment! that was a frightening thought for sure.

still, her guilt was there and she felt just awful for what she'd implied without meaning to. the doctor seemed to shake it off though. at least he wasn't quite as offended as she might have thought. that was a relief. )

Lead the way then, Doctor. ( just like old times. she had missed them, of course, but not enough to want them back. how funny a thing time could be. )
