Newt Scamander | Fantastic Beasts (warning for Crimes of Grindelwald spoilers)
"I've chosen a side." Newt said softly, embracing his brother but the next thing he realized was that he was waking up. Had he even been tired? After everything that happened, Newt reasoned, he must have been, but he'd have never fallen asleep there with his brother and Jacob around to worry about.
Taking a moment, Newt looked over himself, checked for his wand, his case. Content that he was mostly intact- Niffler and Pickett seem to have been missing- he decided that exploring and getting his bearings was probably the best course of action.
"Hello- yes excuse me. Do you have a moment?"
[B - network]
[Newt took a little while to figure this out. Figure it out he did though so here he is, in all of his awkward glory, Hufflepuff scarf wrapped around his neck and all.]
Hello, sorry to bother you all. My name is Newt Scamander, I'm a- ah, I study animals. [Different as this place is, he should still be careful with the Statute of Secrecy.] The more unique the better.
I was hoping to hear about any you all may have encountered. For a book. I've been working on a book about them.

[Link was excited. Finally, an interesting question!]
In Termina there's a fox with three tails called a Keaton. They're pretty nice, even if they do like to tell puzzles and riddles.

A keaton? [He digs through his pockets until he finds a little notebook and a quill, opening up to a clear page and scribbling down a note.] I'm afraid I've never heard of Termina before but that fox does sound interesting.
no subject
Oh--Termina is a world I accidentally ended up in the last time I went to my real home.
Let me see....in Hyrule---and here--we have cuccos! They're kinda like chickens, only super strong, and they swarm people and try to peck them to death when they're threatened.

"Naturally born, experiments, constructs, or descendants of experiments or constructs?"
[The woman asking had a weasel around her neck. The mustalid in question was bright orange, had a sharp teeth that looked more at home on a shark than on a small mammal, brass bolts in its neck, and, of course, six legs.]
[The creatures paws were resting on the trilobite design locket she wore tight to her throat. On her head clinging to her reddish hair, was what looked like someone had cast some sort of life spell on a pocket watch. Its face was replaced by a single eye that was watching intently, and it had small little hands and feet at the end of limbs that were just as small.]
The woman herself had large nearly frameless glasses that made her green eyes seem more prominent, and a bit of oil on her face.]

Ah- well, I had intended naturally born. Things you find in nature, in case I write another book here. Prepare folks for them.
[Although he is just a bit curious about that critter on her shoulders. Something tells him though that whatever it is, it isn't a natural creature. Not something her would have put into Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.]
no subject
"Ah. I've already written a book on this guy and the rest of his species, and am rewriting it here. As for purely natural creatures on my world...." [she considered.] "Not sure how you'd define them. I mean, how far back do you go before you give up on trying to figure out if a creature evolved that way naturally or a Spark decided to help them along the way? I mean Wasp Eaters...." [she stroked the weasel's head] "breed. Not in the wild, but that is just because they are hunted there. But they could. Minimoths breed freely, though as they mostly live in sewers, not sure you would call that nature. And then there are the hundreds of breeds of snails. How would you sort those that evolved on their own and those who had help generations back?"

"Did you just arrive here, sir?"

"Wonderful! I'm sorry, I do hope I'm not keeping you from anything. Ah, but you're right. I am new. I was hoping for a bit of insight from... well, anyone."

"Everyone here has been in your shoes before. And the city is fairly quiet at the moment, so most residents would be happy to help you."
She gave a shallow curtsy. "And the city is as good a subject to start with as any. Welcome to Nautilus, the city between the worlds."

When she heard the question, the young girl jumped a mile, spinning. One hand went behind her back as if to draw some sort of weapon, but as soon as she got a look at him, her hand came to her chest instead, as she panted with reaction. "You scared the skin off of me!"
She was of Hogwarts age, on the younger end, but she didn't look much like a Hogwarts student in her sleeveless blue and gold dress, with the huge earrings, the braided tails hanging off of the large rings that dangled from her ears.
Panting a bit, she made like she was going to lean on a walking stick with her other hand, but as there was nothing there, she stumbled. If he didn't catch her, she would catch herself, but there was very much that moment of whoa, with all expected sound effects.

"I should certainly hope I didn't. I think you might need that." Newt says lightly, trying to smile as warmly as he might for his creatures. They were still easier to be around than people but he really had no choice now.
"I do apologize though. I didn't mean to startle. I just hoped I might learn a bit more from someone who has been here longer than me." Which wasn't really a hard thing to do. Most anyone could say they'd been here longer.
no subject
She winced a bit at the apology and rubbed the back of her head. "I should have been paying more attention. But I don't think I am who you're looking for. I just woke up here and am looking for my Master and Gooligan. I'd been with them just a few minutes ago." If that.
"I wonder if this place is like Bisteam...."

A. Since you've played with Kaylin, okay to skip the whole description?
But she took a breath and forced her face into a professional mask. "Let me guess, new here?"
The small flygon looked up from her hair, made a small "gon" then went back to eating her hair.
sure <3
"Y-yes, actually. I apologize, but I thought talking to other people might make it easier to find my bearings. Even New York felt easier." Except not really, he had Jacob helping him. And Tina dragging him around. And Niffler just leading him on a couple chases. And others.

A. sorry, she's intentionally cold.
Her hair was in a tight french braid that ended in a black and silver scrunchie, and despite the cold she wore no coat. She set her shovel aside at his question, and crossed her arms. "No. I do not.
it's all good <3
"Ah." He cleared his throat, managing a polite little smile. "I do apologize, I don't mean to interrupt. I've just arrived and had hoped to learn a bit more."
:D
poor Rose!
Hey, according to Me, she totally deserves it.
Newt will disagree when he finds out he's been bamboozled
Lol. Well at least this gets a you a thread with Gabriel?

But for all he looked to be the age of a first year.... what first year ever moved about on a floating spit of ground, complete with grass, surrounded by a pastel coloured magical sphere? He was floating a good foot off the ground, and adjusted to be at eye level as he drew close. He leaned on his staff - which was taller than he was - and nodded. "Yes. Of course. I presume you are new?" His smile was warm and welcoming, he looked like a child but... he did not sound like one. And his magic certainly was not that of a child.

So Newt was going to make a concerted effort not to assume this boy was magical or otherwise. If it came up, fantastic. It would save him a bit of trouble and allow him to be a little more open in the future. At least with one person.
"I am, yes." Not a child then. Okay. Odd but not the oddest thing he's ever been faced with. "I hope I'm not disturbing anything. I thought it best to talk with someone else to learn a bit."

Hello, Newt.

Dumbledore. [At least one person he unquestionably doesn't have to hide anything from.] I had no idea I'd run into anyone I know here.

It must have been a spectacular bear. [He grins, no harm in following this along. After all, maybe it wasn't an ordinary bear. He can't judge.]
