Oops! She had no idea that she'd just caused some problems for her aunt. She just assumed that a book she enjoyed would be easy to locate considering that Victoria didn't realize "Maddie" wasn't actually herself.

"Thank you for everything, aunt Maddie."

"Very well, aunt Maddie." A smile, she expected that it might be some bit of time, so Victoria could take the time to look around the small safe haven ( as she chose to call it ) before Maddie would return. "I will be here waiting!"

Where else would she be, after all! She certainly had no plans to leave. It should be disastrous if she did.

She nodded and left. She got herself out of sight, then used Bending to create a large suitcase, and started Bending up blankets, pillows, and a few changes of clothes for Victoria, modeled after what the girl was currently wearing. She stashed that and ran to the Tardis, quickly trying to find any journals from that time and pull them. She found one from a few years before, which told her nothing about Maddie, but reminded her some about the time period on a quick scan.

From there, she ran to the library, grabbing a few books that looked at a glance like they might b from the time period, and went back to the suitcase to add them all in. Then she brought her heart rate down, cleaned herself up, and headed back towards Victoria, dragging the suitcase behind her.

Victoria, for her part, meandered about the safe haven — looking through some various trinkets before gingerly lowering herself to wait on a chair. It wasn't the same as being in her own room at the Harris home but it was somewhere to hide for the moment, so she would definitely take it. She puffed a breath from her lips, leaning back to try and let herself calm down. It was difficult to let herself relax though. There were a lot of things racing through her mind — like whether or not she could get back to her home and if the Doctor was nearby somewhere. Were the latter true then she assumed things could get bleak at any moment in time.

With a little more thought she realized she thought that with or without the Doctor's presence.

Her fingers balled into fists within her lap, trying to keep her courage up. Maddie was due to return and she didn't want to appear to be entirely helpless, in spite of being just that. She frowned as she waited. Perhaps in the morning she would rouse and this would all turn out to be some elaborate dream that her subconscious had thought up just to startle her. There was a distinct if not sudden sound of something being dragged coming closer to the haven and tensing, Victoria gripped the hem of her school uniform's skirt. Was that Maddie? It had better be...

She came back through with an apologetic smile. "Sorry that took so long. Let's get this unpacked so you can get settled in, alright?" she asked, laying the suitcase down and unzipping it. "Hopefully I have gotten everything you will need for the night, and by tomorrow we should have you somewhere with a proper bed and a door that locks."

[personal profile] waterfield 2018-01-31 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
All her tensing faded when Maddie came back. It was a relief that she was that one at the door after all instead of some strange creep. She couldn't help but to feel a little intimidated at the thought that the door didn't have a lock. It would have to do for the time being and it was only for one night. She could handle it — probably.

"I'm sure you've gotten more than enough to make me comfortable, thank you. A door with a lock is a blessing, I think, I'll be more than happy to be somewhere like that." She smiled.

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-01-31 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
She gave her a warm smile and nodded. "I haven't read these books myself, but they were waiting at the library, so maybe someone pulled them thinking I would like them? They look interesting at least." she said, pulling out the books before pulling out the bedding.

"Do you live at a library, aunt Maddie?" Interesting place to make one's residence if so. It sounded lovely though. She took up the books, turning them over in her hands to read the back. She smiled once again. "I'm sure they're splendid books, I look forward to reading them. Once I've finished, I'll return them to you."

After a moment, she added: "I owe you a lot, aunt Maddie. If I can make it up to you," while she's forced to be in this place if nothing else, "Let me know, please?"

She gave a small laugh and shook her head. "No, but it was on the way from getting the supplies," she lied, easily.

"I will, now. Are you all set and settled in for the night? If so, I'll start making arrangements for something more long term for you."

That made sense! She didn't bother to press it as she had no reason to. She set the books down and nodded to her. Getting settled was a good idea. She wasn't certain how much sleep she would be getting, she felt either too energetic or overtired from all the information to rest. Victoria would try of course, she might even surprise herself and sleep. She helped the set up the bedding and once through, nodded to her aunt.

"I think so, yes." The idea of being here long term just felt horribly permanent. She hoped in that respect that Maddie was wrong and she would go home, soon. "Thank you aunt Maddie."

She wouldn't have found a kiss odd but as Me wasn't aware of all Maddie's particulars, it wasn't very off to her that Maddie might not, either. She was about to lower herself to lay down when she paused and gave Maddie a sheepish look. "Might I have a hug before I rest?" It might be a childish request but it was easy to forget that Victoria, even as a lady from the past, was still just a fourteen year old girl.

"Thank you aunt Maddie," she nodded in response to the kind words, having returned the hug with one of her own — albeit a little tighter than hers. She was still worried but she let it go, lowering herself to sit onto the bedding. The books would serve as a distraction ( she hoped! ) and it wouldn't be that bad. Maddie wouldn't let anything happen to her.

She wasn't wrong. Victoria was probably one of the most ridiculously well behaved young ladies out there. But she still didn't take praise all that easily and blushed at it, casting her glance aside. "How very kind of you to say so, really, I'm just doing what a proper young lady should."

She had to chuckle. "The honesty is appreciated, I assure you." She gave a light wave to signal farewell to her 'aunt' as she left and once alone, felt the quiet starting to unnerve her. Drawing her legs into her chest, Victoria picked up one of the books to try and occupy her mind with.

It was one night.
One.
She could do this.
memories_of_me: (The Patron Saint of the Doctors' Leaving)

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-02-09 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Me would spend half the night finding and reading the appropriate journals, and then the rest of the night preparing. She found a small abandoned house not too far from the diner and fixed it up. She filled the closet with clothes of a sort that fit both her notes and what Victoria was wearing when she arrived. She knew that Victoria would find or be found by one of the Doctors after a little bit, they got into everything, really. But so long as they weren't spotted together, Victoria need never know that the Me that they all hated was her aunt Maddie. She would just have to be very careful on the network, for the foreseeable. But she could do this. She had to do this.

Because some part of her was still the patron saint of the Doctor's leftovers. She was still the person who had to take care of those he left behind, clean up his messes. By the time Victoria learned the truth about Me, and came to hate her as everyone else did, she'd be settled in and well able to take care of herself.

Me considered changing her clothes, then decided against it, Victoria had already seen her this way, changing would be too obvious. She she just swapped to another blouse of the same sort and an ever so slightly longer skirt. She took a breath, and got herself back into character as best she could. Stopping to Bend up some breakfast on a heavy silver tray with a cloche, she then walked through the gate, and headed for her 'niece'. A young woman the Doctor abandoned.

If only Victoria knew — but she didn't. To her, Me was the same person as she always had been: aunt Maddie, a trusted friend of Maggie's, a confidant and a person to rely on. And rely on her she did. Victoria wasn't of the malicious sort though — why people loathed the woman called Me wasn't something she would comprehend. In her eyes, Maddie had been taking care of her even before she had arrived in this strange place. She had been a friend of the family's, Victoria had spent a lot of time with Mrs Harris and her aunt. They were close and she loved her. It would be quite difficult to have that love rot away in the blink of an eye.

Perhaps she had met her match when it came to those who had been with the Doctor hating her. Because while Victoria had adored the Doctor she had something about her that was very different than most of those "abandoned" by him ... she had wanted to leave. It was her choice and she took the escape the moment that it was offered to her. Whether it was the right choice to make or not: she didn't know. But the result was feeling normal again.

She had managed to sleep. The book was on her chest, her breathing was shallow and steady, deep in sleep. It wasn't until the footfalls could be heard that she stirred and blinked the tired from her eyes, sitting up. She gasped as the book hit her lap and breathed a sigh of relief. One night and she had made it spectacularly. Rising to her feet, she smiled to her aunt as she approached. "Thank goodness, aunt Maddie. I'm glad it's you!"
memories_of_me: (Alright I'll give you that one)

Was Victoria the sort to want/have a job?

[personal profile] memories_of_me 2018-02-09 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course, I promised I would be back. And I brought breakfast." She would have to keep Rusty far from Victoria. That... was going to be a challenge. For the first time, though, she was glad that Rusty hadn't taken her up on her offer to stay with her. Still, she would have to find a way to keep the Dalek clear of the girl.

"I hope you like it," she said, having made something that her notes said had been one of Victoria's favorites. "I haven't made this in quite some time, not since I arrived here."

She set the tray on a table, and pulled over a chair. "I found a lovely little place, not far from my diner, where you can stay at nights, and you are welcome to spend your days helping out around the diner, if you wish." She all but deadlocked sealed the door to the Tardis part, so it should be safe enough, so long as Victoria didn't get her hands on a sonic screwdriver. "I can teach you Bending, or if you prefer, you could attend the Bending school. I believe it is currently run by a young man named Jed, though there is also a person by the name of Clef who seems as though he might be a suitable teacher."

she's 14 so at home she was a student but if she has to work here then she'd be fine with it

[personal profile] waterfield 2018-02-09 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It wouldn't be a good idea for her to be anywhere near a Dalek so it was good that Rusty hadn't come along, yes. She glanced to the cloche and smiled. She sat down onto a chair near the table while Maddie pulled up another one and plucked the cover from the dish. It smelled amazing — just how she remembered it.

"It smells amazing, you always have been an excellent cook." She didn't want to seem rude by eating whilst talking but the food had been prepared for her and it would have been rude to hesitate on eating it, too. Manners, they could get in the way of even the simplest tasks. She picked up a fork and began to dig into the meal. In spite of eating, she was listening as well, hanging onto her every word. So, a place had been found after all. Victoria was more than happy to help out with the diner if Maddie would allow it but having not worked much in her short life, she would have to be shown what to do and how to do it.

"I'm more than happy to help out, aunt Maddie. I just need you to show me what to do is all," she smiled though. It wasn't that surprising, was it? Maddie working at a diner. She always had been cooking. "I'm not surprised to find you working with food. It's a good thing of course, you've always been really very good with meals."

Fortunately, Victoria didn't know all that much about the sonic screwdrivers, so she wouldn't be looking into that kind of thing. She did have a healthy dose of curiosity to her but she wasn't going to go somewhere that her aunt told her not to. If she claimed the door to be off-limits, Victoria would respect her wishes. If there was a school, she would be fine with attending it. Jed and Clef, they were names she would have to try and remember. It was a lot to take in at once and she was feeling her chest knotting but she had to do this. She had no choice.

"I can attend school, I don't want to occupy all of your time, especially not if you're busy with a diner." At this point, she was poking her small fork against the bottom of her dish gently. "Although perhaps help if I end up stuck or needing it, that might be helpful?"

no problem. :]
